Here it is - if you had to pick, would you keep your wood collection or your oil collection? I think we can all agree this would be a terribly unhappy thing to have to choose - and fortunately we don't have to.. But just for fun, which would it be?

Wow, I'm far more torn about it - I think I would go with woods myself if I had to pick - what a terrible decision to have to make though!

How are the Seijudo sessions coming along?
I revisited both of the ones I have yesterday before riyaaz. Mystifying! Does an oil exist that captures that deep dark smell? Want.

sooooo goood. but also having tons of fun with the more aromatic and concocted yamadamatsu sticks. and yes there is an oil and is called kyara ltd 2.0. even the dry down of borneo diesel and port moresbey have that same note to my nose. but none to this date has been as clear, as loud, as evident and as glorious as kyara ltd 2.0 when it comes to capturing the scent of kinam and kinamic wood on higher heat. scent of such grade of wood on low heat is prettier and is more easy to understand but there is a case for its high heat smoking scent too. more of an experience rather than just a great scent.

I’m not sure I can recall that note in Port Moresby or Borneo Diesel, but I can imagine it in KLTD 2.0. I’ll need about .3grams to study it properly in various scenarios; zero gravity, sleepless nights, inhaler, post workout etc

Lol - zero gravity + kyara LTD inhaler - sounds like some sort of technologically advanced utopia!

Incense sure is great - in fact I was collecting fine Japanese and Tibetan incenses well before I discovered agarwood.. I would pick either the agarwood or the oud oil over my incense collection though, if it came down to it..

Btw, any recommendation of Japanese incenses you like?

For Tibetan I highly highly highly recommend checking out the Dzogchen Monastery's "Lotus ground" incense.. Especially if you've never had Tibetan incense - and if you like barnyard type scents, this one you will love.. There's a rich earthy spirituality in the finer Tibetan incenses.. "Holy Land" is really good also..

For me as well, @5MeO . Before attar, and oud was the land of incense for me.
Once I graduated from Indian "outhouse napalm" sticks to Japanese incense it was game over. Just to be fair, I did eventually find a few quality Indian sticks from cottage producers that did for me than just frighten mosquitos away. I have a few sticks of the original Holy Land formula left, and it is a beauty.
The Dzogchen Monastery incense you speak of, I haven't tried, but I see Beth over at Essence of the Ages has some on sale right now.

I love good Tibetan incense!

As for Japanese incense, I can surely recommend some favourites.
Which styles/houses do you like?

Hahaha brother, if only there was such a thing as being an Oud wood artisan, or could there be? ;) What do you personally prefer?
Navigating wood can get much trickier than navigating oil.... Sourcing real high-grade wood can be a daunting task, especially if finances are a concern. I guess if I'd focused on woods the way I have on oils over the years, I'd have a very different kind of collection now. But surely, whatever has happened was for the best.

I much prefer oil to wood. It's like taking the tree and putting its soul into a little bottle which you can keep in your pocket and revisit anywhere. Even when you're 40,000 feet above ground in the dead of night, and everyone around you is asleep. You can drink the oil, use it for aromatherapy, Chinese medicine, etc. Whereas the wood is just for burning. The only 'art' related to it is the identification and grading.

There is one exception to this preference of mine, and it is if the wood is kinam. In that case, I'd take the wood over oil any day. :)
