Forgot to mention...I think I’m understanding Taha’s signature. Let the wood speak through the oil. I’m guessing he usually doesn’t soak and maybe cooks in a Pyrex to eliminate accessory notes (something I know little about) besides Ensar explaining through the key rubbing in his video with Ehab.

Staying tuned good sir. Papuya...**research**

The Royal Lao is just wow. Chinese on the drydown **melting in chair**

Ensar will be soon...trying to rub together a few dimes.

Wearing Kayu today. Reminds me of a Hirta oil I tried, but much deeper. I wonder if this is too...didn’t really read the write-up. Cheers!

As per taha is maleccansis species not hirta. Is it bitter and super green?

Royal Lao and I don’t see eye to eye. I appreciate it very much but ultimately it doesn’t do to me what the likes of Hindustan 1, philipina 1, royal malinau do.

I thought so too. Except he apparently does soak and soaks everything but a controlled soak. Eitherway the signature is distinct and is his. Long live diversity in styles and may other vendors/distillers work on creating their own signatures much like the signature of al shareef, ensar sultans,....

It is green, sparkling and maybe a bit bitter, but I need to train my nose a bit more to give you a more solid answer. [emoji28]

Copy that on your Lao thoughts. Will be looking those oils up [emoji1303]

The more you know **star flying across the screen** lol. I understand with a controlled soak, one doesn’t allow bacteria to form...I’m guessing by constantly changing the water, or by refrigeration? Lol

I am pro diversity. Everyone’s craft deserves respect and attention. I try not to fanboy, but I am a young guy.

Amen. We should feel free to like what we like and nothing wrong with that. Be a fan boy. Why not. Enjoy what you enjoy and let others say do what they want. Art appreciation is a highly subjective endeavor and to me oud is art. Music is art. Textile too. Our world is a visual spectacle one and I hope one day instead of saying “seeing is believing” I see people saying: “smelling in believing”. “Listening is believing”.

Scent of the afternoon: oriscent papuya. Unreleased oil.

You guys know that I am rarely left without words. Yet this oil leaves me speechless. It literally takes my breath away. I am left observing my body and being from a bird eye point of view. Like my soul has left my body and is observing what I am doing. What an oil. Wow.

@bhanny
You need to start the chart all over again and throw this bad boy in there.

Open letter to Kyara Ltd 2.0:

Hey old pal. How are you? Hope the winter slumber has been a good one. Been a while since we last met. Forgive me for I have made a mistake. I betrayed you. I never intended for it, and I tried to not succumb to its irresistible nature, but I had an affair. I cheated on you with this exotic yet familiar creature named Papuya.

She turned off my brain. She let me just be. Like you used to do, But then you decided to go all complex on me and got my mind active again. You had too much oomph and many changes during our time together. High maintenance person you are. Sometimes I want to spend time with a familiar friend: Nha Trang Ltd. no surprises with him (yes I can’t see Kyara Ltd or Nha Trang as feminine.I can see papuya as feminine though. Frida! Cleopatra! Mitra! ).

Anyways back at it and in plain language: papuya for a brief period dethroned Kyara Ltd 2.0 AND Nha Trang Ltd. as the number one of all time. Yup. She and I had a hell of a time. And still do. But then you had to come out, puff your chest and remind me of the bro code. The camaraderie. Our long history together. Ok. Ok. You win. But watch out. Papuya is right behind you. Staring you down.

This sounds like either a case of space madness or altitude sickness.

Today I was introduced to a family from Qatar, and being the oud fiend that I am, I asked them about the annual Qatari oud consumption rate and the market there. Luckily they were quite familiar with Oud and enjoyed it often at home. We discussed the varieties of wood they enjoyed and also oils. As Friday is one of my favourite days to pack along a killer Oud, I remembered I had a v-vial of Sultan Salahuddin in my pocket. Their reaction when I shared it with them was priceless. They said they had never encountered that quality of oud before, and now believe there is something "fishy" about the oud they were getting back home o_O.
As @Rasoul S would say..... "baaaaam!"

Indeed. Whistler lacks the oxygen we have at sea level in vancouver. ;-)

P.s I have no idea if I am even coherent in the above message. I havent re-read it, or have that much confidence in the quality of what I wrote. I was merely spitballing and putting in pen while riding the fumes of this narcotic scent Kyara Ltd 2.0

Baaaaam. Sultan for the slay.

Today is Nashila

Kayu is a nice oil. A little on the light side for my taste...I like something with more oomph!
However, we got hit by a snowstorm yesterday and I had a long commute home. Kayu kept me calm and focused :)

Trying not to read up on these too much until I wear them a bit.

IO Pai Sia Kan today.

Drydown reveals what this oud truly smells like. The barn that’s slapped on top is over dominant. Personally, I don’t mind the barn, it reminds me of Yunnans, but sometimes I wish I could tweak the dial to increase more of the oudy aroma. Dial-a-oud? Can it be done :p:p:p

I loved that story. opening peoples eyes to artisan Oud is something amazing, especially when they can appreciate it as much as I do. Qatar holds a special place in my heart...I got to interact with some wonderful people there, eat some amazing food, see amazing architecture, and experience burning wood for the first time.

I love nashila. Is not quite a legend yet in my books, but I do see this oil gaining lately and I think in 3-6 months-based in previous examples of taha oils released young- it will be quite special. Wearing it right now as my scent of the night. A round comforting yet intriguing oil. Sweet. Dessert after dinner but restrained within it rainbow display.

Haven't been by in awhile - but still an oud man!

Enjoying Oud Al Kaabah (Ensar) today - this is a cultivated oil released a few years ago around the time of Oud Yaqoub and Oud Yusuf.. It has aged wonderfully and I'm appreciated a very ripe quality - smells like the wood was soaked until just before the barnyard notes would be imbued - there's just this hint of barn to the Thai/Cambodi type profile.. Initially this was not one of my favorite EO oils but my appreciation has grown..

Yesterday - Santal Royale (Ensar) - fabulous sandalwood oil, one of the finest I've smelled, with a vibrant fresh tree quality coupled with an earthy/musky/spicy quality.. The complexity on this one makes it as interesting to study as a fine oud - usually sandalwood oils are really pleasant and beautiful to smell but can also be sort of simple and uninteresting after a few sniffs - not this one.. Those who have this in their collection are fortunate indeed..

Picked up some of his 80's Mysore sandalwood also - top shelf goodness here, sweet and rich.. Top-shelf Sandalwood on the electric heater can rival agarwood for aromatic intensity and enjoyment, and has a user-friendly quality that makes it the sort of thing that non-incense appreciating houseguests (here in the USA where basically no one knows about agarwood and Japanese style incense) can readily enjoy.. I've had some friends not really like what was very fine agarwood on the electric heater, but the sandalwood is always a hit..

Sultan Suleyman (Ensar) - it's hard to pick which of his top-shelf New Guinea distillations are my favorite, but this one competes for sure.. The Malaysian influence here is wonderful - imagine a hint of something along the lines of Purple Kinam teasing you amidst the epic, wild blue-green jungle aroma of the New Guinea agarwood.. An extravagant perfume..
