Sotd: Hainan Arabi (Feel Oud)
This can easily be called Black Magic. Those two words that brother Adam has chosen describe the scent perfectly. Off the stick this doesnt smell like something you would expect. Sharp industrial. DONT JUDGE a book by its cover. When put on skin this turned into salty cheese the most buttery animalic Oud you ve ever sniffed. Then let the hainan magic do a number on your nose. It turns foresty green smoky leather ultimately turning into a creamy rosy honeyed oud. Hahaha. I was shellshocked. This is Oud trickery. New level of complexity in my experience. Bravo brother Adam. The opening is so diary like Laotian thick to the core. I am shocked.

You are right on Nikhil. It you just try the H.A. from the applicator stick, you would not have much of a favorable take. But the way it evolves is so seductive. Really good stuff!!

Thanks for the confirmation brother. I applied it twice to make sure my nose was not fooling me :). Great stuff indeed. And price too well.

Today is Syed's Succor and Syed's Mahabali. I just love these living room distillations from Taha. Oleoresins rule today. Medicinal, calming, focus enhancing combo. As an enormous fan of the traditional Hindi profile ouds, this barn without the barn style of Mahabali is such a killer Hindi variation. Dark cherries, dried fruits and spices, along with an animalic heart makes this a deeply satisfying oud experience.

I think when I get home, I am going to have to do a small swipe of Chiem Po Chai.
What a blessing all these wonderful Oud's are to experience.

Sounds awesome Doc! I hope you are feeling better! I think Hindi Oudhs do wonders when one is not feeling well! :)

.
I feel much better! Thanks brother! No doubt a good Hindi helps but I had the great fortune of early DHL delivery of the Sultan Leather Attar from EO. DAAAAAAANNNNNGGGGGGGG!!
Wow is this gorgeous!! There is something in this oil so uniquely appealing I can't stop sniffing my wrist. I have been nearly a 100% Oud guy for a long time (with very few exceptions) but this fragrance will definitely give my ouds a much needed break.

*sigh* such a tease... :(
Cumingiana-what? Now this one I'm curious about...What sets it apart from other sub species in terms of tree identification & scent profile?

I agree Humid weather really brings out the Oud Profile , I noticed Crisana Species comes out different in Western Humid Condition , I tested Same Oud in Bangladesh with Eastern Humidity and totally different profile comes out , but when Hindi Oud is used in -35  , totally different profile comes out , more sour notes and Incense , when I go ice fishing my Quebecois friends say " Est tu sens com du Bois est du Haschich" , Hey you smell like woods & Hashish , lol , As seasons Changes profiles changes and kids grow faster than Trees , I see Oud in the same way cause olfactory facets change like a never ending novel..

I think it's a Gyrynops and supposed to be kind of a cross between Sri Lankan and Papuan ouds. Either way, sounds very interesting. Beyond that, I have to defer to the experts.

Today I put on the beautiful Yoshi. This oudh has no barn smell which is commonly found in Indian oudh. (Don't get me wrong, I love the barn in Hindi oils and could care less on what people think on it's offensive aroma. The likes of Assam Kinam, oud Sulieman 3 and the beautiful no one would believe Cambodian Oud Mustafa 5 are some of the best Oudhs I have come across barn wise) but here we have the Yoshi, one of the most beautiful peach/tobacco notes I have come across. There are a few notes which reminds me of another non barn Hindi oudh, the beautiful Assam 3000.
After the fruitiness slowly fades, the Indian wood comes into play. Very vibrant and bright. You come to know that this is some top notch wood where this oil came from.
3 hours going and the aroma is still hitting me so beautifully.
Simply awesome stuff.

Very good observations! I also see some some distinct similarity between Yoshi and Assam 3000. Both are gorgeous oils.

Today was Sultan Leather Attar. Yes this is a Rose-centric attar but the Rose is so beautifully integrated and balanced. There is a gorgeous subtle vetiver note during the dry down which is just plain sexy.
Tonight, dinner with wifey will call for some Vietnam Special K, I reckon.
