Allergy to Oudh oils

#41
Edit- After conducting a make-shift skin test at home on on non-sensitive spots, it turns out I am actually allergic to oud itself. :(

Other essential oils and fragrances such as musk or ambergris are fine, only oud does it.

Since I cannot stand not wearing the beauty of an oil straight on the skin, it is with a heavy heart that I will not be posting here anymore (although I will respond to any PM's for sure). :)

Thank you everybody for being so thoughtful, helpful and supportive, this forum is truly a small blessing.

Uh oh, sounds like you have a sensitivity to high concentrations of volatile compounds in oud. I know two other people who are sensitive to oud.
One guy discovered that if he dilutes the oud enough, then he doesn't get a rash. And of course, applying to clothes as well he doesn't get a rash.

Sorry to hear about this bro! One thing that does seem to help is building up your body's tolerance.
Take a 2 week break. Then apply a very small amount one day, just once. Take a couple days off. Maybe a heftier swipe after that. Something like that.

@Taha:How bad is there reaction though?

I get a very red, rather large area that resembles hives without the bumps and extremely dark degree of colour to it.

Takes 3 days to fade, and itches rather badly.

Also, did a prick test on myself, same result, so I'm not sure if it is just densitivity (I'm allergic to pollen, certain weeds and an unknown compound in mosquito bites as well)...

I tried to reapply green papua last night after the UV treatment and I got small rash again.
I don't get rash on my palm or on the fingers which I used to open the bottles. So seems like the thicker skin is resistant to the reaction from the oil.

Yup, but I apply scents for perfume purposes on a spot where I can also catch whiffs.

Not feasible of only your hands, wrist area and feet are safe. :(

Thanks anyway.
putting on clothes will be the best , I have couple of friends who are allergic to any perfumes , but my Wife also is super sensitive to Oud , Hence My oils are rarely used unless I take it to the Masjid and Brothers are happy after , But If I wear Oud Me wife kicks me out the house , Hence I go to the masjid after to Hang out or Tim Hortons for Coffee and play chess with friends ,lol

I have Eczema and the thicker oils are the ones that give me problems as they clog my pores. What I do is take a swipe and use my pinky to spread it out.Havent had any problems since I started this. The thinner oils desnt give me a problem.Just shot that out there to see if it help, even if one doesn't have eczema I would think that thicker oils is probably clogging your pores..

Seen and Old Guy with the same Issue , what he does he takes Rose Water and Drop of Oud oil and Sometime he mixes frankincense and makes a spray , it works out for him , I told the Old guy make more so he can sell , he said ' I have no time bros , its a house hold product that anyone can make" hence there is the technique , you can change the scent by adding different floral oils but sometime a good shake is needed , lol cause you might see the oils floating on top , It works for my friends who has skin problems

I have reacted to a couple of oils. What I did was get some 8mm cotton piping cord and made a wrist band and put drops of oil directly on to that, works well and oud lasts an age on it. Would also be good if you want to wear Hindi but have to go to an appointment etc. You can take the band off and put it in a little ziplock and put it back on after.
Yup, they last a long while this way - i explored using a headband. The ziplock trick is new to me and is pretty neat! Some oils do have different development on fabric vs skin though, try it both ways and enjoy the different spectrum! Esp fun with Oud Hud - barn floor, whiffs of hay, lanolin in raw wool, sheep poo, barn wall, the stalls ... oh my ...
