I would really like to know.

How long does a wee bottle last you?

And also if you could post how many bottles you will need for your lifetime stash, that would be swell.

For reviewing an oud or for solitary edification which happens every day of my life I just use one good swipe on my philtrum, half on my bearskin and half on my bareskin.

For date nights or when the whim takes me when I head out the door I use at least 4 bold swipes.

I think that for me a lifetimes supply will be roughly 350 3ml bottles, around a litre as I intend to go full on h+.

If you think I have underestimated then feel free to correct me!

A half swipe on the bearskin? I'm circumcised so I can't do that..

Now, how much oud do I need? Not sure - but I don't think I'm there yet! There's also the question of not only quantity but also variety - imagine only having one oud (especially if it's from Ajmal), that wouldn't work..

Totally true! I'm not there yet either. Plus I seriously hope to pass some down to my boys, they are already showing interest. I like to swipe freely and regularly, if I'm able.

I think I would be happy with 365 bottles of 3ml for a life time supply. With 70% being Pure Oud, 20% Oud Blends and 10% Other Oils. Might need a few tola of the ones I love too much! Otherwise I think that will do the trick, one oil for each day and you get to smell different everyday throughout the year!

That's a really beautiful idea.

Sadly, I have my favourites so I probably will not have one a day but I do certainly plan to have several to have a few shades of each season.

Man that is a tough question. Some oils i guess you want to try and use less often and other more frequently but i love that you apply heavy amounts!!!

I think I fall exactly between the polar opposites of Taha who uses a bottle a day and Ensar who is able to enjoy fully at almost a homeopathic dosage.

How much do you use, examples please?

Ha well this morning i put on 7 drops of the King Koh Kong! I like to apply heavy depending on the oil and this one i think really suits it if i was to apply say Sultan Sufyan i say i would go for 3 or 5 drops although i need to do more investigation : )

I would love to apply that much every application too in order to project sillage.

@John: I find it interesting that you wrote you are applying drops instead of swiping...I also prefer to let the drops "fall" from the applicator stick tip onto the back of my hand (I just touch the skin with the outer rim of the drop, so the oil flows down naturally without the stick coming into contact with skin cells). IMHO, a good way to avoid contamination of my precious oils.

It seems to me that oil sillage and projection varies widely. I wonder what factors contribute to some oils having explosive projection???

I think I'd be good with having a collection of 7-8 oils, 2 tolas each and various samples.

Hey Robert, i've been thinking about this question and here is the math I came up with:
.1 ml is around 3 swipes.
30 swipes per ml
90 swipes per 3ml bottle
For the sake of math lets round up to
100 swipes per 3ml bottle.

Estimated longevity: we'll say 40 years (at least for me)
40 * 365 = 14,600 days
14,600 days divided by 100 swipes per bottle = 146 bottles.
This math is only valid if you do one swipe a day. Double it for two. So your 350 is very close, and allows you to go overboard more if you wish. I only have around 30 bottles though, 120 to go, huhuhuhuhuhu :/

Thank you for your guesstimate, it's very appreciated.

However, this to my mind is cutting it very close for me, I don't want to ration myself to just one or two swipes per day.

I may have to revise my estimate much higher. Assuming I am applying for projection or longevity then 4 swipes a day would be reasonable therefore I should be aiming for no less than 2 litres for a truly lifetime supply.

Just as well that I am currently looking for a job to start in a month as I really am going to need it.
