Wearing one hell of an oud tonight. Best I have had from agar aura. Royal malinau. Is the very marrow of oud. Terrific. Soul stirring. World stops. Words become meaningless. I come out of my body and observe the world from a birds eye view. Absolutely a show stopper.

Good news is his new royal maluku seems to promise the same development and future. Fingers crossed.

Ps since royal malinau is all gone the best malinau I have tried that IS available is white kinam from Ensar. I haven’t worn it in a while or side by side but from memory that unapologetic malinau greatness is on display in both oils. B50k from Ensar obviously captures that note too but humbly speaking boy white kinam and royal malinau go deeper.
I can see it's not for nothing that Taha includes RM as one of his top most.

not so fast brother. this oil is not even ready yet. there will be condensing of the notes stage and the still notes still need to blow off, while also those sharp high toned "distracting" volatiles need to blow off/get eaten by rest of the oil.

i wore royal maluku this morning. the opening is terpenes to the max like heavy metal. like sniffing glue or gasoline, it gets you light-headed instantly. then comes the fish skin/fish oil note that is distracting and un-pleasant (still note) that i have seen time and time again and happy to know it will blow off and wont be here soon enough.
then the magic comes: iris absolute, dollops upon dollops of orris butter and gentle oceanic blue.
there comes the soap phase 2 hours in that i am not crazy about, BUT so much goodness and purple floral notes, wood and oudy marrow notes to keep me interested.
i think the best days for this oil are 2-3 months out. maybe even a bit more.

dollar for dollar, malaya is where its at. easily under priced for what it delivered. royal maluku is NOT overpriced, is just a unique oil, unique note that will make sense in the eye of beholder, while i think malaya is more catch all and will have more people oooooh, aaaaah, wowwwwww. if royal maluku develops and settles into what i anticipate, it will become a stronger contender yet.

nonetheless, both are terrific oils that should settle into their own in few months time and be in the company some of tahas best oils

Gentlemen, Any bets on it actually hitting the store?

If it does, I bet it lasts moments before it’s gone!

Probably best to send an email inquiry to AA as RM most likely an unreleased oil. It’s an Aquilaria Beringin oil.
I just peeked in again on Melaya over the weekend and discovered the oil had gained considerable power so it’s probably futher along the developmental curve than RM at the moment. I will say I like what I’m smelling from both oils so far but expect both to be mature by about mid-April.

I’m hoping the Malaya has a bit more “heft” to it...that was my only “concern” with Kayu...seemed a bit light and pretty for my personal tastes. Any thoughts?

definitely more heft to malaya. but since taha isnt into aging oils, distills differently and avoids any of the lipids, waxes, etc. the oils are not going to ever be BIG. in my words and my experience that is.

Syd, let's use the automobile analogy. Kayu Melayu is also still under development, more coming but it's an entry level oil. It's like the Toyota Yaris. You get the Toyota quality of build and badge but the vehicle is in a certain class level with other vehicles and is lacking in features compared to the Camry (Malaya) or the Lexus GX (Royal Maluku). Scent profile aside, there is a class (grade), price and quality gradient here. The grade/ quality difference between KM and Malaya I perceive to be greater than the difference between Malaya and Royal Maluku. When all is said and done and the 3 oils have integrated (again scent profile aside) RM should be superior to Malaya and vastly superior to KM. There's a video at AA blog of the RM incense grade woods being ground up for the soup pot. It sounds like Taha had a moment of madness and made a loony decision to sacrifice woods that had more value to be sold as heating woods than to be made into oil. The wood is reported to be from old growth Seram/ Ceram grandma trees. I was able to smell some of this heated wood and it appealed to me a lot.
I haven't been around oud oil for very long, but I realize already opportunities don't get much better than this to enjoy an oil of this caliber--unless the Aquilaria Beringan profile of this G3 (trying to stay true to heated wood aroma) doesn't appeal. I'll be dumbfounded if this oil is not a benchmark oil (to better understand grade/ quality) for me in the same way some of EO's oils are like Nha Trang, Purple Kinam and others for example. Don't give up on Kayu Melayu! Even if it doesn't turn into a beast, I like having some enjoyable lower cost swipes to enjoy and I suspect you and others might too.
