Day Swipe - ASO Marjaan

If I directly experience the dry down of Marjaan on someone I would say it's an incense based Attar with Oud, Sandalwood with hint of Vetiver but not an Oud Oil from Kelantan.

However before I share my journey with this oud I have to say it was a pleasurable aura filled day.

Opening of Marjaan feels like fresh grass, while you enjoy the green you slowly start to breathe vetiver within. About an hour gone and my nose felt a dominate Vetiver note with some spices and herbs trying to introduce themselves. Slowly post the 3 hour mark Vetiver is toned down and the Oudiness starts to show with a hint of sandalwood in the background. After an 8 hour mark the dry down is of an Attar with Oud, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Spices etc. I haven't experience something like this in my short Oud Journey.

ASO has named Marjaan - A Unique Oud I have no doubt about that anymore its indeed a unique one [emoji7]

Attracting some due respect with EO’s Czar Sultan. This organic Papuan has an overall profile colour of jade/emerald green. The scent breakdown goes like this:
Top: salted caramel, hops, eucalyptus, un-peated whiskey, camphor.
Heart: frangipani, guava, wisteria, citrus liqueur, lime, vetiver, anise, rose, blackberry.
Base: sencha, santal, nutmeg, frankincense.

Al Hashimi Kanz (Sabah Borneo)

Opens too minty with a hint of musk ... once the mint settles in I get saffron on a bed of pure oudiness. Oooo!!! that combination is to die for [emoji7] .... the only issue with the oil is performance in humid Mumbai climate i think itll be a beast of an oil in cooler climate ....

few words on Taha's latest malay oils. sample size buys. all worn 3 times at least with seated mediation and plenty of time given to each oil to show all it has to offer (in its current stage of evolution)

AA malaya is terrific. esp for the price. not inexpensive but it offers plenty of oomph and wow and bang for the buck. lots of cola nut (almost ayu level) meets plenty of purple floral, smoky (not literal actual smoke) herbal, incense notes.

of the most recent ones kirana and hulubalang offer a good QPR too and are pleasant oils. a study of gold/amber/yellow accord (almost vietnam) vs a darker herbal, spicy, cola nut, incensy gree hulubalang.

royal jerai while plenty unique and attractive up front (super zesty, and acidic red fruits; strawberry short cake) lacks the oomph of malaya for more or less a same priced oil. perhaps as the oil settles it gains more base but Malaya at a similar stage was showing more already and my spidey senses tell me this oil wont go where malaya has gone.

on a side note, the royal maluku seram has put on a bit more weight and shed some of it sharper young top notes. it is a much better oil and that orris butter and iris absolute note is intoxicating. i live for this scent so the oil is considered a good buy for me, but otherwise, i think most will not be enamored (considering the price) with the seram.

Started the day with swipes of Aroha Kyaku (after stirring a couple of drops in my coffee) - amazing combination! This organic Thai oud has many faces and always offers something new:
Top: peat smoke, birch tar, frankincense, tangy-sweet mulberry.
Heart: black pepper, charred fruit, leather, tobacco, vetiver, menthol.
Base: ambergris, patchouli, santal, ocean salt, molasses...
and so much more!

I have been on a major incense and wood kick so much so that even the few oils I have put on here and there have been like a scent. A cologne. Something you wear. Is pleasant no doubt. They call the mind or excite but not the way an amazing wood on the right temp or that perfectly made incense steals your soul and leaves you at awe.

Came out Kyara Ltd 2.0.
If this is oud then what is all else? If everything else is oud then what is this? Serious. I am dead serious.

It is oils like this that pull me back in and remind me that regardless of how awesome the wood or incense get, it is oils like this that are at the very top of the olfactory experience.

I can’t be bothered to give you a play by play. What I have written before stands. The hainan note but dressed In a red robe is particularly attractive this evening.

Do yourself a favor. If you have to not buy 5-10 mid tier oils to secure this, DO IT. If you have to wear oils once a week to save up, DO IT.

May you be ready when you meet this nectar of the gods.

Tonight as all Sandalwood for me. Got a few Sandalwood chips on the burner and a few generous swipes of Santal X on the sleeve, just a few months back I had no appreciation for Sandalwood oils, and I've tried plenty of em. None of them every hit the spot for me.

But this, yeah, I'm feeling it :D

Day Oud - EO Peoples Ceylon

So the with first fast came my first experience with burning Kinam on low heat

EO - Brunei Kinam

What can I say placing this on the heater and cranking up the temp little by little just took me on a very different Oud experience. The Warm Milk note which is so evident is to die for. And I also get some hint of cinnamon and pear not so evident as the warm milk note..

I'm glad I did this and thank Almighty to make it possible so that I could afford this experience [emoji1374]

IO- Nha Trang Ultima + Agar Aura Nha Trang incense sticks

Honestly I'm yet to get awed by a Vietnamese oil I have tried Kinam Rogue, IO - NHA Trang Royale and IO- Hoi An

But NTU is different to all I have tried so far. The bitter sweet medicinal opening shows its connection to Sinensis profile, Also the hint of Cinnamon note confirms its Sinensis. But but but as you spend time with it the oil starts to show some crassna based notes like florals and fruity but it's not overpowering the woody oudy notes.

I think this is a special oil and I'm glad I got an opportunity to first hand try this one. I dont know if I will ever be able to afford NHA Trang LTD but if what I've read on forums this is a close second to that and my best Vietnamese Oil by far.

nha trang ultima is a beast oil. no doubt. i like it alot. it is above almost all other non ensar vietnamese oils i ahve tried, inclduign my HIGHLY beloved agar aura vietnam special k and kenmei. but you cannot even remotely compare it to royal guallam let alone nha trang ltd. ZERO comparison. nha trang ltd profile is red. is mineral. is kinam kinam kinam and undescriable. nha trang ultima is green, minty, vibrant and bright. two very very very different oils. nha trang ultima is close to smelling nha trang anthole wood while nha trang ltd is close to smelling kinam itself and ancient pitch black, crayon/resin looking nha trang heartwood (only place i know you can still source some is privately via KZ and decent but not same grade from tony bolton). take it from a grain or fistful of salt, or visit me in vancouver and see for yourself.

Friday Prayer scent IO - Fragrant Harbour Imperial

This is a super oil the way it opens I haven't experienced an opening like this in a sinensis oil. I have tried Hainan 05, Hainan Imperial, Sinensis IV, Malek Al Ceen.

Its green honeyed wet earth opening and yes the honey note is very evident. And As the oil comes to it's own after an hour or so you start to get whiffs of Kinam which is so beautiful and it stays with u throughout. The dry down is like warm milk, with hint of Cinnamon on a bed of oudiness ...

I'm actually glad that brother Faizal to kept this aside, this was the last bottle they had left.
