Today's swipe was Jing Shen Qi, from the generous sample sent to me. I went to my salon to get my hair done, and my stylist asked what I was wearing. I showed him the site and am hoping his sticker shock is overcome by the beauty he sensed. I am feeling wonderful today, between the pampering and the enlightenment this gorgeous substance brings as I wear it.

a big lunch, super hot day and nirvata as well as muana royale on me were a lethal combo and against getting any work done. i was almost half asleep but needed to get stuff done. i went for a double espresso, something i only take in the morning and never mid afternoon. didn't quite do the trick. i look around to see what i have in my desk drawer to help and shazzzaammmm: a sample vial of 2012 pursat by EO. a swipe on the upper lips and bam.... i am wired!!! eyes wide open, heart beating faster and vigor coming back.

blind i would have said a northern malay. i see the green of hirta and the rainbow of beccariana at work here along with malaccensis. not the first time i am seeing a cambodi oil as malay. not TW95 or TWR malay but more ayu, purple kinam (minus the kinamic note). some cola nut notes and candied flower petals.

is it a species thing? distillation similarities? @Ensar

back to the oil. bitter core. thru and thru. extra terrestrial florals. purple flower. candied flower. incense, spice and oud resin depth. good amount of high toned diffusive notes but ample heart and base notes here too. a complete oil. the cola nut note is to my nose unmistakable and its strength so pronounced that it made me go malay.

Very interesting that you pick up a Malaysian vibe in the Pursat! Might be the similar distillation parameters and the geographical proximity, though I must admit I don't see any Ayu or PK in this at all. Those oils lack bitterness and a raw, naked woodiness which this has in scores. There's no medicinality in Purple Kinam, whereas this is benchmark 'medicinal' category oud. Might it just be that you were super tired, and the psychological effect it had was similar to an effect you'd experienced earlier in the other (Malaysian) oils?

No doubt about the bitter core of pursat (is arguably textbook oil to teach what is bitterness) and its lack of in other two mentioned oils. Also you are bang on about medicinal notes of pursat and again the total lack of it in pk, ayu...

I went back to all 3 oils mentioned here and I picked up what is common with all 3: cola nut and almost sprite/cream soda note (think subtle clove)

Least in pk, most in ayu, in the middle in pursat.

While on the topic, do you happen to know the name of the terpene responsible for the cola nut/soda note? Just curious.

Scent of the day almost every day these days is a muana oil in one form or another. Muana royle again today. So lovely. So elegant and pristine. Warming, inviting, kind, generous and soft spoken. An oil that talks to you with a james earl jones like voice and presence. Calming.

Every bit precious as kinam note. Muana is a thing of beauty.

needed an oil last night that didnt mess around. a powerful, full throtle, top to bottom, bottom to top glowing and projecting kind of oil with deep deep incense note and massive drydown while having equally perplexing top notes. purple kinam would have worked. but need to preserve my tiny stash of it. ditto kyara ltd 2.0, or sultan ahmet. but instead i went for arguably the most affordable oud that still does all the above: Oud Royale Sri Lanka!

if all other sri lankan oils i have smelled to date are solo performances of a single musical instrument (which is also super awesome and beautiful in its own way) then ORSL is all coming together for a big jam session.

started the day with imperial oud ambergris mysore maceration from couple of years ago. wanted the oceanic, blue green note to carry on but also was craving incensy, ark wood notes. so abdus selam went on as well. like GP and very few other oils, this beautiful co-distillation never disappoints. always delivers on expectation and in fact at times exceeds it. such a lovely oil. great tenacity and oomph but in a quietly spoken manner. think the rock or Bruce Willis of back in the day but in a conservative suit. sumba perfume is there but morphed into something deeper darker more incensy. fans of green papua, archinam, archipelago,... will be all over this beauty i am sure.

Swiped FO Sri Lankan Artisan

I feel like EO ORSL and FO SLA are Husband and Wife.

Nice oil!

Update......
I now have on, a swipe of a very annoying oil:mad:
Oud Mostafa 5....I can’t stop sniffing it:)
I have no idea of the intrinsic notes in this oil, but I can soar in the heavens of pure agarwoodiness or wrestle in the barnyard mud till people run away from me:p
I will admit though......that I have been through many phases of oud enjoyment,,,,from riding the Borneo Train, to being All Malaysian, to searching for Holy-Grail Hindis, and going Whack-O for Tobacco.

MY SOY: Scent of yesterday: EO's Monsieur Oud!

I personally look at fragrances in two ways, the first is to appreciate the harmony of the entire accord, the whole of the aroma being greater than the sum of its parts, and the second way which can be more fun is to pick apart every little detail and the individual notes within.

I think we all enjoy picking apart an oud or perfume, and Monsieur Oud is an enjoyable specimen. Great for warmer days, it opens with a tropical citrus-melon osmanthus fusion, that transitions seamlessly into an alluring draw-you-to-the-skin frangipani bouquet with a base of brute pheromones buzzing all the while in the background.

And when the body heats up, you'll feel the projection amplify; sending frangipani, orange and coffee blossoms not to mention the pheromone umph into the air like a cool-breeze through an orchard in full bloom!

archinam this afternoon:

funny how it all comes down to comparing oils to a benchmark without intending to. in this case the mighty awesome green papua.

if GP is in the center of the axis, midori is on the far left with above canopy scent, meadows and a nod to kinamantan, while archinam is to the far right of the axis with forest floor, thicker darker greener canopy, hint of oud royale 5 and port moresbey (facet of its scent not its energy adn pure bliss inducing qualities).

if you are looking for a darker, fuller, richer, deeper green papua, archinam is the right fit. delish. and that dry down... my o my....
