Kaliman Kala

#1
Kaliman Kala, a combination of different Borneo distillations. Now in the "Legends" section of EnsarOud.com (but still available).

The Kaliman Kala is outstanding. Never before have I smelled a Borneo with such a deep, rich, camphor-minty accord. It is a dry, powdery, strong mint note that comes out about fifteen to twenty minutes after application. To me it smells like the scent of rich Yemeni myrrh added to the most enchanting Borneo oud imaginable, with hints of eucalyptus and nutmeg.... It lasts for almost half an hour then slowly morphs back to the scent of gently heated Borneo chips – very, very lovely.
To me, this oil is dearer than the Bois de Borneo.
Matter of fact, I just ordered a replacement bottle.

Thomas everytime I read one of your descriptions of Kaliman Kala, I pace around my house looking for things to sell so I can grab a bottle lol! You have a way of articulating your olfactory perception into language that few can match!

I find that sometimes when I try to describe on oud, especially the higher end oils that I trail off into a kind of abstract poetisism. Ultimately I think that loses or turns off some people. Some oils though are so complex that they are almost impossible to put into words...reminds me of a quote by Terrance McKenna " You try to throw language at the thing, but it sheds it off like water off a ducks back!"

I just wanted to say that I dig your passion for all things agarwood! I just wish you where closer, I'd love to here your thoughts on Sultan Murad. Maybe we could figure that out someday!

GaianMind, I just only now read what you wrote. Thank you very much for the lovely compliment. Rest assured, I see yourself as a connaisseur of all things agarwood so you will know already which oils to choose... :)

Oh, yes the Murad...that would be something.
Recently I wrote a review on the Abdul Aziz, which you can find in the review section of that oil on EO´s website. This one is also an oil of mighty stature.

That's a wonderful way to crank up the oud in Borneo Zen, Thomas S. I did my best to keep the oud in the background and let the musk and florals do their thing, but I'm sure there are many Zen lover who would love an oudier Borneo Zen, and what you've described would be just the way to do it! :)

Thank you, Ensar. I love all three versions: Borneo Zen as "standalone" perfume and Kaliman Kala with its profound Bornean character. And then the mixture of both which seem to create something entirely new, sharing the best of both worlds as it were.
