wow wow wow. a knock out oil. head to toe dressed in pure beauty and excitement. so much oomph. mind altering. consciousness altering oud of tremendous magical powers. this is not oud. is not of this world. those who have tried purple kinam or sultan mustafa or ahmet would know what i mean. i feel those qualities are dialed up here and while it doesn't have the depth of ahmet, it makes up for it with a stunning opening visual performance.

best part, woke up in the morning and more than traces of it was still discernable. long lasting oud.

Super quick off vial only impressions of some Ensar Oud legends procured via the one of a kind @bhanny

Sultan Abdul Hamit (NG borneo co distill)
Sultan it is. Right off the bat no doubt about it. If there was ever one oil that smells like walking with resin rich borneo wood bubbling under your skin, this is it. Elements of Aroha and duhl q here. Temp curve? Other technique before distilling? Doesn’t matter. That’s what the scent is. A green jungly oceanic yet ethereal oil with a lightly smoky caramleized toasted Woody note. I bet the drydown is nuts. Another day

Sultan beyazit (NG only)
Another clearly sultan style oil. Same signature of all other sultan oils. I am getting tons of floral and tropical fruits here. That sweet sour tropical fruit note mixed with salty oceanic virgin island vibe. High pitched. If I didn’t know origin I would have thought perhaps a 5% walla in there.

Kannan koh
It shares the same dna as Ahmad, even twr and yes hints of purple kinam. This is one bad ass old school oil. I will cherish its fumes. Even just off the vial and without ever wearing it, I get tons of ooomph and pleasure from it. Words don’t fit. When we hear Oud is gone. Oud is thing of past. It is oud like this that vendors mean. So much heart. What a base. Deep deep deep. I bet even mustard grain size wear will be enough to deliver a knock out punch. A wow oil for seasoned wearers but I think even newbies will fall off their chairs.

Kambodi 76
Take kinam rouge mr nhek and basically that narcotic medicinal tobacco dressed all in RED and add actual kinam to it. Mineral rich, Mother Earth, spiced cherry and kinam laced Shisha tobacco leaves. An oil to study. A philosophers oil. Very special.

Best for last
Kynam emerald
I found this oil spoke to me the most. Yes. More than all above. I am floored by its complexity and beauty. A rare breed oil. @Ensar pls share as much as you can about this. I wana know everything. The wood. The region. The grade. The distillation. Aging. Your own read on it. This is not from this earth.

Immediately I see port moresbey. Other oils may come close to PM but to match it, this may be only oil to date. PM with a more resin and ancient feel. I don’t get any malay notes other than the behavior and the energy it emits. I need to wear this one again and again and figure out its secrets. Off vial I don’t get ambergris or beached whale or really anything that would be more than subtle oceanic note. Perhaps it opens up on skin to reveal that.

So much so that wore it an hour after i wrote above. A subtle flash of purple kinam came and gone a couple times. Then a spicier and touch sweeter port moresbey note settled. Elements of archinam felt. The green here is not one or two or three but many many shades darker than Papuan and most New Guinea oils. The drydown note is Tigerwood in its quality. Most unique malay yet and I really wana know how much of it is method vs raw material. And if mostly result of raw material how one we haven’t seen any other malay like it. I mean kannan koh is somewhat unique but still bring to mind twr and Ahmad. @Ensar please enlighten us.

And before I forget from your and phil’s Notes I was expecting a far saltier and more funky (referenced to beached whale or ambergris ) but I don’t get it. I see sea spray but I know many wallas that are saltier and more oceanic. Has the oil settled since then or my nose not detecting it. Or at least not detecting it yet. I doubt it cause I am super sensitive on this note and actually dig it but not enough of it here to register for me.

Yeah. Recall Phil having a fairly intense reaction. Mine more of a tranquil crystalline sea, with a chunk of Kynam floating in it that is.

Casual musings on a bunch of oud I have in sample vials:

Back to blind testing last few nights for fun and to keep the senses sharp.

Some discoveries or otherwise fleets of thoughts that came to me during this eve’s 20 randomly picked mixed vial blind test.

Imperial oud konnaung and new imperial burma are both a note I have only ever smelled In these two IO oils. No other burma. No other vendor. A bitter yet soft yellow fruit note yet medicinal and indochinese in dna

—————

Oud zach is far more barnier now than a year or so ago. Yet along oud shuayb is distinctly horsy. No sheep or cows or goats here. It is a distinct horse sadalleather note. Despite the beauty and complexity is far too much for me to actually wear and roll in it

——————-
Duhl q has a sticky Yusuf fruit note in it that hadn’t registered for me to this potency extent to date.

————-

Sultan Abdül Hamit is the single most successful “smoky” “oud chip bubbling under your skin” oud. I must say I am not a fan of this genre. It masks the beauty of those precious oleoresin. Some will rightfully disagree and I agree to disagree. My issue is a personal one.

Anyways the message is I will gladly andfrequently wear Abdül Hamit for you.

Oils in genre I have tried: Aroha, two difreleases of duhl q, philipina 2, kencana 3, sigyria walla by IO.

Most successful to my liking was philipina 2 and sigyria. Both after few months at least of release date though and few airings.

ASO layth
Has a good whack of what I associate with trat agarwood for a cambodi. Of course are present those cambodi notes. Think yusuf jsl adams thai I forget the name, tony Bolton’s....

Taha has a cambodi too that is dressed as trat: Koh kood. A cambodi vacationing in Thailand.

—————-

Pursat 05 and more recent one 12? Are super psychoactive. Big time psychedelic notes. Pursat 05 has a purple blue scent to it. Iris crossed with violet.

Brain interrupts to send me a message:
Rasoul, cambodis are not your thing. Move on for now revisit in 6 months or later.

——————
One last impression I got for the second time in a while: EO port moresbey is a damn fine oil belonging in a subset of legends of the legends category. Is not just a great but a great if greats. It smells to me what one envisions of new funnies in ones eyes mind.

The presentation of the notes in this oil. Ahhhh so round and polite. Aged notes. Young notes. All in line performing like a grand symphony. Those kinamic bitter tingling notes don’t exactly suck either. Brilliant stuff. I wish I had more than what I began with originally 0.3.

hey @Rasoul S just a few questions...

Oud zach is far more barnier now than a year or so ago
Can an oil that is already aged 10 years become "far more barnier" within the span of a year or so? Or are you saying that your recollection of it differs significantly from what you experienced last night? My experience with Zach has been fairly constant...

Oils in genre I have tried: Aroha, two difreleases of duhl q, philipina 2, kencana 3, sigyria walla by IO
Are you really comparing Sigyria to Aroha and Duhl Q? I would have never put them in the same boat. Sigyria, to me, is completely devoid of harsh smoke. Incense? Yes, but not straight up smoke...

Just curious, that's all. I figured I'd ask questions for a change instead of passively observing...
Thank you, sir.

I share your aversion to smoke. I love it in Abdul Hamit however. It just fits amazing with the rest of the oil. And Port Moresby. There ain't much better!

For me today, ASO Al Ceeni. Kinamish bitters with sweetened honey base. For me anyways!

Hi Philip
Re zach: it was a 0.3 purchase and now at 0.1 is noticeably barnier. In wine or beer this is easy to explain. The bacteria like brett or acetic bacteria will multiply and gain strength when exposed to more air.
Other possible explanation could be other volatile top notes have receded and vaporized so the barn in the opening is more notIcable.

Re smoky oils, true sigyria is not quite as smoky, likely 1/3 less than others but for someone who is hypersensitive to it, it actually works better. At the end none really call to me other than once or twice a year wear.

Yup. Distinct green oil Kyara note immediately behind that peanut oil, fresh unearthed turnip or yellow beet note.

TWR is awesome! Most of the summer Green Papua was day time & TWR for evenings or cool days...glad I got back ups or wouldn’t have properly swiped!
I am usually against the idea of back ups because practicing impermanence allows to try more oils. New oils. New discoveries. Yet a few ouds we are likely not to see again. Maybe ever. And sooner than later. Twr is back up worthy.
