Absolutely! I saw a pic of Taha's face and eye and it does not look good. I have been praying for him and a quick recovery.

Had a chat with him last night and he sounded very down and tired. Told him to have a good rest and put everything down for the time being. Hope he will recharge and be back feeling better than ever!

@John thank you for sharing this news. It is good to remember the toil and risk that the wood hunters and distillers experience. Physical, not just financial, risks. I hope that medical care is decent wherever Taha happens to be, and that he recovers physically and emotionally, fully and quickly. All the best to you Taha.

Thanks all, for your prayers and well wishes! I am very touched.

Okay, so a lot of folks have been asking what exactly happened, I’m sure it sounds weird (and yes, I can promise you, it is very weird).
For the sake of discouraging this from happening to anyone else who might get ideas and decide to try this themselves, I won’t share the whats, hows, and whys.
But the result was an explosion. Busted glassware, upside down pot, raw material all over the floor…. and the left side of my face (and left eye) got deep fried in hot oil.

For one day I could not use my left eye. Amazingly, the very next day, despite the pain I could. I had jokingly remarked to someone that maybe oud (medicinal after all) might actually fix my eye disorder.
Even more amazingly… it might actually be true?! As I stated a while ago, I have a degenerative eye disease which the doc told me leads to blindness (my uncle and mother’s cousin both have it, and both are close to blind now). This is one of the reasons why I’ve been working like a madman, I know I don’t have as much time as most people map out for themselves career-wise.

Any how...

So NOW, the vision in my left eye (the one that got hit) is WAY better than my right eye. Not sure how to explain it but perhaps, considering the hardiness of oud oleoresin (as any vendor or distiller who has gone through several rounds of emptying bottles can attest to), it might be polymerization of oud that did it.
Went into the eye, filled in the gaps in my cornea that developed during the years of degeneration, polymerized, hardened, and ‘fixed’ the issue.
This is all just theory of course.
I still haven’t been to the hospital yet. I generally don’t like going to hospitals, and haven’t been to one (for myself) in around 14 years or so. I think I’ll have to make an exception for this though.
Ironically, the last time was after an accident too. :p

Glad your feeling better Taha . Perhaps you should try and make some agarwood/hydrosol eye drops and use it once a day for your eyes maybe you found a cure for your condition and others, how amazing .

I just noticed the existence of the thread now, and can't really think of anything appropriate to say.

.....glad you had your horrific accident so your eyesight improved?!!?

Right, off I go to slam my buckfast addled head in a car door a dozen times for good measure.

I doubt that will ever be written on the inside of a hallmark card. In all seriousness, apart from the pain you must have been in I am glad your eyesight is improved and that it might be possible to replicate one day safely with anaesthetic (if you dare!) with the remaining eye. I realise this was a freak accident but it might very well be worthwhile flagging this to researchers if the improvement is long lasting or permanent as far as you can tell.

I certainly hope that the discomfort is completely gone in that eye both from the accident and your condition!
