What's on your burner today?

Package from EO was collected today from DHL at lunch time. A few slivers of Port Moresby Privee were on my heater first think this evening. This is New Guinea Gyrinops. I'm not able to decipher the scent profile just yet other than to say I like it a lot. After a brief period of lower temperature heating I turned up the voltage high briefly and then when the first wisps of smoke appeared I dialed down to a moderate voltage to enjoy the light smoke and aroma. Was able to repeat the process about 4x. Plenty of bubbling resin and oil in this fine wood. Has anyone else tried it? Ensar commented that it wasn't easy to pull this out of his stash to offer for sale. Lol. I'm glad he did. :)

Yes. Is the single most potent, jam packed png wood to date. The very spirit of the forest. Forest floor. Thick canopy. Humid. Yet cool

Red baram for me. My top 3 sourced wood from Ensar Oud. An unreal scent. A Borneo with profile of malinau but on steroids. But it also has Central Kalimantan open k it scent quality and super high pitched. Think kinamantan the oil met b50k met b3k. Add a dash more of baking spice on it and baaaam!

ASO - 5 Rivers Al Maleki Hindi

First impression:

1. While I sniffed the stick I felt I'm really sniffing a Hindi oil off a vial [emoji7].. typical Hindi barnyard welcome.
2. The lack of binders other ingredients makes these sticks brittle. (Gotta handle with care)
3. Quality wise this stick is right up there.
4. The only other stick I have from India is Processed Assam by Dr Incense. This stick is way above that in material and scent profile of that region.
5. With using sticks from Vietnam, Cambodia, Tarakan, Malinau suddenly such a strong Hindi Scent profile I think I'll have to get use to this for a incense session.
6. I burnt about 3 inches of the stick at about 1200pm now its 0630am next day I can clearly see the presence of the scent in my room. It's a beast on strength.

A job welldone ASO

Here is the skinny on someone I am surprised we havent read much about.

Tonight was spending an hour with A bunch of Dr incense sticks

Most are just acceptable to good. One letdown: cambodi. Smells pretty much of very generic agarwood. No sense of place.

Two of his though stand out for me:
Assam. which actually has that true to kind, meet expectation, carrying typicity and dash of oomph. And the other is hoi an. Actually very legit stick. Regardless if the material used was post distillate or partial or processed this or that way. Tarakan would be a soft 3rd spot.

Note: his stuff imho based on 9 samples of all recent past 9 months is certainly a whole two-three tiers below kz, wsg, a good 5 Japanese houses... packaging is fantastic. Beyond actually. Prices are high to pretty high.

Conclusion:
I for one am not buying anymore of his sticks. His raw material though is legit. They have all matched Kz offerings, best of Ensar’s, taha, IO, ASO.... but pricy. I remain a buyer but very very selective.

Baaaam. Doing what this forum should be doing. Honest sincere, consumer advocacy in mind first, and when need to be critical, we’ll be critical kinda forum. Now is your turn. Let’s see what you guys got. Spill the beans on quality and different offerings. Share that secret despite it hurting you financially in reselling that oil. Screw self interest. Give to the oud community. You (me) we all have taken a lot from online forums. Time to give back.

Great write up Rasoul.
Honest view of what you felt.

I honestly have a different view about my Ranking of Dr Incense sticks.

1. Tarakan with Kynam
2. Processed Tarakan
3. Hoi - An
4. Assam
5. Pureland
6. Malaysia

His raw material like you rightly said is legit and I can also vouch for them for being close to KZ raw material.

Will I still buy his sticks?

I'll be selective to be honest on the sticks. I've always been unlucky to get hold of KZ sticks. So I dont have a benchmark to judge.

Price points is high to very high rightly mentioned by you. But what I know about this guy is he does this every month for passion while KZ and other vendors wait patiently to get it right or the price right.

Feedback to him could be to reduce his offerings to once a quarter to work on price and quality on the sticks.

While we are at Dr Incense I just tried his latest offering Sinking Malinau

What can I say the Oud content is so high the stick doesnt stay lit. I had to break it and enjoy it on low heat.

The experience was heavenly [emoji7]... the incense is so true to the region even at room temp.

That’s great. Nothing is all black or white. I too have enjoyed some of his creation while others not so much.

Ceram tasbih
I was tad skeptical. Not of Ensar but on how much better could this be compared to the regular ceram offer or the sink version.

I mean the regular ceram was already sooooooo beautiful with its delicate buttery orris note, gentle subdued purple flowers and its dreamy feel and texture.

The sink version took that same note but dialed it up a few notches and touch of iris absolute and more pronounced orris butter note joined the party.

The ceram king tasbih is a major departure. It is plenty spicy and super floral. Major perfume notes with even a few specks of dust on the heater. A wow oil. 0.1 gram of it has more ooomph and wow in it than putting a 3 gram piece of regular offer on the heater.

Consider me a super happy buyer of 10 grams. Despite my open to sharing and gifting nature, I can’t see myself parting with more than 1 gram of this wood at most. Ceram tasbih right out of the gate has joined my top 5 wood of all time:
Green oil kyara
Vietnam red kinam
Fused red soil
Yunnan 91

On the burner tonight are three spectacular wood offerings from Ensar this year: ceram tasbih, Royal maluku(red resin ) and royal jaya.

One better than the other. All outstanding. All offering more than their ask. All are collectors collector items and will fit the top 5 or at least top10 best Evers.

Hands down. Not even close or can be touched for a mile. Ensar oud has been 2019s best supplier of agarwood.

As for the oils, I think is safe to say the number 1 spot is holding on strong. Although honorable mentions agar aura and imperial oud.

the incredible royal laos wood is what has been on the burner past few sessions. the most delicious agalocha like notes of hay and soft leather meets delicious resin and oudy oud aroma of oils like encens royale and even twr. thin skins but oh so packed with old aged resin and oil. lovely stuff.

Some Hojari bubbling away as i contemplate which wood to heat tonight...
@Arsalan
Frank and santal are the two scents I use when I don’t want agarwood or cleanse between sessions.
So what did you end up heating afterwards?

for me, it has been lots of incense. Few of my own creations, namely the latest batch of incense made entirely of agarwood and 15% kinam/kyara of which half is green oil kyara via shoeido and other half an amalgam of hainan kinam, Vietnam red kinam, Brunei kinam. The wood is most nha trang anthole with some older more red nha trang tripple super. Result is mighty fine if I may humbly say so myself. Good amount of high grade charcoal powder and minimal binder used.

I burned some Hojari on med to high heat and as it liquefied I placed some sinking Filipino granules in the sizzling oil. The experience was incredible.
Ooooooh. That sounds like dessert. I am gonna be trying that if I can peel myself off the couch. I do have to say that I most enjoy frank along with some meaty black or red deep oil saturated sandalwood the most. As far as agarwood is concerned I have only usually used previously heated and monkoh’d pieces that’s till have some oomph but less regional signature. As not to waste... but if you say some top flight filipino granules getting a nice sauté in frank puddle, then I must and will try.

been burning some Filipino chips bought for cheap
its so mixed some top some gah, so much resin but there is many profiles..close to kohkong, some close to silani some typical filipino orange notes so good and so much other profiles and there is that ugly damn bad smell chips lol i smelt same when i was testing some malinau chips from shop here
