I hope you get to spend more time with GP, it's fantastically calming and transformative, according to me.
Out of curiosity, what kind of climate are you in? It's amazing to experience oud in different places; how the notes change, how your thoughts change...
I live in Chicago, which doesn’t have the worst climate anywhere in the western world, but we surely get every imaginable type of weather. I haven’t really noticed how changing weather affects fragrance. It sounds like something interesting to think about though.

(BTW I never saw that self-attribution before “according to me.” Very funny!)

[QUOTE="Nikhil S: ... They have an unmatched spiritual tangent. Probably not as good as fragrance.[/QUOTE]

Nikhil: that’s such an interesting thing: obviously the general public will have the same reaction we all did when we first smelled a barny Oud. Yuck-ola! But then, not with perseverance with barn, just continuing with any Oud, barnyard ouds start to creep in, and eventually you start to crave them.
Meanwhile, the general public is still back at square 1, and will look to see if they got something on the bottoms of their shoes if they smell Oud Yunus on someone.
So how is it that such a fragrance can be spiritual to one and disgusting to another? Is it learning? Neuroplasticity? Self-delusion?
Now please excuse me while I finish my Roquefort and kim chee sandwich.

(You know, I wonder if this has been suggested before; maybe barnyard is akin to umami, the so-called 5th flavor for which there are no receptors but which we “taste” anyway.)

I thought you said OMG when i first noticed OM5 but yes OMG sounds absolutely perfect for this scenario. Many many congratulations on getting an extra bottle of one of my favorite Ouds. I too was blessed by picking up another bottle earlier this year and hopefully I won't have to touch it for the next 5 years.
Thank you, brother.
It was definitely an OMG moment to receive this, but to be clear, it was an extra bottle that belonged to someone else!
In fact, I had been living off the molecules of a sample vial all this time in hopes of getting a single bottle!
This is my first bottle, so you can imagine my happiness to wear it again yesterday!

:) That quote is something that become part of my vernacular from a beloved teacher of mine. Sometimes it sneaks out, and in the subjective discussion of fragrance and experience, it seems very suiting and often necessary. All our experiences are valid as we're learning when this simple self-attribution is included.

Well, according to me it’s a good one and one I’ll adopt.

There were others too but can't remember the names as there was so much to take in.
I only have experience with three on that list. Any one of them is deep enough for years and maybe a lifetime. Definitely a heck of a day!

That's a wishlist! Congratulations on amassing such a fleet of beautiful oils.

I'm having some FO Trat Selvagio that I mixed with a drop or two of rose oil many months ago. Both have mellowed considerably in the bottle and it's easily wearable now as the rose has lost it's edges.

Greetings , I definitely see nuances changing in Oud during 4 Seasons , 2 Seasons I noticed that dramatically changes is harsh winter -40 and Hot Humid Summers , Ex Humid Days you really smell the burnt agar chips but on Cold -40 days its more like Japanese incense trails and florals are more stronger
but for the Barnyard note it does take some time to get use to , For Ex younger generations ( 8 Years to 13 -who smell Oud are more accustomed to sweet profiles , as they get older and get re introduced to Oud it take some time and effort and dedication to take a swipe of Dirty baby diaper attar I use to call it when I was a young lad. In the Masjid every one swipes attars on peoples hand , but that day when Old Arab man gave me the Poop in a Bottle Oud I almost started crying it was so foul (7 years Old at that Time ) , The Arab brother was laughing in Tears of my reaction , but 45 minutes later the Barnyard Profile left the building and pure florals and smoke and the journey is still continuing , I got my Kids all ready fine Tuned with there noses , my 4 year Old can tell the difference from Sandalwood and Oud , and my 4 year Old responds to Hindi Oud "Smells Yucky , Like Kaa Kaa " Lol , and smells Thai Oud and Says "smells like fruit loops , Yummy Yummy " Super lol . :) ( Chicago !!! Amazing , they have some nice thick Pizza , like super Deep Pan Pizza that can feed an army , Amazing Pizza , on the List of Pizza hot Spots Chicago is , and you guys still Color the river green during St Patties Day? )

I've heard of an oud binge, but that's straight-up an overdose.
Olfactory fatigue for sure!
:p:p:p

My sotd....
As I opened my treasure chest....creeeeeeeeek.....
the black diamond called out to me ....saying.... swipe me, swipe me. So I swiped, and now I am thrilled with the dark coffee liquor, laced with emanating camphor, running through aquatic blue-green chasms. Oudy resin with echoes of fruit. Incense, and more incense du jour. Sultan grade Hun Yin:D

Hey Royal B, nice stories. I wish someone had introduced me to Oud when I was seven, or at least when my nose was still good enough to pick up half the notes you guys can get. I might have passed on that poop in a bottle though.

Honestly I don’t know if they still dye the river. I remember them doing it 20 years ago. Times change. St. Patty’s is still a big holiday around here though.

Let me know when you’re in Chicago and we’ll go grab a pizza at Lou Malnotti’s and we’ll compare notes on Oud.
