Face to Face with Ensar Oud

Well, before you decide on a price, pick a scent. Once you know your 'flavor' you can start looking at pricing options. Most people are not aware of this, but one single bottle of oud contains enough swipes to use for a whole year, if applied once a day. So, for all practical purposes, $50 - $100 difference in price won't really break the bank, if you split it over one entire year the bottle will last you.

I don't know which faith you belong to, but to us Muslims to wear beautiful scents is considered an act of worship (just like giving money in charity) and it is not deemed wasteful or extravagant in Islam for one to spend up to one-third of one's wealth (savings and income!) on fragrance. :)

I lack the self control to get away with two swipes. Also, people look at you strangely when you keep shoving your wrist into your nose all day and then wiggling your nose and wrist around to capture different notes.

Ensar i would order at least one bottle from each of your oils IF i were rich :)

Maybe in a few months i have enough for one bottle :) ...

Excellent post, Ensar. Your comparison to high end automobiles was very apt.
Thanks, Neesh! I've been struggling to get this point across for a while now, and for some reason it just doesn't register. "Bottle image with text on the side; friendly guy on the other side of the New Wild West, and therefore that must mean 'decent quality oud'." The mind, for some reason, doesn't seem to be able to categorize something so elusive and shall I say 'poetic' as fragrance as sharply and rigidly as it does tangible goods in a department store, where a Seiko is okay, but not quite a Rado, which is not quite a Rolex, which is no IWC, which is no Breguet, Patek Philippe, etc. Na'mean?

Ensar i would order at least one bottle from each of your oils IF i were rich :)
May the Provider and Sustainer enrich you without reckoning, and from sources you least expect your wealth to come from. Ameen.

You should try doing it in a NYC subway car wearing Islamic garb. Most folks will take you for an exotic circus act; but they'll be beaming with appreciation for it. :)

Hi guys,

Just want to clarify some things:

1 - We encourage anyone to join the forum and, more importantly, to join in the discussion. Recent remarks have hinted that the forum revolves around one member and is used to market certain products at the exclusion of others. We currently have 87 members registered. Anyone of them is free to contribute. They are free to express their enjoyment of any oil from any vendor. The fact that some members contribute more than others does not mean the site belongs to them or is run in their favour. There are threads dedicated to oils from other vendors and nobody is discouraged from participating in those, nor has anybody been rebuked for doing so.

2 - When the forum was started, membership was open to everyone. However, some of you might recall that we then saw a barrage of strangely-named members signing up daily. Soon, posts appeared advertising prescription-free drugs, Viagra, sofa beds, and whatever else. Spam is a major headache for forum administrators. We continue to receive a large number of spammers signing up, but we implemented a system whereby spam users are kept at bay. The result is that it is possible for people who actually want to join the forum for what it is, might be filtered out along with the spammers. Case in point, I recently saw a post by Fungusamongus on basenotes. The name sounds familiar, and might have been one that the system threw out as spam. So, Fungusamongus, if you’re reading this, please sign up again :)

3 - Gaharu is an oud user’s forum. This means that the discussion should be about oud and your experience with its wonderful varieties. This is not an advertising board, nor a shop. We now have the marketplace where everyone can swap, sell, or express their desire for certain oils, but we don’t allow direct marketing. We have no quarrels if vendors announce a new release or describe the details of a product (as opposed to being explicit sales announcements). If anybody wants to buy anything, please do so at the respective sellers’ stores. At this point, I won’t hide the fact that we do not permit certain people membership because of their record in doing just the abovementioned kind of marketing. I’m sure everybody here knows about the likes of 'oudh hamilul missk’ who, for one, went through my (and others’) entire friends list on facebook, messaging them about his products. I received several messages from friends (who have never even heard of oud) that this guy has contacted them and if I’m associated with him. There have been member requests from distillers which we did not allow for this reason. The last thing we want is for this forum to turn into a place where such people overload our inboxes with PM’s about their special oils and special prices. To repeat, this is an oud user’s forum, not a trader’s platform. If you want to deal directly with distillers, looking for a cheaper deal or something of the sort, you’re welcome to go to facebook or alibaba and contact them from there.

Cheers,

I can't understand why there are so many people bashing Ensar, his quality & prices? I was gone for a while, when I started reading the past couple months of comments, I was shocked that he continues to answer basically the same arguements over & over. I don't think (some) people are using common sense. The guy is good if not the best at what he does, I believe in his product 100%. If you just read what he says, check out his product, look at his expression in these films, if that isn't passion what is it, don't tell me that's greed, if he wanted he could sell his stock & tell us all to take a hike. He does go to these distillers, he does go tree to tree when possible. I believe he can be considered a great artist, he made this an art. When & if he sells out WE will be the losers. People should use your heads, why haven't you gone out, traveling, living room to hotel to motel, very little sleep day by day. Try just that, not counting the people, their customs, the food, you will find out how sick & tired & old you will get maybe some days are great even good days can get old on te road, I know very well how it gets. What would you do, better yet why aren't you out there doing the dirty work, I won't.
The one thing you can depend on, you might pay top $$, you know you have a beautiful top shelve, rare bottle of oud, if you don't want to pay top $$ don't, he has a lower priced still considered the best affordable oud, would you travel to all these countries, take chances, hand over thousands of $$ of your cash, come back listen to all this nonsense, then just give your product away for no profit, I know I wouldn't. I do feel safe/confident sending my $$, I know what I'll get at least what I pay for.
I'm no expert, but don't use this site for a month or two, then come back & catch up on what people are still complaining or gripeing about. I felt so bad I apologized for the lack of common sense & lack of respect from/for all of us. People gripe & whine without thinking about the whole picture, he has some good answers for everything he does.

I know many people will dislike/hate what I wrote, if you don't want to pay don't, it's your loss, not his.
I don't mean to put everyone in this catagory, & I know Taha is good at what he does, I'm not trying to kiss Ensar's you know what, seriously give the guy respect, think it just makes some of you look like crybabies, Sorry but it's true!!!

Thanks Ensar for your blood sweat, & tears!

Ensar and I have signed a truce...may such accord exist in the real world. That said I have to call you out on your Seiko analogy. Seiko is a multi-tiered company and in Japan they make watches that are just as good as any watch on the market. Well maybe not a PP perpetual calendar but close. Here's a beautiful video of the Seiko Credor Minute Repeater, the chime note is taken from a bell that has been rung in a monastery in Japan for many centuries.

d. dog, I completely agree with you... no one is forced to buy from any vendor at the end of the day... however, having said that, I am happy to see that any misunderstanding between fumigator and Ensar has been cleared up, because while I am a fan of Oud from Ensar, it is also healthy to have different opinions and viewpoints as long as they are grounded in reality and I for one would have been somewhat upset to see people with differing opinions leave the forum. We are all adults here - I think! - and should be able to discuss opinions and views in a mature and amicable manner and hopefully benefit from that process.

I know what I wrote didn't pertain to everyone but come on, stop being so critical, envious of the wrong person(mirror). I was afraid people would attack what I wrote, I hope it makes us think about what the bottom line is; good oud is an art, good art is rare and costly. Now I think not just Ensar but his competitors are distilling excellence, if you think about what classified a good oud in the past was mostly the age & area of the tree now, things are different with no more hundred+ year old trees we have good, better oud (thank you Ensar). I think there is good oud available, I want great oud, I'm poor on a fixed income, I give up the xtra little things, save $$ for the best, its what I love.
Thank you for reading & your answers, this site has good information, we don't need the nonsense.

Just for the record, the Hadith says 'made beloved'.

حُبِّبَ إليّ من الدنيا : النساء والطيب ، وَجُعِلَتْ قُرَّةُ عَيْنِي فِي الصَّلاةِ . رواه الإمام أحمد والنسائي

Made beloved to me from your world (are) women and perfume, and the coolness of my eyes has been made in prayer.

The first 2 are worldly (as per the wording of the Hadith) the last is religious. I won't comment on the explanation as it is easily accessible in the books of Hadith.
