Hi all
Perhaps we can follow up with a “Vote” thread but for now which of these (others) as a group (read: collectively) you find your most desirable?

I csn go first with your permission, to show an example of what I have in mind. Here we go:

Groups:
EO: sultan series, kinam series, Kyara series, senkoh series, muana series, oud royale series, kyen series...

AA: gen 3?, gen 4? Special k series? Royal series?

IO: imperial series?

ASO: the co distillation oils, the sake-name no. Series?
...

Pls feel free to pm me or add other distillers works put loosely in certain categories below this post. I am not that familiar with works of vendors outside the above 4. Too limited number of samples to go off of.

My answer:
For me, my journey into artisanal Oud started 16 months ago and if asked then my answer would be gen 3/senkoh. Short lived love affair though. As a category I mean. Individual oils from it (one from a group of many) are still in my top 10 even top 7 list. Anyways, Then fairly quickly I went into a whole kinam/special k love affair period. It lasted a good 3-6 months. But now, since trying sultan Ahmet the first time 8-9 months ago, the sultan series has since been the highest category for me as I just can get enough of them. Is like the house of creed signature present in all their creations. Like bmw grill in front of all their cars. The Porsche rear end and lights... that signature.

Strong honourable mentions go to many oils falling outside of this category, but these oils are individual success stories, vs sultan series being a proven Uber successful franchise with serious track records. Celtics. Lakers. Juventus. Patriots. Oilers...

Sultan Ahmet, mustafa, suleyman, salahuddin and even the entry level Abdus selam an oil I own lots of (in my world lots) are all bombs. Soon enough I’ll be able to say a few words on beyazit and Abdul Hamit.

We Will see how long this lovesffair will last and what else may be around the corner. I suspect I may fall hard for vintage oils as a category think: Ahmad, twr, sultani 90, Hainan 05, kambodi 76, few others from other distillers but I don’t recall their actual ages to see if they truly belong in this vintage category or not. Like rubaie by ASO’s scent totally belongs here but age wise is a young oil and texture or quality of the fumes are also not vintage. It has some more smoothing work to do.

I should edit and add that even people’s sultan was remarkable while it lasted and hit way above its weight. It too had the classic sultan signature.

Stay tuned in for Abdul Hamit and beyazit impression share hopefully sometime next week.

I love to hear from rest of you.

come on guys, don't leave me hanging here solo. share your thoughts and perhaps a similar journey you have had yourself. lets spread the joy and share our journeys.

@MzM15 , @Arsalan @Simla House @bhanny ....
Still early in my oud journey bro...forget groups or series, im still establishing regions! :D

Although so far, as a “group” favourites are the three aged ones i have from EO - TWR, TW95 and OR 85...
enjoyed the sample of Sultani ’90 as well, however didn’t get a bottle...liked the opening but to me, it was too leathery on drydown...

Yet to try any Gen 3 or Sultan series...

Very interesting question. For me personally. In no particular order. I think not anyways.

1. Kynam/Kyara/Vietnam. Kynam No1 changed my oud world. Ya Chuan, Nha Trang, Kyara LTD v2, Hong Kong Kinam, Yunnan Kinam, etc. My peace makers, my soul-stirrers. Wish I was still purchasing when Taha and others made their Vietnamese oils.
2. Sultans. Wow. The overall feel of these, the depth, the vibrancy. Drop dead gorgeous.
My happy oils, my trance-inducers.
3. Raw Dark Classics. Sultani, Kannan Koh, OR1, OR2, Ahmad, Berkilau, Qi Nam Thai, Kambodi 1976. Raw and ancient. My grounding oils.
4. Indians. Kyara d’Assam, Nuh, Isa, Hudhayl, Chugoku, Chamkeila. My spirit oils, my strength oils.
5. Ethereals. Borneo 3000, 50k, Kalbar No1, Ceylon No1. My transcendent oils, lifting, airy.
6. Decadents. Brunei Kinam, Diesel, Kyara de Kalbar, Purple Kinam. Regal, royal, rich, draped in luscious velvet.

I’m sure I missed some.

Oooh the decedents. The ethereal. All really. So much beauty. So much variety. Good times.
