Hi Alkhadra,
I just saw your picture of the Alhambra with the Sierra Madre behind, taken from the Albeicin in the Pomegranate. A spectacular view of one of the world’s most spectacular buildings!

Was this your photo? If not, have you ever been there?

My daughter lived in Granada for a semester of undergrad, so of course we wouldn’t have been very good parents if we hadn’t gone to bother her a bit. I was surprised how much I loved Spain. I guess it helped that my ex is Puerto Rican and Spanish is her first language.

Anyway, that view of the Alhambra is among the most stunning I have been privileged to see with my own eyes.

Hello there @Larry K.

I bet you loved Spain for a multitude of other reasons. The food, the weather, the laid back attitude of most people.

If I recall correctly the Mountains in the photo are part of the Sierra Nevada. It is a spectacular view, jaw-dropping beauty. Andalusian architecture is just stunning. Oriental meets occidental. Sadly, this is not a photo I have taken myself, nor have I ever been there.

I do hope to visit once upon a time. To visit the lands my ancestors once settled for a few short decades. Mainly Algeciras (in Arabic "Aljazeera Alkhadra"), where my surname is derived from, being part of the Hammudid family that once ruled.

Yes Malik, you’re right about the many things that make Spain so attractive. Add in the power of Spanish art and the beauty of Spanish women and I start to wonder why I don’t just live there.

The courtly manner in which you corrected my geographical mistake, and in which you have conducted yourself in the conversations you and I have had, does suggest a noble ancestry. I hope you’ll soon be able to visit there and walk in the Generalife, the splendid gardens and fountains of the Alhambra.

That's a very kind thing of you to say! But my conduct is usually in direct reflection of the person I'm speaking to, hence you are the noble one my friend.

You've made me hungry, I was just craving some Otoro (fatty tuna belly). :D I think seeing the Moors in real time would be quite weird. Imagine all the distinct languages and dialects at the time, the cultural practices and traditions before they merged today.

Ahhh Languages and Dialects is Salad of Cultures for sure. If you have a Moroccan and Egyptian talking to each other it might take a awhile cause there Arabiya is different like a Dialect , Just make sure they don't work together in a kitchen lol , I have lots of friends from different cultures , my Portuguese friends when we talk about past history the Name of there Country is Oranges in Arabic , Orange in Arabic =burtaqal and Portugal is the same if you think about it and I show the comparison and there cup of Porto drops in amazement , The Arabs new that Oranges would thrive there and man they were right SubanaAllah , I always wondered how Scholars in the past visiting foreign lands how they adapted with new languages and dialects , one Person I pondered mystically is Shajalal Al Yemeni ( RA , Rahimahullah)
) when his shipped arrived in Bangladesh Sylhet Area ( At that time it was India Al Hind , Bangladesh only created in 1971) boat got lost at sea and Allah SWT sent the Boat there for a reason , there was a Genocide happening against the Muslims and he Arrived with over 360 Arab Companions , Shajalal Al Yemeni ( RA) Stopped the Crazy King and peace and tranquility prevailed ( When he entered the Kings Special Chambers He found tons Of Black Logs of Aggarwood and Loads of Oud Oils in Bamboo Holders , no Pyrex , talk about old school baby , Me and my Cousins in Bangladesh are researching the Method how they stored the oils in Bamboo Holders to implement the Old techniques with the correct parameters ) , I asked Scholars from Sylhet how did Shajalal ( RA) speak with the People , They advised he learned the language in weeks and very fast and was an amazing teacher and a person who loved to learn & help the poor , So I was amazed that people like the Moores and past travelers had an Intellect and power of a Super computer in the Brain , SubanaAllah how God gives these gifts , if we look at Sahih Bukhari ( RA ) Russian brother and another amazing person that adapts to Languages and Dialects and Allah SWT gave him photogenic memory , He can memorize one page in 1 second just blinking once , He was born Blind Technically and his mother Kept praying for his Son ( She received a dream and Abraham PBH advised "don't worry your son is going to Be Ok" ) after Magrib his eyesight was healed and what Gift was given was a blessing from God.

My Good Friend Yusuf in Montreal is a Hafiz and he leads our Taraweeh prayers. When you hear his recitation you will start crying , there was times the whole Masjid would cry together , One Ramadan awhile back I go to the Masjid Early cause it gets packed , I hear someone give me Salam and responding in the Bengali Language , I knew this voice , It was Yusuf , and I replied back my Salam and replied in Bengali ,and we were speaking Bangla , bros I laugh so loud and Yusuf said "don't laugh to loud the Old guys might get upset" I asked Him "Bros how in the World did you learn perfect bengali ? You speak better than me and you are actually very good , Did you marry a Bengali Woman ? " now he laughed harder than me " No brother , I went to Bangladesh for tongi Ijtema and spent time with Tablighi Brothers and while I was there for 4 Months I learned how to read and write the Bengali Language" I replied " SubanaAllah and you can Marry a Bengali Woman now " He Replied " Ish I am already married " Then I said " You can always get a Second Wife if you move to Bangladesh for sure" and he started laughing so loud the Old Guys in the Masjid got Mad but they saw it was Yusuf was laughing , InshaAllah I hope you can visit me In Bangladesh when I move back in couple years , and anytime you visit Montreal Malik I am always here brother , My God am chatting away there , ( Wife is asking what are you doing there your taxes lol) Take care Aki as you can see I love to talk and brain storm about cultures and Food is my cup of tea ( Coffee for me ) , Malik Sorry for me chatting a Tom Clancy Novel there , please forgive for that , I am a Story teller as you can see , lol , and Tuna what a fish bros , amazing fighters that fish is & super tasty , ( Little Guy is crying , I think he pooped his pants, barnyard around the corner , Take care aki ) Salamulikum Bhaia

@Royal Bengal Oud Lovely stories about old history! My favorite thing which you mentioned was Shajalal Al-yemeni learning the language in a matter of weeks. I don't think the people of the past had super computer brains or anything. Rather, I think it is because their brains were not infected will television, youtube, and cellphones. They were able to focus on their mental goals a lot easier as our world is a lot faster paced, always moving from one place to another, and always checking our cellphones and what time it is a long the way.

MashaAllah are there any videos of Imam Yusuf reciting? I would love to hear that! I always found it odd how old men get upset when we laugh and joke in the Masjid. I mean why be angry? Did the Sahaba not wrestle with one another in the Masjid? It's the place that should make us feel at home more than anything.

Tell the little guy that we all love the barn and to keep it coming. :D

Salamulikum Malik ,Sorry for the late reply , Kids and Junior taking my sleep and running around like a frog , Thanks Allah SWT for Coffee :) , InshaAllah when I See him again I will bring it up and advise him that you asked to Post his recital on YouTube & will ask to make a Dawa channel also, He does allot of Dawa to strangers , and I will also advise him you are a perfumer . Now I forgot to tell you that Yusuf also Is a perfumer . He comes from a Family of perfumers . His Father was an influential helper to our Muslim community for the kids in Canadian cities , ( His Father is retired now ) , but he taught his work ethics to his Kids and community. When I 1st met Yusuf he sat right beside me in the Masjid and said "Brother you smell real nice, is that Oud you are wearing?" I replied "absolutely!" and I showered him with Oud , Then I found out he is a Oud lover like Us , So next Day I brought my most Barnyard Oud from Bandarban Bangladesh , He Responded " SubanaAllah give me More" , we started reminiscing previous people selling Oud and I brought up his Father ( I did not have his name ) I said " I remember when I was a Kid there was a Moroccan brother outside of large Ijtema's who sold Attars and Oud and he Sold it on a Carpet on the floor with Live Coal burning with Oud and Frankincense & there was only 1 guy doing that ( the way he presented him self on the Carpet , Other attar Vendors had there tables but this guy was from a Old History book of spice & silk trade & Incense from back in the days ) ,Yusuf replied , " Bros that was my Dad" , I started crying in front of him cause I had so many positive memories as a Kid during large Ijtma's across North America and his Dad was always there and also he does lot of Tablighi Work also.

So I got closer to Yusuf in a Mystical way and we share the same passion "Perfumes" , Before He got married & became a Hafiz , he was making Oils for Certain High end Clothing Stores in Montreal ( Custom made Clothing "Taylor Made", ) His Oils were marketed to a certain age group and the store Owner gave profiles to him to see what he can do , For Valentines day he provided an Oil in the Red Color group that had Rose and touch of Oud and lime and bros the Owner called Him back " Mr Yusuf we need more , an Old guy purchased all the Bottles "in a thick French accent" and he could no believe it " I was just there yesterday" Hence he was doing great ,after he finish studying to be a Hafiz and he got married and had multiple children he had no more time to put in the perfumes , He said " Ish I had a choice to follow the Perfume path but it would take away my work in the Community with the Kids and my family also so I made the decision to stop making Perfumes and give all my time to my Family and community , I need to be a true Helper."I told him 'we have projects going on in Bangladesh regarding Aggarwood , Chandan , Farming , etc ( The Projects are intended to help the poor Villagers and Teach them increase there revenue to help the Poor ) , and you are now part of my circle brother, hence I would also love to learn from you"

So he taught me also regarding the Sunnah way to do business and to make sure always listen to your clients who purchase from you to see what they want and how you can implement scent in a Bottle and then came the scent Wheel with white strips and learning different florals and then came Cooking woods and flowers & the learning is never ending , I advised Yusuf that @Adam is helping out for the art of distillation , Yusuf Replied " Ish you are lucky brother, I am going to always make Dua For @Adam , I was going to tell you to meet with the Majid Family in Saudi Arabia cause there Fam been cooking for couple of Generations " ( I had no Idea http://iterji.com/en/ ) , and Yusuf & Adam & with the Help Of Allah SWT gave me the inspiration to start planting back Home and also I built more Connections in Bangladesh and different areas. I told Yusuf when the Kids are married and gone on there way, when your students follow Rasool PBH path and you have more time on your hand, Move to Bangladesh when you are retired and help me out back home to make more perfumes when we are older with more gray hair inshaAllah , and Yusuf replied with tears " Yes Ish it would be an amazing retirement job , Absolutely"

So next time I see Yusuf I will tell him that you asked for his recording of the recital of the Quran and will ask to open a Dawa Channel and will tell him to make Dua for you plus you are from the Land Of al Aqsa and the surrounding he will start crying for sure. Plus I hope you can meet him one Day. When you speak to him he has no Arab accent , Pure English and Sounds like he is from the Hood and actually he is from a rough part of Montreal hence he knows the lingo of the younger Generations. OMG Malik am chatting away again , Sorry bros , My Bad , please forgive Aki , I Tend to do that , In person I am more intense and Dramatically in a Good way lol , Take care Aki and Don't forget to give My Salams to your whole fam , , Take care Bhaia , Salamulikum.
