I am not very much into EDP's and especailly not the Oud'y versions of them but I have came across 1 or 2 interesting and worth mentioning iterations. The first one is called Oud for Highness 75 by Krigler http://prostores4.megawebservers.com/krigler_com/-strse-158/OUD-FOR-HIGHNESS-75/Detail.bok I was intrigued by the story of it's creation since I always found the late king to be an interesting character. The scent profile fits in my mind the picture I painted him in, cavalry, gentleman like, bespoke, summer time suites and polo games.can't smell the oud in the classical way we smell it in the Oud oil but the whole composition fits that sophisticated look. They should disregard the "Oud" thing :p though. The second is more intriguing and quite beauitful. It is an Italian House by the name of Xrejoff and they have just released an Oud series called Oud Stars Collection http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/category/511/page/1/brand/Xerjoff.html the web site has a good discription of the scent profiles. I have managed to sample them. Here's quick notes on some of them; Mamluk is Bubble gum like, Amber and White Musk. Al Khatt is quite feminine, sweet with Orang-y and Safferon notes. Gao has an amazing sandalwood and white musk notes. I think the Discovery set is very much worth considering. http://www.luckyscent.com/shop/section/1/item/51136/brand/Xerjoff/Oud_Stars_-_Discovery_Set.html it is available also from Mn New York at https://minnewyork.com/perfumery/italy/oud-stars-discovery-set-by-xerjoff.html
One thing I can say is that the ingredients are all top tier and excellent. However, they are not necessarily overtly Oud-y but they sure are beautiful. One interesting aspect about the design of the bottle top is that it looks like the head gear worn by the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs of the Upper and lower Egypt http://liberallifestyles.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Religion-Egypt-12.jpg :)

I had heard about the Krigler somewhere and set out to find the store which is in a strange little kiosk in the bowels of the The Plaza Hotel. The woman who worked there was extremely helpful and being that she was from Japan we engaged in a lengthy conversation about kodo - the Japanese incense ceremony. This is a very refined western take on oud with the omnipresent honey/saffron/amber accords. However, this is far and away the best rendition of this style I have tried. The price is also reflective of quality but there is no hustle here as in so many ouds a la mode. I asked her where it was made and she told me that it was made in their lab in the sub-basement of the hotel which I found very amusing.

Ya Abdullah,

You have great taste, but it's a toss up between Pink Papua and Layli.

Can't wait to try something from Aloes of Ish when I get some money.

Aloesofish? A quarter tola of "Assam Agarwood Oudh oil, Dead Fall Grade 5A" for $60. I usually take the silly plunge on lower priced scents that are too good to be true but I am running out of room in the drawer they wind up in but I would love to hear feedback from some other brave soul.
