    Is Oudimentary a good source?

Mukhallat Salman is okay, but I'm certain there is synthetics in it--which is fine if you are into the more usual Arabian style perfumes. Their orange blossom oil I would imagine is pretty good. As for gazelle musk, it is not deer musk. I have not tried it, but just look at the bottle. That...

    pure attar and mukhallats

Alcadya, go to www.whitelotusaromatics.com to see a description of the Attars you are interested in. WLA is a wholesaler, they provide the Attars to J. Steele. You will be able to obtain them at a cheaper price from WLA than from Steele. He is not really a big advertiser. You can always call the...

    Destilation and tinctures

Alcadya, "tinctures" are always done in alcohol. If you do not want to use alcohol, then you can make an "infusion" by macerating the aromatic in sandalwood oil or fractionated coconut oil. I personally prefer sandalwood oil for this process, but FCO has a truly "neutral" odor. However, some...

    Jasmine Grandiflorum vs Jasmine Sambac

It's quite nice. Smells like Mysore upon first swipe, but reveals more floral/lotus-like notes on top of a clear and rich woodiness. A very nice sandalwood. Lately, I've preferred it to Mysore in some compositions.

    Papau Oils....

Yudha, I think OE and Maroke 2004 could blend well, but I enjoy them in their own right. Maroke 2004 is a much classier and more refined oil, so I am reluctant to introduce the more jungly/swampy elements of OE to it. In the end, I predict that blending the oils would detract something from each...

What is your best oud to wear on a hot weather?

I would have to say a Borneo oil is the best for summer time. It is light and sweet. Indians are way too warm, but some Cambodian oils can be nice in hot weather. I wouldn't typically go for a Maroke oil.

    Papau Oils....

I think Thai oils can be a bit "sour" sometimes, but I've noticed that they tend to lose their sourness with age. They are definitely a different scent profile than other Ouds. I feel the Indonesian oils have a crystalline Oud scent that is not as clearly expressed in oils from other regions.

    Papau Oils....

Thanks, d.dog, glad the site is serving its purpose :) Oud Yaquob is one of the best organic oils I've smelled. I thought nothing would top Yusuf, but Yaqoub is uniquely complex, and has a very atypical and interesting aroma. I don't feel I have even gotten to know it well enough yet to write...

    Jasmine Grandiflorum vs Jasmine Sambac

The Dabur is quite nice, but the rubber stopper has imparted a strong rubber aroma into the oil for me. I might order another bottle and transfer it out of the bottle immediately and see if that changes it. Otherwise, underneath the rubber, I can smell a rich and robust sandalwood that is one of...

    Papau Oils....

Irian became "Oud Emerald", and you are right, it has more of a swampy and damp profile. I would say Maroke 2004 shows a different side. Sultani is the best example of the Maroke profile. But Maroke 2004 offers a good approximation, in my opinion. I only have a sample, but hope to buy a full...

    Papau Oils....

D.dog, I also love Oud Royale II. It is one of my favorites. I haven't found anything similar to it yet. When I first smelled it, I could only compare it to Kyara Koutan. A beautiful oil. As for Maroke 2004, it is different from Royale II. Royale isn't exactly Papuan, it is from the...

Agarwood Against the Grain: Qi Nam Khmer

I have a sample arriving soon, so I'll be catching up with you soon, Masstika. I'm very curious to smell this oil and get a sense of what "Cambodi" really means. I also wonder how it will compare to what I have associated with Cambodian oils for so long now. EDIT: Sample arrived. Wow! So woody...

Agarwood Against the Grain: Qi Nam Khmer

Ensar, the only question on my mind when I read this is in regards to your posting in the Oud 101 thread about Cambodi Oud. You said you had only smelled true Cambodi Oud twice in your life, even making it clear that your Cambodian and Thai distillations to date were not even the Cambodi of the...

Where can I buy genuine Mysore Sandalwood oil?

Tarik, I do not see those oils on their website. However, I do have some "Royal Hawaiian" sandalwood from a different source, likely the one who supplied it to Eden Botanicals. It is extremely nice and lotusy. It is similar to Mysore Sandalwood, but it is not as deep and basey, it has a higher...

    100 Year-Old Chanthaburi Experiment

Ensar, this is a very exciting project. I'm just curious how this wood stands in contrast to the kyara that japenese companies sell?
