allergic reaction

i tried an oud new to me yesterday and this am woke up with a rash where it was applied and numb and tingling lips. i did nothing out of the norm yesterday and im sure it was the oil because of the rash was exactly where the oil was on both arms. my lips havent gotten any worse or i would go to a dr. my mother, a registered nurse, says the symptoms are those of an allergic reaction like a bee sting or, a neurotoxin simular to, psp, paralitic shellfish piosoning. so i had a reaction or got poisoned, neat huh?

how would i get the word out without upsetting anyone?

Hmmm. I'm now getting allergic reactions to oud as well. I just get a delayed dermatitis, and it's mild, so I'm just careful where I put the oud ( thicker skin seems to be worse) and don't wear it every day. In my case, it seems that it's the real oud which will do it, ie stuff from different reputable sellers has caused a reaction, whereas a mkhallat without oud will not. In your case, the tingling numb lips is a worrying sign and may be a precursor to an anaphylactic reaction, ( the really bad time critical life threatening allergic reaction). If no other oud has ever done this, I would put it down to a new antigen which is in the oil. It could be anything from an aromatic component to an adulterant. Personally I would not wear it again, apart from triggering an anaphylactic response you don 't want to develop cross- reactivity to real oud, which would mean u could never use oud ever again!!! If you are a real oud lover ( which being on this forum I assume you are), it may be worth getting proper allergy testing from an immunologist ( & I mean from a real internal medicine physician, not the dodgy natropathic kind).
Not sure what you mean in the last sentence, ie do u mean approaching the vendor to tell them what happened?

P.S. If this happens again with lip swelling, or u develop sweating, wheezing / shortness of breath, swelling of face ,lips or tongue, PLEASE call an ambulance IMMEDIATELY -it could be anaphylaxis and the paramedics and their adrenaline shot could save your life. Dont mean to sound dramatic, but it is important!

lucky for me ive got dr. mom(reg nurse) across town. ive never been allergic to anything but, ive got no issues breathing. i didnt want to throw the oud seller under the bus until i confirmed that was the cause. we have talked and believe it was the oil and no hard feelings, i will have to figure out a diff way to wear it. ill leave the thread up for anyone incase it happens to another person here but, im not naming names. ive been wearing oud daily for months so im going to take some time off of skin use and, try burning more.

never useing oud again sure would be cheaper but, what a dull life.

the rash is almost gone but my bottom lip has little blister/pimple like bumps along the bottom edge. my top lip seems alot better and has regular feeling back to it. this is all very new to me as ive never had a reaction to anything.

yes thankfully its not my oud sultani, WHEW!

the seller thinks that the crassna species of agarwood could be a prob for people with sensitive skin. once again im not upset with the seller as they have been very symathetic and supportive.

i dont buy cheap ouds anymore, ive got bottles of cheap/suspect oud that i plan to destroy in some creative manner.

Uhm..... sounds like a cold sore. Herpes simplex 1 or 2.

Anaphylaxis is a very different thing and not something that lasts for days. It comes on suddenly and is life threatening.
A localized contact dermatitis is not a true allergy.

Case in point. I had a new patient come in last week and tried to tell me she was allergic to potassium. "I'll die if I take it" No matter how I tried to educate her that everyone has and needs potassium for life, cellular transport mech etc., she kept her ground.

My point is you sound like it is something very different from an allergy. Contact dermatitis is at the localized area of application. Unless you are putting it on your lips you have two different things going on.

Hmmmm, I'm pretty sure a rash counts as an allergy, of course not anaphylaxis if it's contact dermatitis, but it's still under the umbrella of allergy. Anyway, I'll leave the detail to a medical blog rather than this one as I'm no Immunologist/ Allergy specialist.

HAHA, im sure its not herpes. ive never had a cold sore in my life and, i got a clean bill of health when i had my last spine surgery. besides i didnt know herpes caused numb tingling lips and rashes on your arm where i put my oils.
oil 015.jpg
my arm where a rash and a blister like node(hive?) after 3 days
oil 021.jpg
my lips after 3 days, still feels like they are dry, chapped and cracked around the edges but, look supple. the bottom lip had about 6 tiny bumps and some are visible in this pic.

so doc(str8shooter), is this a reaction to a toxin since you ruled out the allergy? i can say the benadryl didnt do a thing but make me tired.

Correct, a rash is an allergy / contact dermatitis.

Honestly, from long distance diagnosis from the pics and your description, it looks like you have two things going on. Yup cold sore on mouth and contact dermatitis on the arm.
You can get a cold sore very easily such as drinking a soda after someone else with one. Very common and in the same virus family as chicken pox.
