kinam rouge was my wear as well. it came across as a hypothetical pursat red Cambodi (minus the unique cambodi terpy notes) morphed into a Vietnamese bittersweet cooling while retaining its red and only gaining a bit of the green. always an engaging oil and one that is hard to nail down in a blind test. a shapeshifter.
Bro this is my first Vietnamese Oil so still getting used to it... it's super complex oil

the original borneo diesel this morning:
the opening is all oriscent signature. it is only after 20-30 minutes that the malinau character takes hold and wont let go. whats there not to love. terrific oil.

last night before bed was:
the peacock's feather aka rainbow oud: nashila. what a multifacted and pretty hindi. such a joy to wear. it is starting to have the notes get more compacted and deeper. yummmm

yesterday mid day a tiny swipe of Oriscent Jayapula. i still dont know the exact type of wood used but to my nose the scent is very much that of Irian noir, the violet scented, deep dark purple verging on black mixed with that maroke quality and mixed with strong bitter root veg opening. the oriscent signature is there but not as in your face as lets say with borneo diesel or even papuya.

coming up next is papuamantan. it has been on my desk and starring at me straight. droooool.

Today's swipe was EO Hainan 05. While in the beginning it seemed light, this is still here 8 hours later. I love the complexity. I never get the blue cheese mentioned by Kafkaesque, this one is never animalic or barnyardish. I wonder if we talk about the same oud, same batch etc. Together with Suriranka Naya this one is one of the more refined I own, always a delight and never 'too much'.

for what is worth there is definitely a funk in hainan 05 (to my nose). not fecal, not barnyard, but a certain note that if i have to use an umbrella term for i would call: animalic; raw musk kinda quality. i dont see blue cheese in it either. blue cheese is in nhek 76 while is mostly feta cheese note in many of the hindis.

The oil which showed me how to love sinensis. This is what legends are made of. Timeless! Everybody should have at least a 0.3g sample of this even if you're not a fan of Chinese oils.

Got to agree its definitely not barnyard or blue cheese or fecal ... but for my nose I get a bit of leather note which is pretty pleasing

Beautiful! Would you be able to recommend other oils with similar vibes?
From the current market? No, I do not see anything remotely similar to Hainan 05.
If you liked Hainan 05, you will like Yunnan Exclusive (EO) if you can score some. It's less dainty than H05, and has a stronger boozy, salty, dirty opening. It's also aged 14 years, and it's great. My favorite, China Sayang (EO), is quite different that the two mentioned, but still has that initial funk. Superbly medicinal, orange zest, pine, which gives way to a wonderfully sour, woody drydown (going off memory here). A piercing, pristine oil :eek::eek: Gosh, CS is just amazing. I refuse to open my bottle. I'll probably start applying in 20 years or something.

Thank you for sharing this. They both sound like they're right up my alley. I'll certainly look for some, they're not easy to get, are they?

Something tells me you have a better shot of landing some Yunnan Exclusive if you privately inquire. China Sayang has been gone for a while. Alternatively, keep an eye out for it during Ramadan and/or Boxing Day sales.

Issue bro with the oils mentioned above they are all sold out on EO website and I seriously doubt there are any available for private sale :(
