An old friend visited today, an esteemed customer from Jordan. He was in dismay and disarray over the “recent developments” he’d read somewhere on the net, and was keen to hear my take. I feel what I told him might be of interest to others, whether it be my ‘haters’ or my own children twenty years from now, so I thought I’d share some of what was said…
It may not be glaringly obvious when we sit on fine Italian couches and engage in polite conversation that this world we live in is cutthroat… We kill other beings in order to consume their flesh. Those beings in turn consumed other beings before being consumed by us. In a realm such as this, how can “oud wars” come as a shock? Ask anyone who’s ever succeeded at anything. The laws of dogs out to eat other dogs dictate that there’s a “King of Comedy” chasing after each and every one of them.
When reading any random “love rant” on the net, it’s important to grasp the author’s objective. You must look past the vitriol and screenshots and get to the bottom of what they’re out to accomplish. The one out to undermine my company has a very simple message for the world: “Allah Most High must have made a mistake when He granted success to Ensar Oud. EO is not deserving of that success. It should have been mine instead.” Nothing more, nothing less. It is called hasad in Arabic. We all know it, and can easily spot it for what it is: Envy. What else could motivate someone to email Kafkaesque to talk her out of reviewing my oils?
There are laws of physics and laws of metaphysics. The former can be broken, but the latter are God’s own writ:
“Allah loves for you, whenever you do anything, to perfect what you are doing.”
“We shall never bring to loss whosoever perfects what he does.”
“And whoever fears Allah, He makes for him a way out, and provides for him from whence he least expects it.”
“And whoever puts his trust in Allah, Allah suffices him.”
“And my success is through none other than Allah.”
How can anyone who lives with these precepts in mind be affected by what people write on the internet? Can anyone unwrite what Allah has written for one?
I would advise whoever wants to try their hand at business to keep those precepts in mind, and live and die by them. And I would advise them to be original. If it’s been done by someone before you, chances are you cannot outdo the one who had the idea to begin with. Can you outshine Edison? Outxerox Xerox?
I emailed and congratulated @Adam upon the launch of his website for its originality and not being yet another clone of my website. Successful business is about breaking new ground – not taking the words of someone and spitting them right back at them while calling them a liar.
Business acumen is no sin. If you plan to market anything, it behoves you to know a thing or two about marketing. The sin consists in not delivering.
Areej Le Doré is another brilliant example of originality and breaking new ground. I foresee enormous success for the line.
If someone has already succeeded at something and perfected it, there is generally room for only one more brand to compete. Number 3 is way off in the weeds. Number 4 farther afield. (These are laws that they teach cunning marketers at Distraction University.) This is why no one can outdistill @Taha, whether they put kinam in their oil or a wood that they died and went to Heaven to source.
The religion is sincere advice.
