Decided with a more playful oud this morning. L’essentiel Cambodgien. A unique take on a tutti frutti style cambodi oil in that is does not posses much of any red profile. Instead, it is way more heady in the white flower category. And it is a record oud for me for the low cost oud category. It is an absolute beast in terms of longevity. It is now almost 16 hours in. After a surgical scrub, 30 mins in a hot tub and multiple hand washings, it is still going strong. Way strong Just blows my mind. This is crazy potent juice. At this rate, my bottle will last several lifetimes.

Hun Yin is like taking an engine apart, then extracting the motor oil sludge, then through alchemy, turning it into a Regal Oud.
Deep dark jungle with a hint of dark green foliage, a tiny bit of cream, a whisper of fruits, but mainly, a bucketful of oudh vapor rising from hot coals, but without the acrid part of the smoke. I imagine that if I were Arabian, I would put on a very big swipe, and feel confident that I exude a most pleasing aroma to share with the people around me.:D

Old School Kinam by FO today (Private). I am left speechless by this elixir brother Adam has created. Honestly, the name had pulled me towards it and of course the superb pricing. But, It was exposure to Adam's talent prior which really made me acquire it and after testing it for a long time I can say he has NAILED IT. Capturing a dark creature like Kyara with non-kyara woods (Assam + Burma). Now, that's pretty impressive. After having hated Kyara initially and then literally being hooked to its pure crisp aroma, I can say with a fair share of experience this Oil spoke to me finally. Intense piercing incense aroma initially turning reminiscent of green kyara chips' smell at room temperature. Then slowly turning sweeter, slight touch of vanilla and finally ending with the bittersweet magical unitone of Kinam. And its nothing like I have ever sniffed before. 500USD/3ml. I think this is a legend right here. Sorry for the leniency with description but this is an astonishing oil.

@Nikhil S -that sounds like an awesome oil. Adam has done some amazing things.

This morning was Kekasihku. This oil is totally different now then when I first got it 2-3 months ago. It was somewhat light and closed down. It is now an explosive gorgeous perfume scent of the most delicate Brunei Oud gently heated. Just beautiful sweet wood incense smoke with white flowers blooming throughout.

During the day, it has been swipes of Oud Mostafa no. 5. An oud you just cannot go wrong with, ever. Still one of my faves.

And lastly, supposedly the DHL eagle is coming to the neighborhood tonight, so there may be one more to try today..;):)

@kesiro I am beginning to enjoy Merokes and other intense oils. Probably the weather is helping me now. The air is light and crispier in winters. Time to revisit my XLL today. One of my friends I shared this oil with has gone bonkers on it. His experience with Ouds is superb and XLL spoke to him like a mysterious whisper. He was in a trance with it lol. And I am waiting for a patient listening. These guys make oils or magic ? Tough to say :).

Awesome Nikhil! I am going to put up my take on the Merauke thread put up by Rasoul when I get a chance.

Today for me is Sultan Suleyman. Where some oils gradually morph into the blue oceanic scent, this one starts off with it and just keeps going. The scent is very pure and to me is in the aquamarine territory. Malaysian wood was supposed to be be part of the co-distil with Gyrynops, but I confess that i am not yet able to fully tease out what I would consider obvious Malay oud notes. The oil has a perfumy character. It does seen to have a faint resemblance to Sultan Ahmet although I cannot yes explain why I think that. Sniffing it just made me think of Ahmet. This oil is much more vibrant though. Pristinely clean and fresh notes. As with all the Sultan oils I have tried, they are like a rubics cube and definitely demand time and study to fully appreciate.

Night Swipe....EO Nhek 1976.....best Cambodi sniffed till date. Barny Opening like a Cambodi distilled by an assamese old timer, dry down is of unmistakably Pursat fruits but any of those modern fast food Oud that many are selling. Signature Ensar finesse in this. You can pick it up straight from the cap. His best oils have this feel. I have a smaller vial. Will save for a full bottle. Thanks to him. Modern Cambodis do nothing for me

The first time was epic with this, 2nd was horrible, third time epic again. I don't know how blue cheese smell like dear bro but I love the barny opening because I know what to expect later on :) I have a lot of Cambodi oils with me but only a couple truly Vintage have this bit. The drydown is charming. Lovely oil. No off notes, no rough edges. Great tenacity. Master's job. There's no dark aspect to this one which I crave from complex oils but it has it's predictable shifts. The change of gears is ultra-smooth. That's where this shines for me. That greasy forest honey from usual Cambodis causes discomfort. This one is bliss.

terrific. i will find the courage one of these days to put it on skin again and try best to get past the blue cheese and report back. as for blue cheese in particular see if you can source some stilton (UK) or roquefort (france). two king of cheeses but both very very very strong, funky, medicinal, penicillin, and salty.

Yeah for sure thank you. I love cheese. But my favorite is the one which has a soft rubbery consistency. It's like a dice instead of a slice. I don't know what it's called but damn I love it. Ahahaha.

EO Sultan Leather today. It's an Oud dominated attar. The rose is very dusty, sultry like deep red petals roasted to black. It's neither crisp nor creamy. A huge dose of sweet musty balsamic amber in the opening. Mid is faux leather accord created by the Oud. Oud is contributing majorly to the incense leather here highly reminiscent of Aroha Kyaku. The sweetness is balanced by soft creamy barny Ambergris. None of the flowers really come out ever. An extremely well blended attar which gives the feeling of "something complex" in here. Soothing to the nose. Good projector. Good tenacity. It's got the charm of antique perfumes. It doesn't excite me nor does it calm me down. But it does put me in a cozy bubble of natural perfume which I most certainly enjoy.

SOTD:
Imperial Oud Mukhdir (2016 malaysia):
sadly a sold out oil but one that there is a 2018 version of it coming out.

my first impression off the applicator stands. on the skin this oil displays the same dna of purple kinam and ayu but more integrated, toned down and not as powerful (i actually like that). it is not super quiet but in comparison sits closer to the skin. we are talking monster oils that a tiny dot goes a long way when talking purple kinam and ayu.

is not the first time i see flashes of walla patta in malay oil. there is a blue green citrus zest, mildly sweet bitter and purple flower note to this oil. totally clean. no pot notes, animal, barn or sour notes. there is even flashes and subdued notes of that bitter green blue note one finds in ensar sultan oils like abdus selam. a teaser and not present in every whiff. not as addictive or tightly coiled but still a very grounding yet uplifting oil. one of the finest imperial oud offerings if i may say so. i love it and i really wish i had a full vial. bravo imperial oud brothers.

scent of mid day:
since my mukhdir swipe was a tiny one (all i had was 0.1gram), i felt the need to go for a second swipe and swipe a blind oil from oils kept outside my main rotation:

al shareef rubai'e is what i pulled blind:
an oil that smelling from applicator only gives you a 1/10th of the experience. one needs to wear it and then pay lots of attention to it. this oil is a blend of wood from 4 different regions and the distillation set up previously ran a kinam distillation and itwasn'tt cleaned as to not waste those precious notes. sources are vietnam laos indonesia and malaysia. the opening today is more laos and malaysia. a mix of the leather, rose potpurri and mildly barn/animal intertwines with dried fruit like prunes and molasses. a hint of cooling menthol/camphor note keeps the oil fresh and playful. a rich, thick oil that clings to your sinuses and a little bit goes a long way. i am hoping the animal/rose gets subdued (personally i am not big fan of those notes however gorgeous they are) and more of the camphor vanilla ambergris and woody incense-y notes to come out in the evolution and the dry down. a very unique and complex oil. the shareef house signature is all over it.
