Sturdy glass bottles weight

A very interesting topic taking place on another forum thought I would share and see what people have to say:

Hi All,

I heard that it is really difficult to pour 3g of oil in the standard sturdy glass bottles, most of them does not have this capacity or the oil can flow from the bottle when the dipstick is applied ..Maybe it's the reason why some trustful vendors sell only 2.5g in their sturdy glass bottles?
Since I bought a very precise digital scale(Smart Weigh GEM20)I am use to weigh all my bottles upon reception and as per my personal statement, each bottles should weigh 19.90g cap and dipstick included.Am I right?
Please share your experience and opinions...

C'est impossible, mon frère Firdaous!... Most sturdy glass bottles are manufactured to contain only 2.5 grams by weight, because most vendors sell by volume and do not bother weighing the amount of oil they sell in these bottles. If it looks like a quarter tola, then it must contain a quarter tola, the thinking goes! But it would be grossly inaccurate to assume that they are all manufactured in the same factory, share the same capacity, and weigh the same across the board. Just think about it. You could be measuring the volume of a bottle made in Guangzhou, and another made in Fujian, and another made in Guangdong.... There are as many factories producing such bottles as there are industrial areas in China! Even when comparing two bottles made in the same factory, it's impossible that the volume will be exactly the same, and the weight of the bottles will be identical. This applies even to the most expensive Schott Duran pyrexes that we use to store oils in, let alone the mass-produced quarter tola bottles. No two Schotts weigh the same, even if you take them out of the same box. So, I would be very careful in making judgment calls on a vendor's trustworthiness based on the volume they advertise for their bottles!

A good customer of ours once wrote me saying she didn't believe the sturdy glass bottles could actually contain 3ml. Here's an excerpt from what I said to her:

"I know you well enough to assume you're just pushing my buttons when you say you don't believe the bottle can hold 3ml! Not only does it hold 3ml, it actually contains 3 grams by weight, which is in fact more than 3ml by volume. I am so finicky about the bottles that I flew my staff to the UAE to buy bottles from Al-Haramain, just so that we could take the plastic applicators from inside of them! Everything else, including the actual glass bottle and golden cap that Haramain provided, was thrown into the trash bin. My staff flew back to Amman with several thousand plastic dipsticks in their suitcases, if you can believe that!

"Al Haramain's glass bottle, while aesthetically pleasing, was manufactured to hold only 2.5 grams of oil. We can't have that, because we sell in quarter tolas (rounded up to 3 full grams by weight, as has been my wont since the beginning), so we just use their plastic applicators and get our bottles from local suppliers in Amman. The only oil to date that our bottles wouldn't fit three full grams of was Kinamantan, which is why we only sold (and advertised) it in 2.5 gram units.

"You'll notice that the Haramain applicators are solid and filled at the top, and they click into the glass bottle, unlike the generic kind, which have a hollowed out top, and need to be pushed in. I really like that feature, and I find them aesthetically superior by far to the generic ones. It's unfortunate they don't sell them separately from the bottles, so we end up having to purchase thousands of empty bottles which we just discard after several hours toil at the hotel, after collecting the applicators.....

"I'd think you know me well enough by now to know that I am not embarrassed to raise prices and charge what I feel is right. So there's no need for me to advertise 3 grams and give less than what I advertise. I would simply say 2.9gr or 2.8, or whatever the bottle actually fits (as I used to do with the crystals Royal Kinam and Kyara Koutan were sold in, which maxed out at 2.7gr) and price the oil accordingly, while sparing myself from falling into shortchanging people on the scale, which is a major sin (there's an entire chapter of the Holy Koran that bears the title "Those Who Cheat on the Scales").

"But as I said, I know you're just trying to push my (religious) buttons when you say that, so I will not pay any heed to the allegations! :)"

Wow already ordered the TWR? Awesome going Sir! Congrads!
Yes, I had a knee jerk click on the 'buy' button immediately following Brian informing us of the pre-order link. A sign of weakness, LOL. I have no doubt it will be awesome as EO has never let me down.

Not at all my friend! I think its very interesting and important to talk about and understand. And the weight vs volume thing is good to know about. Good discussion! I just wanted to voice my viewpoint.
