With the recent talk about Au Luong, I figured I would give it a go. I think this may be one of the most enigmatic oils out there. It is definitely unique. The more I sniff it, the more it wants to tease and cojole me. The initial smell is of a semi sweet oolong tea but then an oudyness starts to take over, followed by gorgeous sweet tobacco notes, even a little leather. For those who want an oil that plays hard to get and really want a higher learning experience, this is a safe bet. I don't think I am close to cracking this one fully but I have gotten a lot further than I was initially. Truly an exciting experience.

Well said doc ... at first when arrived it was too strong. Then slowly got softer but richer & more mysterious. I think we'll be able to watch much more amazing evaluations in it ...

I've bought 2 bottles of it. I use sample vial & v-vial with new toothpicks every time I wear. Au Luong is a very special oud ... to me it is inspiring.
I’ve taken to doing the same thing. Buy two bottles (after sampling first except in cases where there’s a danger of not even getting one bottle) and salting one away and using the other.

There is a common thing about Cambodians that they become too sweet as they get older. So I bought 2 of it & picked up 2 Camellia instead. Camellia is the sister distillation of Au Luong & wood of both were collected from living trees. I find some similarity of aliveness between them.

AA’s Kuzen for me this morning. This is my first wear of this Cambodian oil. It truly is a unique experience and a oil which I would say is on par with Kanzen but with a zesty and citrusy injection. To me this is the child of Kanzen and Koh Kood oil put together. Simply a stunning oil!

AA Hansei

Inspired by Saint’s post about Wanmei, I thought I’d get out Hansei to see if I understood it any better now. Since the last time I sampled this it has been my great good fortune to smell Ensar’s drop dead gorgeous perfection-in-a-bottle Kyara Ltd. After that experience, a person will remember the smell of Kyara. And yes, there is the smell of Kyara in Hansei. So this morning I went from having a bottle of Oud to knowing I own a treasure. I wouldn’t have picked it out before the Kyara Ltd. The word subitism is appropriate in describing Kyara Ltd. at least as far as Oud goes; all of a sudden you understand. Though it reaches a great and worthy height, Hansei, like nearly everything else in the world cannot approach that towering summit. So thanks, Saint, without your post I wouldn’t have realized how great Hansei is.

I have some Camellia. After the Hansei I’m wearing fades, I’m going to try to find the living quality you mention in Camellia.

You know, I just realized that Camellia is a main genus for tea. Oh well, they say slow wins the race if it’s combined with steady.

Chugoku Naya from Ensar. An oil so delicious I am fighting off the urge to eat my wrist. This smells like Chugoku Senkoh with a distinctly more Hindi twist. There is such delectable yet subtle sweetness interwoven with the tangy Hindi notes. It’s just so masterfully done.

More like M5 RS if there was such a thing.:p
You have fine taste in automobiles and Oud with the Chugoku Naya. The Audi RS7 Sportback is my second favorite saloon, along with the brutiful Hellcat. The Porsche Panamera is nice to look at but felt cramped in the cockpit. My favorite saloon in any iteration from the E28 to the F90 will always be the ///M5.

All too big and ostentatious imo. I'd take an M2 over all of them. ;)
