Sultan musk attar

Finally got the chance to try the genius Sultan Musk Attar by brother Ensar

I smell undertones of Borneo Zen kind of jasmine which comes in the top notes-

After that- it deviates a lot in the dry down

I smell jasmine, cumin, possibly a touch of opoponax? And/or orris?

Honeyed jasmine with civetty touch is incredible- sillage is immense and drydown is beautiful.

Tonight i will try Hajar Aswad

And tommorow it will be Thai Tabac

Now i can start to imagine Ensar Oud 2 Perfume/ :)

Went with Purple Kinam today, for me opens with some amazing purple, citrus and rose. The kinam is definitely there and is awesome. Very uplifting and energetic oil for me.

I also can't stop taking small swipes of Oud Ahmad. It was always a bit of an enigma to me. It didn't fit neatly into a particular class for me. At first the "deer musk" was unmistakable. Then that deep medicinal redness, reminiscent of the very best Cambodi's. Then the massive sinking-grade resin kick, ala Sultani or Royale 1985 or Kannan Koh. But now I've been tasked to listen much more closely, to listen for those kinam notes.
Retrieving an old but gold of a post. I am looking forward to kannan koh and to after experience this other facet of PK that I haven’t seen yet. Even the red medicinal note you speak of took me 7-8 wears or more in to discover. A note that connects the dots between this Oud Ahmad And twr

That's one of the amazing things about good oud, each wearing it unveils a little more of itself. Love it.

Happy Jummah / Friday everyone!
2 double espressos and 2 swipes of Kinamatan for this crisp autumn morning before I head out into the sunshine. Shockingly beautiful green vapours from the magic forest bottled up inside that V-Vial. That delicious buzz, and I don’t mean the coffee......

Apologies for being away these days, life is so busy at the moment.

Laos 95 / Agarwood Assam: Scent profile, to me, is that of a superbly aged Malaccensis or Indonesian. Very green, jungly, "resin-y" (I hate using "resin" because I don't actually know what that means). Vintage/Antique profile is definitely there. My only frame of reference are EO oils - so to me this is as if Archinam were to turn a shade darker and two shades sweeter/syrup-y (comparing scent, not quality)

Swiped my one and only swipe of EO Sultan Abdul Hamit. Nice big swipe though. Thanks to a cool ouddict member.

The NG dominates the opening with the same beauty it displays in Sultan Afnan, with an added airiness it displays in People’s Ceylon. The Borneo slowly but seamlessly joins the perfume but never sticks out or turns too golden.
The beauty of the NG stays constant for quite some time, not turning dark or incensy.
The fade in aroma is slow and long, providing hours of enjoyment.

Got me a teeny tiny bit on route. :)

Oud of day was yusuf. Long time since I wore it. Actually quite enjoyed the opening and progression. Drydown stage not as much.

The main oud today was al Shareef rubaie. A close study today revealed many things:

Chocolate chili pepper fudge note like that of hindi agarwood on high heat but not quite charcoal heat.

That same classic dried rose and well worn leather signature note of ASO but today it came across as more integrated and beautiful. The leather note is that of a couch in a Havana cigar lounge.

Some bitter green fuzzy notes one finds in archipelago, Sumatra oud. I get fern lots of it too underneath. Lovely.

A red brown malay medicinal note like that of twr is also at play here. Even the camphor notes of oils like tw95. Pushing the complexity to levels that not many oils can achieve. I always knew that but I am actually particularly enjoying these notes on this fine evening.

Lastly maybe is the power of suggestion and knowing the kinam/Vietnam run before this oil was made, but I never really quite saw it or felt it in this oil. On this evening though once or twice I saw flashes of it until some hours later when I had a close encounter with the beast.

This is one remarkable oil and an example of a very successful synergistic blend of various regions. In the past the dark brown roasted sweet leather element was dominating for me and out of balance but tonight everything is on.

Swiped a bit of Hudhayl last night by ASO, very minimal barn Hindi. Brilliant. Can't say I'm upset it didn't sell. Underrated oil IMO, or at least not one talked about much.
