How many swipes

#1
Wanted to get a idea where you apply and how many swipes. Me being new to oils in general ive just been putting one on each side on my neck just under the ear and one on each arm. So 4 swipes in total. I do have a beard and seen a few times in ensars videos, some get a swipe on there hand and then rub it across there beard but never tried this way.

I usually swipe onto the top of my hand or knuckle. I try to rotate the places where I where oud oil to minimize and allergic skin reaction.

When I’m using for prayer/meditation, I go right under my nose. Partly because I don’t have the greatest sense of smell, partly because I like to mainline the scent in as potent a way as possible to maximize those soothing zen waves.

If I’m wearing for others/as a perfume, I swipe along my beard/jawline and then on the inside of my wrist.

Something high quality, one swipe should do. If it’s an entry level oil that fades a little faster, maybe two or three on the body swipes.

Yeah that’s the unfortunate down side of this hobby. Even after one under-nose swipe of basically any oil, I get a little sort of open wound right where my nose meets my upper lip and I have to keep chapstick on it the next day.

I have found that a small square of adhesive backed fuzzy side ( of "Velcro" Hook and Loop fastener) placed underneath the nose on the area between the nostrils allows me to enjoy the most direct and efficient experience of these great artisanal oud oils without irritation. This is an approach I only use at home or while driving for obvious reasons. During my initial three months of falling in love with oud and frequent applications I had no problems but after getting scalded by very hot coffee in the area just under my nose I developed a sensitivity to the oud oils. I have tried many approaches but for now this works for me. Out in public I will use sandalwood, vetiver or florals on my mustache if I want to experience fragrance without sensitivity.

Interesting, so you take a little piece of the fuzzy side of Velcro and just add the oil on the fuzz? Stick it under your nose?

bingo. i do some of the same things too.

i cant apply oud on upper lip area a good 24 hours or so after shaving. so totally understandable.

as for how many swipes asked by original thread opener @Geo , in my 100 oud applications, less than 3-4 of them is swipes for purposes of scenting one self for more of an enjoyment of others. i have various reasons for that. the cost, the waste, the fact that i typically crave (not always and not exclusively) oils that are quite high priced and that is not a game many can play, but more importantly is because oud for me is a meditative study. is something you study each and every wear. is about reflection and presence moment enjoyment. for me...

That's what I do.
When you get Velcro fasteners they come in two halves "hooks" and "loops". I work in the U.S. Space program and have heard it was a NASA invention. It was not, but...NASA uses it a lot especially in weightlessness where it holds things in place. I usually order the coin form which is about the size of a U.S. dime and has adhesive backing either side. Not sure how skin friendly the adhesive truly is but I haven't had problems with it. The fuzzy side has a lot of fine filament loops that seem to give the oil a scaffold and lots of convoluted surface area from which to slowly evaporate while protecting (in my case) sensitive skin. I found a use for the hook sided coins as well. These great oils can last many hours and evolve through the stages of drydown. I have a supply of 2" x 2" ziplocks (also from Amazon) and will stick a hook side coin inside the small ziplock. If you need to remove the Velcro and there is a lot of life left in it, attach the adhesive side to the hook sided coin that is stuck to the inside of the zip lock. Its surface holds on to the adhesive of the piece and yet releases easily when retrieving it meanwhile keeping the oil trapped in a small enclosed space. You'll find if you stick your "oud patch" to just the inside of the ziplock you'll be unable to remove it with the adhesive or bag intact. To round out your portable kit you can find tweezers small enough to fit in your 2'' x 2" ziplock which, by the way, can also accommodate up to 5 sample vials like Ensar uses. I found a colorful set of four < 2" tweezers for $7 at Walmart.
I wish I didn't need to do this but my love and fascination with these scents led me to figure this out and my nature is to share if it can benefit someone else.
Today my I had an enjoyable day with Oud Yunus...tonight a special visit to Port Moresby.
