Extractcraft Solvent Extraction: Ensar Oud 1970’s Mysore Sandalwood

I got a couple Extractcraft ethanol extraction machines, and decided to try them out today. I’ve had some of Ensar’s 1970’s Mysore sandalwood chips sitting in ethanol for a long time and decided to give it a go. I am so impressed with how this came out, but then again the raw materials are very...

    Brunei kinam (Ensar)

I also have some of Ensar’s Brunei Kinam wood and agree that it is really incredible; truly different than other top grade Brunei agarwood I have tried. Easy for me to breathe in the scent at room temp too!

    Kinam/kyara oils

I have had mixed results with ethanol and crassna agarwood; the scent always seems a bit off; it just smells weird. On the other hand, I’ve had amazing results with sandalwood ethanol extractions. I have no idea why. If you did decide to try this Ensar, I’d be very intrigued of what you...

    Kinam/kyara oils

That was really informative, thank you Ensar. I guess what I’m really curious about is if you did an ethanol extraction of Kyara, would you wind up with a solid chunk once the ethanol evaporated or would it be more of an oil? I’ve asked several knowledgeable people and gotten different...

    Kinam/kyara oils

I was looking at an older article on Kyarazen’s website and the picture on there describes there being very little oil in Kyara, mostly resin. https://www.kyarazen.com/age-agarwood-tree/

Wow, to me, that screenshot on the video Ensar posted looks like a cross section through a spinal cord. Unbelievably beautiful wood!

    Tincturing Agarwood

Really appreciate you posting this link!!! I actually have one of the KZ Kyara tinctures but haven't actually opened it up to sample yet! How does your Assam tincture compare to the raw wood (or for that matter the oil if you you used any of the same wood to do a proper distillation)?

    Tincturing Agarwood

Hey everyone, Has anyone had any success tincturing Agarwood? I have tried some cultivated Vietnamese and Thai woods in Everclear, and am just not crazy about what I get months down the line. It usually smells a little "off" to me. I wondered if it was just woods in general that don't smell...

    Special Occasion Picks

A bit overboard? I think I went a lot overboard, but then again, I don't think I was in my right mind that morning! I have become infatuated with Vietnamese oud the past couple years, but my heart still belongs to a good Maroke! :) Thank you Sir! I felt like an oud machine that day! None of my...

    Special Occasion Picks

So, I have been a longtime lurker on this forum (on basenotes as well), and very recently had a tough decision to make: what to wear on my wedding day. I've accumulated so much oud (wood, oils, oud based attars) over the past 5+ years on this obsessive scent journey that it would almost be...

    Black Friday @ EO

Forgive me, this question may have been asked earlier somewhere on the forum; is there a formal grading system for sandalwood (just for Mysore sandalwood, let's say), beyond the wood sinking or not, age of the tree, and perhaps where the wood came from (roots, heartwood, etc)?
