Hey there @Joe

Considering that the Legends are no longer for sale, I wouldn't consider their descriptions advertising.

Like a scent pyramid of a Perfume, I feel they enhance one's experience of the oils, and these serve as a journey back in time, for those who have owned them to reminisce and for those who haven't to have at least some idea of each oud was about.

I also find books rather than online articles or publications, far more enjoyable and satisfying, a physical book adds a degree of interaction and appreciation.

There’s a principle that I try to adhere by that says: “Whoever does something, let them perfect it.”

This publication is our way of perfecting those years of works, giving them a conclusion, closure, and the recognition we feel they deserve.

If it was about money, we would simply just charge for access to the archives, or start some kind of membership fee...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though Joe, any and all input is welcome and appreciated!

For a brand who markets their oils as an investment this is bothersome. I tried to resell some Ensar Oud oils and potential buyers wanted more information about the oils.
I could not find the information since the pages were taken down.
I don't see the book as a valid excuse to take down the Legends section on the wesbite.
If it isn't about money then put the Legends information in the book and on the website.
Dear @AZsmell
Ah, I see. That is really informative to know, thank you for bringing that to my attention.
For any situations such as that, you and anyone else, are welcome to contact me directly and I can provide you or your potential buyers with access to that information.
Many people contact me on a regular basis for verification and authentication of purchases, and I always do my utmost to provide the information.
That said, if one is reselling a product, it's best for them to use their own descriptions, or ask the author's permission to use theirs.
Your final statement will also definitely be considered.
Thanks for your input!

Hey Adam,
Do whatever the hell you want with your website. I miss the Legends section but I am not going to cry about it. You are under no obligation to anyone to provide them what they think they deserve outside of the sale of oil. Sometimes this modern sense of entitlement drives me crazy.

No company is obligated to take care of a customers unreasonable expectation. That’s different than “not caring about what customers want”.

@AZsmell has a point but so do the owners of ensar oud the company. how about a solution that is win win. leave people's reviews of the legends up on the site or even here on gaharu as an added service (note added as none of this is expected) to help future buyers and reseller, etc.

I don't see how taking a discontinued product down from an online store and putting it in a published book is not a huge win for whoever invested in it.

Imagine you bought the original Mitsouko or Shalimar as an investment. Would you rather direct prospective buyers to Guerlain's website to read the product details, or would you refer them to Luca Turin's "Little Book of Perfumes: The Hundred Classics"?

I'd like to thank everyone for there input and especially those that offered their support and assistance in the publication process!

The current draft of the book features the history of Ensar Oud / Oriscent, as well as the journey, select and memorable pieces of oud wood that have been encountered along the way, as well as the archives that are Oud Legends.

If there is anything you've always wanted to know about Ensar Oud or his journey, or if you want to contribute to the publication, feel free to contact me publicly or privately.

With appreciation,

Hello,
I've been a regular reader for quite a while. So hopefully it is ok to post this. This upcoming book sounds fascinating. Along with buying from Sultan Pasha et al., I make my own 100% natural attars these days - purely for personal use. So this book can be quite useful as well as fun to read. I have one request: if possible, please include a table with the following information:
  • Name
  • release date/year
  • distillation date
  • jungle/country of origin
  • age of the tree
  • distillation pot type
  • no of soaking days
  • original price
  • key notes (any specific fruit, flowers, etc.) being mentioned in terms of progressions - top, heart and base
  • longevity
  • anything else you can think of
I tend to break down every single oil in terms of other smells over its duration on skin. So it can be anything - ranging from other oils, animalics, spices, fruits, veges, & so on - i.e., any objects that has smells and I can relate to. Consequently, I've written quite a lot in terms of notes on every oil that I have - around 95 so far, without ouds. The only thing I did not try on my skin is civet. :D This helps me a lot when I make my own odd little blends. So, this table will be a great help for people like me, who enjoys making their own blends. It would be even better if you can make that table available online in the future.

Thank you for reading my long post. :)

Hello all,

To add to the above points, we will not be publishing the customer reviews without consent, so if you'd like your reviews to be published, and commemorated along with the Oud Legends, please let me know at your earliest convenience through email, and you'll be part of the Legend!

With appreciation,

I will buy the book for sure! However, like AZsmell has already mentioned there is no damage or harm done by also keeping the information available to the public on your website unless the goal is to sell as many books as possible.

When can it be available to order?

No issues leaving any of my reviews!

I did, as a newbie, spend hours upon hours reading up on the legends (with a fair amount of drooling mind you) on the website. It definitely helped fuel a burgeoning passion for oud. That being said, a book would be cool and Ensar Oud certainly has a right to publish one!

One little thing though, reading up on the legends definitely prompted me to buy more oud, including some of the “obtainable” legends but also new oils with similar profiles.

Either way, good luck with the book!!!

There is something to be said about holding an actual book in your hands, and turning paper pages. I think it adds value to the written word. Having said this, I do have one question: What happens if, the day after the book comes out, an oil currently listed such as Midori Qi sells out? I suppose the write-up will be removed from the site, and will only be accessible until a second edition of the book is published - right? Similarly, write-ups of future releases will one day be gone from the site and will only make it in to a subsequent book edition.

Any chance there can be a digital book/library on the website - where access will be restricted to paying members - so that content can be continuously updated?
I have 0 qualms whatsoever purchasing the book, and I fully intend on doing so and supporting this endeavor. But will I purchase another book (second edition) in 2-5 years? Probably not.

I guess taking screenshots of current releases for personal reference would be okay. But if you try to profit from the screenshots that would be piracy :p:p:p
