I had to go back to a taha oil today for th reason that what went down was on a taha thread I started and that the oil I wiped off (had to) was a taha oil.

Scent of the night: AA koh Kood
Blind full vial purchase. Second encounter but first really critical one.
More Thai than anything else. The tropical fruits. Lots of likeness to yusuf and Jing Shen lu.
Then lots of Vietnamese but in particular imperial oud viet zephyr. A rich fruity highly medicinal neroli rich hospital not accentuated kind of Vietnamese. More hainan yunnan undertone than the cambodi I know.

Delicious oil. I like it but don’t love it. For its price point fairly complex and bang for buck but ultimately not an oil I think is textbook example of taha’s work. It doesn’t have his signature like how it shows in his special K oils or gen 3 oils like ayu, au luong, kiyosumi/kenmei, kekasihku, levanya, kanzen ....

There is a park in Los Gatos that has a large lights display for Christmas that normally you pay to drive your car around and look at the lights. It's right down the street from the Netflix main office. This weekend only they allow people to walk the route. I needed an oud that would counteract all the ostentatious displays of wealth present. At first I considered Tigerwood royale but decided it was too pretty for the task at hand. So Oud Dhul Q it was ( I debated Kambodi X but I still think it needs a year or two to chill out ). Adikuto X would have been nice, I have a sample, but too polite. Since it was only 8C today in Cali, the smoke aspect was muted by the cold. Really nice oud, still quite loud, but the cold chilled it out nicely. I've been favoring my more mellow ouds lately since they really smell good in the cold, like Borneo 2000. I've now come to realize this is a warm weather oud, and not many in my collection fit that bill. Next time I head to the Philippines Oud Dhul Q is coming with me.

The only issue with thick ouds is they take almost 2 hours to dry in the cold. So between my sleeves being rolled down, and my wife holding my forearm, most of it ends up on my shirt or jacket. I hate being overly concerned about my wife touching me lest my oud gets wiped away. And putting Dhul Q on my neck would look like I have some strange skin issues, and my wife would make fake gagging noises while kissing me if I did that. It's issues like these that make me wary of buying expensive ouds, I don't want to be more paranoid about touching anyone/anything for the first few hours, it's not a good look on me. First world problems I suppose.

Feel Oud - Hindi 100k. This has been our go to Hindi of late, I thought the oil might benefit from a little extra curing and it did. That and over a year of ageing has bought out a lovely tobacco note that wasn't there for us previously and has strengthened and balanced the oil in general, it's a great classic Hindi. Glad that we got a tola (and that I didn't end up selling any of it!), it's an oil that's a not so guilty pleasure to swipe big.

I'm older than this oil, but I have to respect it because it smells so good.

Then I asked myself, "how can something that smells like deisel and grease smell so good"?

Then I answered myself, "Oud is the most perplexing and wonderous aromatic substance on earth, while our sense of smell is the most sophisticated and not fully understood sense organ".

I would like to think that I can appreciate an oil like this because I was into Scent from my pre-teens and up, and have experienced so many scents, but I am not sure if that is the reason.

I would also like to think that I can appreciate an oil like this because I like to transcend the physical, but likewise, I am not sure if that is the reason.
