Mesmerizing initially then progressing to Wasabi, japanese horeradish cream.

Dhul Q, Wasabi.

Jungle Kinam, Wasabi

Mysore 1984, Wasabi

Black Changoh, Wasabi

Aroha Kyaku, Wasabi GOD HELP ME

It goes on. and on.

Only a very, very few escape the curse of sushi on my skin now.

I can only conclude that Covid19 has fragmented my sense of smell especially regarding the most wonderful drops of art on the planet.

I cannot begin to state how sad this makes me. I will no longer swipe a drop a day, it is pearls before a swine now. Oink.

One thing for sure, perfume seem to be unaffected. I think I will go Leather attar, perhaps try Homeros, they seem to mostly be understood correctly by my damaged senses.

@Ensar Oud

I am truly sorry.

You know the guy who went out to look at the cherry blossoms, arguing that he only had a finite number of springs to look at them to his name.... I recently made a conscientious decision that with a finite number of breaths available I'd want nearly all of them to be filled with Guallam.
Wow, that’s a big statement. I’ve held off on that one because I already have a pretty good supply of Kinam Rouge and have had quite the love affair with it...now I’m thinking again...

Went with the incredible oud Mostafa today. A Hindi oil with a chinese twist. Very masculine.

Man I tell you what....I’ve never been a huge Hindi fan but that’s a deep deep oil, especially at the price point. My next order will have some more of that in it for sure.

I love Chugoku Senkoh too. It was a real stroke of genius to combine Chinese and Indian oil. They complement each other perfectly. It’s like a Black and Tan....which I can say from my memory prior to becoming Muslim haha.

Is it similar to Chugoku Senkoh? I wanted to get Chugoku Senkoh but was too late.

Similar yes, although Chugoku was perfectly balanced, to the point that some nights I put it on and smell the Chinese side of it more prominently, other times the Hindi personality steps slightly in the foreground. Mostafa is slightly more on the Hindi animalistic side of things.

This is the No. 1 you’re referring to, right? How would you say you were able to supersede Kinam Rouge which is in its own right a nearly perfect Vietnamese oil? Or is it a totally different approach?

Actually, I was referring to the entire spectrum of Vietnamese agarwood; starting with Nha Trang LTD, which is for me the pinnacle of not only Vietnamese but ALL oud, onto the profile of Kynam No 1, the Anthole batches, Betonamu Senkoh, and Royal Guallam, Guallam No 1, etc.

To my nose, Kinam Rouge is the epitome of what Cambodian oud ought to smell like. :eek:o_O:cool: The scintillating redness, with the spicy tobacco, red kinam reminding me of the best of Pursat & Kampot. It's crazy that this is from Vietnamese stock! It is in every way a perfect oil, and as such it transcends geographic boundaries or definitions. Once something transports you to the realm of pure art... soil composition and political boundaries become irrelevant, secondary considerations.

It's the best Cambodian smell that was ever extracted from Vietnamese materials—dare I say ANY materials? o_Oo_Oo_O

Jazak Allah Khair for the context, Sidi. Now since I have your ear let me bother you for one more LOL. There were two Hainan and one Yunnan offering in the recent batch of Oriscent Legends. Gun to your head, don’t think about it, just the first answer from your heart, what’s your favorite of the three?

Hainan Kinam and Yunnan Kinam are a wee bit 'grander' in stature to Hailam LTD, both raw-materials and profile-wise.

There is one other aspect of oud that is not directly related to the grade of wood or style of distillation, and that is the enjoyment factor. (Kinda like a creamy well-aged Mysore is more enjoyable than the prettiest rose or sublimest blue lotus.)

Enjoyment-wise, I much prefer Hailam LTD.
Style-wise I’d take Hainan Kinam (Hainanified Kyara LTD—need I say more!?).
Grade of raw materials and sheer rarity-wise, I’d go with Yunnan Kinam.

There you have it.

It bears keeping in mind... All these oils are $5,000 ticket Oriscent legends. The distinctions I described above are minor differences that amount to splitting hairs. :)

JAK again. I can’t tell you how cool it is to be able to chat about oud with you. At the risk of being too overtly flattering, it’s like an art collector being able to ask Picasso what the Weeping Woman was weeping about.
