I just saw the statistic on the page; 121 active members! membership almost doubled in the last week; 99.9% spam. i guess its time to retire, till then fair well to all...

    100 Year-Old Chanthaburi Experiment

Ensar: Lessons from the Chanthaburi Experiment, Have you ever yet come to the point where you think to yourself that" "man...I went too far this time! I should have sold some of this wood as Incense and maybe just used half the precious materials in the Distill. I would have still gotten an...

Agarwood Against the Grain: Qi Nam Khmer

If I may pipe in to answer about where does Qi Nam Khmer fit in the picture of the Agarawood picture? I would say that it lies in the heart of the Golden section! it is that Magical number that is so familiar yet so rear and elusive. A friend who smelled it told me that it is the best smelling...

    Sandalwood Incense

IMHO, if you're looking for the best creamy smooth Sandalwood experience and you can afford to pay a little more then look no further than Daihatsu Sandalwood shaving. Nothing but mature heartwood Sandalwood from Mysore, no binding and no oil. http://www.japanincense.com/dh-0007.html For a...

Thanks Ensar for sharing those great photos. Can you please tell us which region of Borneo do they come from?

    What's on your burner today?

@Ensar: a page back you mentioned that you use an electric heater for Oud! I would have thought you would follow a more the Traditional way as in Charcoal and some ash. Is your choice is based solely on convenience and ease, or lack of clean charcoal type and proper ash or does the electric...

    What's on your burner today?

Wow...I guess that wood or tree is no good for making a canoe :) if there was only a way to sample the smell. How many grams do those pieces average each?

Thanks Ensar for the Clarification. the video I was thinking of was called The Soak, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_F3ljVaTk0 Behind you lays in different compartments what looked to me line fine ground up Agarawood. I thought it was being aired to dry.

    What's on your burner today?

@Tarik, if I am not mistaken, I believe they are the same. i think Mermaid sources her myrrh from Enfleurage Oman but I can't be sure. I think if you want small amounts then I'd go with Mermaid but if you want a kilo then I'd go with Enfleurage Oman.

Thank you Ensar. What I have seen in your video was a clip where they put the large agarawood chunk and branches in the grinder and then the resultant grind was put out to dry; is it put in the grinder again after that for further grinding and that's what needs to be dry to be grounded proper. I...

I had posed this question on another Board but have not received a satisfactory answer and I thought maybe Thomas, Ensar or anyone with distillation experience can address it if they please. The question is: why is the Agarawood shavings are left to air and dry for few days or weeks before they...

    Oudimentary

Thomas S: I haven't tried their Laotian Oud but I tried the one from Enfleurage enfulrage it is quite strong in the fecal/Barnyard scent very bold hay notes. I think it works very well in Mukhalat (mixes)

Thank you Thomas for your frank and thorough review. I was hesitant about their Assam Wood because they have mentioned that they have got from a mentor of theirs and I have a feeling they were referring to Tajul Bakshi who has a lot of Agarwood Plantations in Assam and he sells to a lot of the...

I had initially thought of it as Nuh because how well mannered it is but they are really different once I swiped them side by side. In my mind, it is much closer to Assam. It has a very classical Indian Oud profile minus all the negative traits of a Hindi (over the top fecal/barnyard notes or...

    about new releases

Even though the oil I am about to write about has not been released yet but I anticipate that it will be soon and I wanted to share with others my little observations on it. A disclosure from the start; the name of the oil is: "Ayoub" which is also my family name :) so when I heard about it...

    Oudimentary

@Thomas S: I am interested in the Indian Assam even though it is plantation; can you please elaborate a little on the scent profile and does it suffer from what other plantation Ouds sometimes suffer in terms of lack of depth, too much damp woody smell and no sweetness? Eager to read your comments.

Encens Imperial (new release from EnsarOud)

I have been told that the wood is indeed Indian and nothing else was added to the mix which then poses the question in my mind as to what is behind the flowery notes in the oil? Is the nature of the wood itself or is it a secrete tweak of the distiller?
