Today I received the beautifully crafted Oud Royale (Sri Lanka)
Ahhhhhhhh and ohhhhh ya came out after smelling this magnificent Oudh. Oh my gosh this oil is of some different breed! When I opened it I smelled Sinharaja X and said wait a second, it’s there but not there. Next I smelled Kyen, that too was there but not hitting very hard. Next I smelled Sultan Salman but again that came and went.
I began wondering what other notes will come out. After 3 hours or so, the oceanic sea breeze started coming out. The incense Walla Patta notes are just so dang delicious that you feel like drinking the bottle up.
The Oil also has Ensar’s signature of the front middle and end notes being very unique and different. Bravo Ensar for this magnificent Oudh. The name is very appropriate for this oil to be named a Royale.
The new applicator stick is just awesome also. I am going to age this some more and see what wonders it will do. Thank you again for sharing this oil with us and me particularly!!

Totally awesome my brother!! Congratulations on receiving what sounds like a beauty!!
I too was expecting the arrival but this was one of the few times DHL has let me down. No show on for my bottle. Ah well, gotta be patient. :(

I got a sample of this and love it. Very smooth all the way through. I can't stop smelling my wrist.
I hope to get a bottle of this before it sells out but not sure I can make a purchase right now.

I am curious how this oil is developing. I am going to have to give this a try soon.
i think we ought to be thinking in years not months or weeks with this oil. i dont know actually but feel that this oil was like TG95 in youth. tg95 is still super ballsy and powerful, imagine first years... orsl for me is decadeS away from that magical place. again i dont know for sure but my observations and study of oils tells me this

I agree with you @Rasoul S. Although it seems to be developing quite nicely even with just a few months in my possession. I don’t know how it can get even more balls then it has not but I think it will become more seamless and integrated. To me the oil now dries down in completely different phases. I could be totally off on this but I think this may be because it’s so young.

i think the vapourous volatile top notes will quiet down. the angularity soften and overall the oil take a more rounded, nuanced shape. i mean eventually all things go that way. perhaps almost all things. tea. coffee. wine. whiskey... oud to so far based on my experience.

I’ve been replacing the air in my bottles with argon. At least the more precious ones, the duplicates that I intend to store for quite awhile, and the tola size bottles that I pour off from a gram at a time. I do it, obviously, to slow oxidation of the oils. But I wonder if the lack of oxygen will also interfere with desired aspects of maturing.

That’s a good question and I have thought about that as well. The question is what is the process by which maturation occurs? If oxygen is not involved, and I suspect it is not, then it should not interfere. Does the argon interact in any way with the oil? No idea. It’s an inert noble gas so in theory it should be passive but I do not know if that holds up in practice. Taha might have some thought on this.

@Larry K. @kesiro
in the world of wine we say oxygen is a friend and a foe. micro-doses is NEEDED and desired (hence barrel aging and oak being a great choice of wood for its subtle permeable nature) and also the reluctance to bottle age worthy wines (meant for decades of evolution) under screwtop or synthetic closures that greatly limit or eliminate oxygen transfer.

i myself based on regular and careful observation have come to see (thus far) that beast oils will actually benefit from the micro-oxidation. as such i will actually make a point of here and there opening my ORSL just to smell off vial and more importantly get some air in there. BUT when it comes to some delicate and also top note heavy oils with lithe nature and subtle base (lets say royal malinau, or lavanya...) i will be very careful to spray the bottle and limit the exposure.

then there are ouds like ahmad or TW or many marokes that i think are very well vaccinated against oxidation and as such dont really seem to matter what you throw at them.

of course all of the above needs longer testing and assessing.

Thanks Kesiro and Rasoul. Really interesting stuff about wines. And the maturation of wine is going on long after fermentation is over and the yeast is presumably dead. OTOH, anyone who has kept an open bottle very long knows the remaining wine isn’t going to be as good as the freshly opened wine was. Ullage is a killer with wine, and I’ve experienced, also with tiny bits of Oud in sample tubes. I guess I’ll be more persnickety with keeping the ullage small by transferring the whole contents to, say, a 2ml storage bottle and a 1ml use bottle-for the museum stuff. The daily use bottles won’t get any special treatment. I have a bottle of Nha Trang Ltd which I’m topping off with Bloxygen (argon) and it’s going into the safe deposit box. Not very scientific but it makes me feel like I’m doing something.

From Taha’s bouche: “Oxygen does 'fixing' when it's required. If there's nothing to fix (read: my home made oils) then it only does harm.
The second form of fixing is: inter-marrying of scent notes. Has nothing to do with oxygen. It's more about the compounds which were liberated and separated during distillation, coming back together and intertwining. This is 'true' aging.
For gen3 and senkoh it takes just a few months or so. Gen4 and sultan series longer. Other oils even longer coz oxygen-fixing is still required

 I must get some of this before it’s gone!
You really ought to.
I'll be the first to publicly recognize that I don't have much experience with Sri Lankan, but I love that ORSL seemingly has typical walla patta notes, yet with a woody and oudy backbone. That, for me, makes aaaall the difference. And for that price ?? ;) ;)

Glad you like it!
I tried it when I visited Rasoul and really enjoyed it. Missed the sale earlier this month, so it’s my bad

I didn’t and am so glad. I love this one. I have read about people claiming this will smooth out over time and I hope not. I love those high top notes!
I’m with you! My martial arts days are behind me but it’s nice to have an opponent who hits hard enough to earn your respect.
