What's on your burner today?

That sounds nice Oudramatic!
I have never tried camphor and agarwood together, except in in Japanese incense sticks.
The agarwood is soaked in an aged ambergris and musk tincture.

Have any of you guys tried the new offerings from Aluwwah?
Bakhoor Majlis and Black Pine dragon?
They look interesting, but I haven't tried them yet.

I'm burning some Kun Sho from Baieido.
They are made from Cambodian aloeswood and they rock!
Not a room scent, but an incense you must sit and carefully "listen" to.
Gentle and never harsh, some nice spices and herbs are also added, but this incense is really all about the wood.
I would recommend it to everybody with an interest in Japanese incense.

I've just discovered a unique species of agarwood tree by the border of Brunei. It has the most intoxicating agarwood aroma I've ever experienced, kyara included! I'm calling it Brunei Kyara, for lack of a better name. (And no, you can't have any!) :p

Heeyyy not fair!!!

However Khao Yai and Black Frankincense (Mughsayl, Oman) hit the coal today

What do you mean by new species? a new Aquilaria sub-species? Can you share a picture? so I can imagine the smell in my head :(

I got my Oudimenaty Yemeni burner and it is a beauty. http://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/m622/masstika1/Burners/P1050916.jpgI have a small piece of Agaraura Burmese sink grade on the coal. spicy and dry hay like scent. very centering. Presently hovering over a crushed piece of gently-warmed white ambergris, and listening to this LP:

Tonight is a trilogy combination on the Japanese charcoal; first lies the sink grade bubbling Borneo chip, a shard of Sandalwood shaving and green Frankincense all in the Tarimi burner...bliss

Also, I saw those nice burners from Enfulrage/Oman made by local Omani dohfar region women. 224.jpg and 225.jpg

Nice, masstika!
That sounds like a great trio of goodies to burn. Enjoyed the footage, too. =)

"Good choice for an LP, YouNight"

Thanks, man. Seemed to fit the experience of burning a drab-looking substance (such that white ambergris is), and having the aura of an aromatic rainbow rising from it, once the warmth hits. =)

Burning Sandalwood and Ambergris cones made by Ross.
Really great and potent scent, bordering on the decadent.
Gonna burn a stick of Seijudo Enju later which I got as a gift from Ross.
Will be my first time with a Kyara stick.
Gonna drink a spiced assam tea together with it.

What does it mean when you have the front of the chip looking like this P1050947.jpg and the back looking like that P1050948.jpg ? is that an indication of plantation oud vs. wild harvested?

It means some one forgot to paint the underside ; ) ...Just kidding...Must await word from the resident experts...Wanted to add a question to that if I may..What does it mean if agarwood somewhat burns / stings the eyes / nose when burnt?

Actually tonight was a great session of Oud. I had received my shipment of Ensar Oud Brunei Exquisite recently and i have been eager to try it. First I have to commend the guys at Ensar Oud there for the new delivery time, literally 3 days via DHL express service and for the new packaging (slick black silky covered box...nice touch). View attachment 188 and here's a closer look at the chips View attachment 189 . nice resin pattern and some surface sheen. The package came with a sample of something amazing called Kyaratul Brunei View attachment 190 that challenged to knock the king super I have. So I started with it and when i broke off a most amazing thing I found inside the wood. It looked like a small seed View attachment 191 and when burned it didn't smell like wood but rather like Jasmine! The wood itself was resinous (dark brown on red brown background). The scent was Cinnamon-y and raisn-y with deep sweetness with light accent of nutmeg. When inhaled it hit the frontal sky of the mouth and penetrates the sinus area. around the eyes giving amazing relief around the head. The scent calms the mind but activate the body, very good for meditation. I literally "hear" the chips crackling lightly as the surface starts shimmering w/ oil residue. Not a lot of bubbling but has a copious amount of delicious scent :) Ensar might not like this but this Chip is like Thaqeel in all the good meaning of Theqeel in people's mind or the original Oud Royal, meaning this is an old, very old Oud and it makes you respect it's presence. This might be a private stach and I am not sure if it will be for sale. That led me to pull the last small piece of the Oudline King Super that I had left stached for such a moments View attachment 192 to compare. I still would have to say it is a draw but I'll let you guy at Ensar Oud be the judge of that. when you have an amazing Ouds woods like those it is very difficult to go down even to good Oud like the Brunei Exquisite but that's what I did. It is still very good wood. The scent is like roasted nuts with lots of coffee and slightly burnt sweet syrup. Medium to heavy density wood and slow burning resin but very steady and burns over a long period of time compared to the size of the chip. this is a chip to scent one self and to enjoy even though that it imparts the nice smell all over the room. The after burnt smell is so calming and centering. very nice.

Were you burning chips that you know were pure when this happened?

Masstika, those attachments for some reason aren't showing? Is any one else able to view them?

Yes Oudiferous, twice with sinking grade wood from different countries and once with Baieido wood

Nope. All agarwood resin is formed like that. A thin dark layer that forms a circular pattern inside the trunk, with lighter-colored resin on the inside. The dark layer is the incense-grade, the light layer is the oil grade side of the resin formation, which you can see they've tried to chisel out so that you don't get a burning wood smell when heating the chips. What this means is that the tree was cut too soon for the resin to fully develop into incense-grade wood, and should have been allowed to mature further. In the case of a wild tree, it is not always easy to tell how old the tree is or how resinated inside; nor can the hunter be sure he'll find the same tree standing again, which is why he's proceeded to harvest.

Thank you!

It means the hunters have used Crazy Glue when cleaning the wood to piece together shapes that were accidentally broken during harvest. I pinch my nose the minute that happens, and tell the hunter a word or two about killing people for the sake of showing them nicely-shaped wood. It makes me particularly furious. Even the smoke of clean chips can't be too good for you when you inhale directly from the burner. Especially with the amount of evaluating one has to do, burning slithers from literally every single chip before we accept it, the last thing we need is a dose of Crazy Glue vapors along with it!
