@Ensar, I have a bottle of Oud Nagoun that my Shiekh gave me in 2006. The oil is dated 2004. It is an incredibly fecal/zoo yard oil. The most barnyard I have ever smelt. It has this slightly cheese opening that has not diminished in 8 years. Was that one of your creations?
By no means! But I do have all of the Sheikh's remaining stash of that oil, as well as all his other ouds which he sourced in person from Sumatra, Kalimantan, etc. He kept them in his collection for about six years, then gave me his entire oud collection, along with quite a few bottles of musk he'd distilled himself, when I gave him some wild Koh Kong oud wood I sourced in Cambodia in 2010. He was so happy with the wood, he gave me his entire oud & musk collection! Now how is that for generous, and embodying the spirit of the sunnah of giving? He said, 'I know I've given you over $20,000 in oils, and I don't mind in the least.' May Allah be well pleased with him!

Subhan'Allah

You are a very lucky man Ensar. And here is me thinking I am lucky because I had one bottle. Well I am lucky and you are luckier. Wow I am speechless. May Allah be pleased with him.

Do you plan to sell any of that stuff or will you hold on to it as a kind of heirloom?

Once again I would like to congratulate you on your prize!

On another note - you mentioned how you macerated musk oil in sandalwood and did that a few times with the same oil.

I too have musk in sandalwood oil that has been there for three years. The oil is very dark now. How many times can I change oil and carry on using the same musk grains until they expire.

Not sure I can sell the Sheikh's collection, though you're welcome to visit me in Amman and explore the scents.

You'd have to literally boil the musk grains in sandalwood for the infusion to take effect. You can do this with specialized German lab equipment such as Schott Duran or Pyrex beakers.

One thing that confuses me about your question is the statement that the 'oil is very dark'. My oil remained a consistent orange color, without ever getting too dark. Are you sure the musk was genuine?

Azizi Ensar when do you expect we could try your new Khao Yai. If you predict the price by now
The wood is still soaking as of today, Sheikh Taleb. Will definitely post the newest developments tomorrow, as soon as we take the soaking dust out of the water. Will report on the scent of the soaked dust, and the type of still I pick for distillation. Tomorrow marks thirteen full days of soaking. Won't have a clue about the price until the distillation is over and I know the exact yield.

The Sandalwood has turned a deep amber colour. I bought them from the guy who used to run 'silk roads end' Its the real deal. I don't know weather they are Siberian Tonquin or Indian.

It has been three years. I think they have been in there too long.

I have some sandalwood oil on its way and will proceed to empty out the oil into an empty bottle and replace with fresh oil. What I need to know is how long I can carry on doing before the grains become exhausted of potency and how long should each maceration last. Also will heating the oil or sunning in the Saudi heat where I now reside have a detrimental effect on the oil of it is prolonged?

I've done mine three times, with each maceration lasting at least two to three years. Heating the oil briefly will be necessary for the musk to infuse the sandal. I wouldn't sun an essential oil if I could help it.

So mine is now about right right to change oil. I have mine in a 3ml bottle around 9 to 10% grains. Could I replicate with a 1 tola of Sandalwood oil with this much grains?

Dear Ahmir.... I thought you were talking about a 50 or 100 ml bottle with at least 15-20 grams musk. :) For such a small amount you're better off leaving the bottle the way it is, or use it as you normally would and when the sandalwood runs out simply replenish it and leave it on top of your heater in the winter for about 2-3 weeks.

Thank you :)

What in your opinion is the difference between Hindi Musk and Tonkin?
Is Tonkin better quality scent wise? Or longer lasting?
Does Hindi mean its from somewhere else in India as opposed to coming from Nepal, Kashmir, Pakistan or Tibet?

Oh boy... Most of these are not to launch for a few years, Abdullah...

Edited 2/8/12:

We've received complaints from customers that the list is long and confusing. We are therefore limiting the list of available ouds to what is already listed on the website. Please visit www.oriscent.com for more info.

Thank you.

I just read one e-mail from Ensar from the past, about Oud Zachariah:
" The scent of olive leaves intermixed with the woody overtone of aged Hindi Oud oil, evokes ancient times, and prophetic traditions; which is why we named this Oud Zachariyya."
