Pure Musk Deer Grains

Is it possible to get pure Musk grains still or is everything on the market synthetic/charcoal now.

I am interested in buying a decent amount from an authentic wholesaler.

Salaam Alaikum Hassan, try Aluwwah.com the brother has real musk grains for sale. I trust him as do others! Also you should email brother Omar at agarscentsbazaar and request real musk grains, they are very good at returning emails and answering your questions and they (Aluwwah, agarscentsbazaar) are as generous and kind as Ensar. I haven't had any dealings with agaraura, but I hear that Taha is a very kind brother as well and I think he carries or carried real musk grains! So if any of those dont have musk grains maybe one of them will tell you where you can get them from a trustworthy person! Insha Allah you find some!

I once bought something from a friend who can no longer get hold of any. I got them cheaper naturally. I am interested in buy in bulk so I can give to friends and family aswell. Not to mention having a decent amount for myself for future use.

You will find that if anyone does carry Musk it will be in the form of a tincture. Musk is such a rare substance - ever rarer than quality oud that it is safe to say most people on earth have never smelt the smell of paradise. However some people are able to procure musk in grain form. I too would be interested in obtaining pure musk grains. I like the idea of having something in my house that I know the Prophet peace be upon Him had also. Something as exotic as it is rare.

I have Siberian Musk tincture from SMK Frangrance whom is only one of very few who are legally allowed to import the grains to the U.S. from Russia which is one of the few if not the only non signatory country to the treaty banning the hunting of Deer Musk. I was also one of few that received real Musk tincture from Profumo who obtained it 30 years ago in his travels in Hindu Kush area. http://www.profumo.it/perfume/prodotto.asp?pid=5220
He also has good articles about it:http://www.profumo.it/perfume/aromatherapy/essential_oils/muskdeer_1.htm
Since then, the unsavory nature of how the Musk is obtained has completely put me off it and I actually regret getting them. I would suggest to anyone to read up on the issue prior to rushing out there to get it for I do not think that the prophet (SAWS) would approve of threatening a species for extinction due to over hunting for the sake of smell no matter how exotic it is. I do not mean to offend anyone this is just strictly my thought.

I totally agree with Masstika on this one. It's been six years I don't acquire any (new) deer musk, since my spiritual guide officially forbade me from doing so. He said it would be oppression and destruction of Allah's creation, to kill the musk deer to extinction. I have a small batch of grains I had acquired prior to the Sheikh's injunction, which I've been steeping and resteeping in aged Mysore sandalwood with impressive results. Mandy Aftel writes in Essence and Alchemy that the mortar of Andalusian mosques would get admixed with deer musk, and you can still smell the musk when entering the mosques to this day! I certainly believe it, as I keep getting pretty much the same results by steeping and resteeping the same musk I had in 2004!

Another thing to note about musk is that its main use is as a fixative in perfumery; it is not meant to be smelled for its own scent as much as it is used for its alchemical effect on other aromatics. This is why it is known as one of the 'exalting fixatives.' It transforms everything as if magically, adding life and vibrancy to everything it touches. It is one of the main ingredients in my Borneo Zen parfum.

Well put you guys, and speaking of Borneo Zen, this is one of the most amazing fragrances I have ever smelled hands down! I'm not one that's into too much sweetness, but Borneo Zen and Pink Papua are other worldly figurative speaking! Borneo Zen has a jasminey accord that has captivated me along with the musk which is noticeable in intervals! My wife said this is a pleasant aroma and she is someone who uses perfumes like guess etc. Now she just told me that because of oud Yusha, De'angkor, pink Papua and Borneo Zen she is totally into oud and will ot be wearing that stinky stuff ( commercial perfumes) anymore. As for me I can now accept the sweeter things in life I.e my love for stinky ouds will be accompanied by the sweetness of Yusha and De'angkor!

I cant express my thoughts how I would like about Borneo Zen so all I will say is Zen it is! Very friendly mukhallats, which I am not allowed to wear outside haha!

True said all. I am for ethical production if only to keep the tradition alive. Musk has been used for thousands of years. 'Users of fine perfumery' are in the privileged position of coming into contact with oils and substances of legend. This privilege places a certain responsibility upon the user. Quality Oud, Musk, Ambergris, etc users are in the unique position to raise awareness of the massive problems that the industries face, be it the wholesale slaughter of wild musk deer or the over chopping of wild agar wood trees. Using these oils have such a profound impact on the wearer that he is compelled to educate himself on the why's and what's of the oil from ecology, biology, production to harvesting, producing, right the way to the etiquettes of wearing involving spiritual alchemy. In return I believe it is our responsibility to give something back. I fully support the work Ensar and others are doing at the moment regarding the preservation of Oud for future generations to enjoy. At the very least one should boycott maverick sellers and point out to others the wrongs being perpetrated in order to make money without a care for what may come after.

Hi im new to this forum this is my first post.

I have a few questions.

First
masstika i have the musk tincture from Profumo and the ultimate musk from Sharif and also tried Hamfirls so called musk oils but i dont think that any of these are the real musk i am looking for.
Maybe they really received a pod from a deer from siberia or anywhere else but maybe not from the real musk deer.
Maybe the real musk deer is so rare that this guys in russia or elsewhere hunt other deers from other species that also have those pods.
And with that possibility combined with the rarity of it, i believe it is extreme hard to find and get.
And who can today really claim to know how real musk smells like.
But i dont give up :)
You said that you have musk from SMK, is it similar to Profumos musk tincture? Or is it different?

Several years ago when i visited Al Madinah, i was able to visite the grave of Uthman Ibn Affan in Al Baqi graveyard.
I could smell a fragrance coming out of that grave that i never smelled in my entire life. No fragrance i smelled could even come close this.
So i decided to make tabarruk with the grave while my friends kept the guy waiting there busy. (By the way tabarruk is a allowed matter and it is confirmed and well knwon that Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal permitted it, see Al Ilal Wa Marifat Ar-Rijal).
The earth that came in contact with some pieces of my clothes took the fragrance and it lasted alsmost 5 years. Believe it or not i even washed them a few times and i was still able to smell it.
So my point is that i believe that this fragrance i smelld there and that was with me several years, is what musk smells like. I dont really know what it was but i think that it was musk.
One sentence to describe it, it was glowing.
I never smelled something like it ever again until i ordered "musk grains" from hamfirl. I was very upset when i saw that he actually send me something charcoalded.
Then i decided to take the cap of vial which contained the charcoal and i could smell a very light scent of what i smelled at Uthmans grave. Ver very light scent of it. But no scent of it in the grains or oil.
He didnt admit that he send me charcoal but later he decided to send me vials of his "musk oils". I checked them and their caps but didnt find anything.
The only one i did not test was his tonquin oil but its price is to high for testing since i already gave him money for sometihng i never really received and he didnt offer a sample.
As i said before, i didnt give up. Maybe some day i will find it or maybe if it became too rare not.

Regarding my second question :)

I read in the basenotes forum that Taha said that the best ambergris he had was the absolute from bruce SMK if i remember correctly.

So here is the question. Since i dont have that experience to distunguish and wealth to test all kinds ambergris available on the net i would like to know about your opinions regarding the comparison of that Ambergris of Bruce SMK, Qurashi (he has to expensive and a blue one), and one guy called douglas who was also mentioned by someone.

I tried Sharifs Ambergris White Gold and it was very sweet. Is this how rl good ambergris smells like?

Long post :)

Dear rising welcome to the discussion and I hope you'll find inspiration and answers to your questions here. SMK Deer Musk is much stronger, more animalic and more intense than Profumo's. Neither Sherif's nor Hamfirls are the real thing. They are more like approximation and nice blends and infusions. SMK musk is like rubbing your face in the underside of the deer for lack of a better description. The smell is like the smell we produce in the process of making love, Phermonal smell. It is a psychoactive smell that I can see enhances male virility. However, I have been to Medina just over a year ago and I can tell you with almost a 99.9% certainty that what you have smelled is not Musk. Musk by itself is actually over powering and not necessary pleasant. I know first hand that women do not like it or be near it when they are menstruating. I was told by someone who know first hand that the smell from those black grains in the musk sack when they are fresh could actually be so over powering as to make you gag. I would like to propose to you that I would send you a sample if you can promise me that you will not buy anymore Musk or encourage others to buy it. In fact I would ask that if you had some left after you've smelled it to pass it on to others with the same stipulation. I would do that to any one with the same stipulation. The aim here is to reduce demand and not encourage vendors to carry it. Personally I stopped using it. If you agree drop me a PM with address. Of course I am not going to be there to enforce your or others promise but I hope you would respect it if you care to make it.
SMK Ambergris on the other hand is phenomenal, just like smelling off the white caps of waves crashing on a sandy shore. It's very airy and light and very ethereal. Profumo has fantastic Ambergris. Adds a sparkle to anything it gets add to. I read that it is the equivalent of musk but to the female gender as a form of aphrodisiac. but again it is not a smell that you would wear by itself normally.

I understand what you mean but i think there was a misunderstanding.
I wanted to know how real musk from the real musk deer smells like.
Thats why i am searching :)
Regarding your offer, this it is very kind from you. I will pm you :)
You said that what i smelled was probably not musk. Did you visit Uthman?

Regarding my musk theory that maybe those pods and grains we receive are from other species of deer, i think it is possible unless someone can proof otherwise.

A knowledgable person told me that fresh musk from the musk deer is white.

Real Musk is a very potent animalic and if I can give it physical attributes, stony and a hard kind of smell. I love it mixed with other oils as it helps give them depth and bind the ingredients together in a more harmonious way.

We are told that The Prophet Muhammad piece be upon Him used to wear musk and it could be seen shining in his hair by his wife.
We also know that it is the smell of paradise and the sealed drinks of paradise are sealed by pure musk!
I wonder what the Prophet peace be upon Him used to wear?
Pure musk with what? Sandalwood or another carrier oil. The more potent the musk the more the smell is overwhelming. Did they wear it in a Mukhallat?

When it is said that it is the smell of paradise; are we talking about in its raw form or again as a base in other blends? What about the seals on drinks? Pure musk or a blend?

Maybe in the understanding of today musk is referred to as coming from the pod of a deer, maybe there are specific species which carry differnt kinds of musk. Maybe some spefies became extinct so that we wont see them and wont smell them. This is speculation but since we have no knowledge about this we dont know for sure if this we have today is the one in the time of the Prophet.

Regarding paradies, we knwo that there are fruits but the fruits here in this world cant come near those in paradies in taste and beauty.
So you speak of the musk in paradies not of the musk of this world

Hmm.. I have Ibn Al-Jawzi's Al-Wafa open in front of me. Looks like this narration does not have an isnad that can be traced back.
Very interesting about Ghawaliya though. I wonder if its been mentioned in other books, and if its ingredients have been specified. Would be neat to know what it smells like! : )
