Hey everyone, I get asked all the time to compare oils that are seemingly similar, so I'll go ahead and share those with you here, and I'd love to hear your comparisons and contrasts of artisanal oud oils that bear similarities.
To start this morning I was asked about Oud Ehab vs People's Silani. So here we go:
These two are excellent to compare side by side considering there outward similarity, but put them on and the differences quickly emerge.
Perhaps you're familiar with the vibrant aquamarine mimosa coolness that Sri Lankan walla patta ouds possess and both Oud Ehab and People's Silani have that oceanic vibe, except Oud Ehab starts off like the sea amidst a deep water squall, roughened and darkened by the storm, whereas People's Silani is calm tropical waters from the outset.
I attribute the depth to the New Guinea walla patta within Oud Ehab reminiscent of the 2010 Jayapura oil, nowhere to be found. The storm however quickly subsides and the sea calms, the sun bursts through the clouds with a sweet warmth which I attribute to the harmony of Sri Lanka and New Guinea giving way to the sweetness of the crassna, all the while People's Silani remains tropical waters, with wafts of a creamy guava sprinkled with pepper.
Oud Ehab makes for a pleasant wear and the opening makes it a must experience for collectors and #oudept connoisseurs longing for a glimpse at that elusive Jayapura note, while People's Silani can be slathered on without moderation, very easy to wear and appropriate for work situations with enough exotic allure to to satisfy your Oud crave.
