Who here is into burning Tibetan incense? I know YouNight is. The smell takes me back to a Buddhist Center I once frequented many years ago. A powerful earthy and herbal aroma, dense, and pervasive. I recently burned some sticks that came as samples from Essence of the Ages, and I got hooked and want some more.

Before I purchased some, I wondered if anyone had some strong recommendations?

Thanks, Kakao. Going to order some Holy Land right now :)

I'm curious about the "musk" ingredient in many of these incense. It can't be deer musk. I wonder what it is.

All three of those incenses I recommended do contain real deer musk.
It's a very important part of high-end Tibetan sticks.
They also use the scales from the Pangolin in their incenses, which is another not well-known animal extract.

You are right, Kakao. I was just reading up on Tibetan Incense some more, and they do use real deer musk. I guess there are no laws or acts preventing this in Tibet? They must go through a lot of musk!

When you receive your Holy Land; in addition to properly igniting the sticks, try crushing one and warming the powder on your electric heater.
To me, the absence of the smoke (and not over-heating the incense) allows for many more subtle nuances of the blend to be enjoyed. Notes that I've never been able to detect from the ignited sticks are my absolute favorite part(s) of Holy Land.
I get a fresh, warm bready note that makes me want to just bury myself within the powder.
I wish I could find some Holy Land in powder form, to make it easier, but it's such a wonderful incense that it's well-worth the effort.

Warmed powder is my favored way to experience Samye, Highland, and TBC's "Nectar", too.
