Just got some new stuff from Taha last night so I wanted to share some very early preliminary impressions.
L'essentiel Cambodgien: Amber colored oil. At first sniff I thought this is another run of the mill Cambodi fruity scent. But boy does that initial note change. This turns into a very floral, narcotic, blooming, almost perfume like scent. I would swear this was a Pursat oud on occasion. If you like Oud Yusuf, you will also love this one. It is and incredible bang for the buck.
Tokusen Tai: I only gave this the initial sniff and it is definitely an Oud profile I have never experienced before. Incense sticks gently smoldering is the initial scent, then some sweet spices, and then more wood. If you are looking for something unique to your collection, DO NOT miss out on this one.
Vietnam Special K: So to be fair, this oil is still young and needs several more months of curing according to Taha. The first notes are a complete double take. Did Taha send Ceylon No 1 with the wrong label? You get the incredible narcotic honey notes. After about 5-10 minutes the oils begins a Kafkaseque metamorphosis and is becomes all Vietnam with a gorgeous green kinam aroma. On the sweeter side of green, at least for the time being. This one is the real deal. Clearly needs a little more time to mature but even now it is fantastic. For me Vietnamese Oud is the Holy Grail and this one does not disappoint.
Ambrosia: I was fortunate to get a sample of this oil. I thing think this is microcarpa from Aceh. That first sniff, this is so close to the Sultans Succor in style, I almost thought I was having a senior moment and put the wrong oil on. After a few seconds it is obvious this is something different. The style is the same as the succor and would describe it as 'bright darkness'. The ambrosia then gets sweeter and has this heavenly sweet wood drydown. Last a LOOOONG time. It is no accident I am having Taha save me a full bottle.
