SOTD

Ensar's Santal Royale is the SOTD for me. I have always loved the scent of sandalwood but never thought it was wearable as a single scent. Too linear and un-dynamic. Mainly good in blending. Well, Santal Royale changes that, and big time. It is a heady concoction of many dimensions. It is truly perfume like. This is a manly santal, yet sublime. It is calming and uplifting, classy yet animalic at the same time. It is a masterpiece IMO.
It is definitely anything but linear, isn't it? One of my favorites. I actually liked it so much I bought a second bottle so I would never run out!

After a good morning/afternoon with Kambodi 1976, I had to shower up for a date with my wife, I went with Sultani for the evening/night. Talk about two powerhouses. Today was just a nasty weather day here on the southeast coast of the US with the hurricane bringing heavy rains and cooler temperatures all day. Both of those just seemed right for today.

I did just put a swipe of Taha's Chamkeila, nice stuff!

It is Taha's Lalitya today. This to me is like a perfume. There is no denying the absolutely unique Taha style. This is such an ethereal scent. It is a very uplifting scent.

Hello everyone! I have Feel-oud's Purple Koh Chang on today. This is a very nice Cambodi. It develops a lot from first application. A lot of dried fruits and quite creamy. Nice oil!

Kyarazen - Cambodia Classic. This arrived today. I only have a couple of young Cambodi oils which are nice but this is a very different compared to those. Very dark, thick and sticky. Have only sampled a little bit so unable to elaborate but we already like this one a lot!

Oud Yusuf this evening. Very nice indeed. My first full bottle purchase. It got the madness started for me!
Oud Yusuf, i apportioned three 1gm doses from my original bottle. I've already used two, the last 1gm has been retired, vaulted.

Great oil! Definitely a perfect one to start with and great for any occasion.
Absolutely. It shouldn't scare anyone away. But I find I still like it just as much, maybe even more, despite having so many others added since then. And you are right about any occasion, heck last night I was donating blood at a blood drive we sponsored, take that for any occasion!

Great idea PEARL. I probably should consider doing that with some of my oils. What type of bottle do you use for those last 1gms?

Usually from a 3gm sturdy bottle I leave 2gm in sturdy bottle and remove with sterile blunt tip needle 1gm into a sample type vial for wearing. With Yusuf I left 1gm in sturdy bottle and did two 1gm sample vials for wearing. I'd like to get some high recovery v-vials, I see several vendors using them now.

I just tried Sultan Sufyan from EO. This is some big dark stuff. This IS the smell of burning agarwood wood chips. No jammy notes, no fruity smell. Just the vapor of burning wood. Looks like it is going to have some staying power!

I totally agree with your description of Sultan Sufyan brother

I am glad someone else had a chance to try this! I wonder how some years of maturing will affect this oil. It is a monster right now! The best analogy is like a young Bordeaux cabernet that benefits from some cellaring. You can enjoy it now but only gets better with age.

I agree with you on Sultan Sufyan! What an amazing oil. This is Oud Royale 1985 in its early twenties. Imagine what this will be like 10,15,20 years from now?

Ahhh! You guys are killing me, I've tried to place myself on a self-imposed buying hiatus, but this is becoming T-O-R-T-U-R-E!!! :)

It's hard isn't it? I tried to go that route as well, but then Taha released King Koh Kong and Ensar released several new oils that are must haves...

Oh and SOTD today was Ensar's Oud Dul Q. An excellent organic oud. It may be my favorite or a close second to Jing Shen Lu. I get a lot of incense with a dark fruit in the background. It's starts of like Aroha Kyaku, but stays strong on the incense whereas Aroha Kyaku turns green.
