How do you wear yours?

I have been purchasing Oud for several years now, but I only realised that how you wear it also has a big impact on your experience of it. For example, my favourite method at the moment is to dab it on lightly, get in the car, turn on the AC and recirculate the air after 5 minutes. I can detect subtle notes in this way that I never knew existed!

What I used to do was to put some on the inside of my wrists and neck/beard and rub vigorously, but that did not yield the best results. If I am not going to use the car, I lightly dab the outer wrists now and lightly dab my neck. I find that putting too much on my beard overloads my nose and I cannot make anything out except a torrent of full-on generic 'Oud' smell, which I don't like, as it is overpowering. Is there another way?

I swipe one of my wrists, and lightly rub them together. Then I use my wrists to spread the oil on my neck, and beard, and underneath, and also on my chest, or shirt. Sometimes I will apply Oud to my neck in addition to on my wrists and rub it all together. Depends on the oil. But I feel content with this method.

Since I live in a hot climate and I wear short sleeves most of the time, I tend to wear my oil one third up my arm from the wrist on the outside. I found that area of my skin to be the thickest with the most texture and body hair to hold onto the oil the longest. The inside of the wrist I found to be too soft and with no hair the scent seems to disappear pretty quickly. If I am wearing dark color shirt I put on some on the inside of the collar and that lasts for a very long time. Lastly, a dab in the palm of the hand and slightly rubbing it so that the smell might rub on others when you shake hands as a way of spreading goodness :). most important, on the mustache.

One of the ways the Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported to have applied his perfume was to put a small dab on the top of his left hand. He would then use his right index finder, or sometimes his pinky, gently taking a pinch from the swipe he applied. He would then first apply some on his right eyebrow (from the inside, outward), take another pinch and apply it to his left. He would then continue in the same fashion and apply a dab behind his right earlobe, then his left. After the ears, he'd put some beneath his nose, extending it to the sides of his moustache. He would conclude by rubbing is hands together, applying what remained around his beard (peace be upon him).

When offered some perfume by someone else, he would hold out his right hand where the perfume would be applied on his palm, at the edge of his hand, between his thumb and index finger. He would then either bring his hand right up to his moustache, dragging it down, over his chin to beneath his jaw. Or, he would first rub his hands together, and then wipe the sides of his cheeks.

Subhan'Allah, thanks for that sunnah. may Allah ta'ala reward you in abundance.

Often and always... Based on the above recommendations I've grown out my beard to get the most from my oils.

My first euphoric experience with Oud was in the car. Initially it was love at first sniff of Bornean oil, but my appreciation for Cambodis began when I was on a road trip with the car loaded floor to ceiling headed into the city. I had applied it to the my inside of my wrists and at first it garnered protests from my wife but by the time we reached our destination some four hours later we were both unusually calm and had absolutely no anxiety about the task of navigating the busy metropolis. I was incredibly focused and and absolutely euphoric! It was an amazing journey of scent but I was hooked by its incredible aromatherapeutic properties. I was ecstatic to have discovered this magic potion.

I prefer wearing more linear oils in my hair or beard. I usually wear Hindis or Cambodis on my skin. The skin's warmth more quickly moves these oils into their various drydown phases. That said, I rubbed a bit of rather-fecal Assam oil on my mustache a couple hours ago and I'm loving' it!

I wear it on my neck and generally wear non-collared shirts. However, I wore a dress shirt today for my father's 90th birthday party, praise be to the Almighty. So I just found out that I stained my white dress collar with oud today. I ran it under cold water and zapped it with oxyclean. Anyone have insight or suggestions for cleaning shirts with the oil on it?
