This morning I put on AgarAura’s Ketenangan. This oil was a gift from my younger brother who bought this a couple of years back. It remained in my possession but I never opened it to smell it. Well he gave me a full sample vile and today I wanted to try this. I sure am glad I tried this oil. This is wild gyrinops from the Sumbawa island.
This oil is a hybrid between Borneo and Papua oils and has such a unique twist of aroma of something very special. This is done old school style and the sweet notes are not the ones that throw you off but rather it brings you closer and closer wanting to sniff it more and more. The dry down is super awesome and that’s where you get to smell the sheer greatness of this oil.
A true blessing to have smelled this gem of a oil!

This afternoon I got to try my newest addition AgarAura’s Syed Ascent. First of all this oil is a sheer monster in a bottle. The first initial hit of this oil and I was blown away. The Aquilaria Filaria aka Supreme Meroke agarwood in this oil is not like a car or truck hitting you but rather a heavy locomotive train traveling at 100 mph. Gone in this are the jungly notes which can throw off people. This oil has some of the most pleasant notes of nature that of a beautiful waterfall hitting the rocks and gently landing onto the grass and trees aroma.
The silage of this oil well to give you an example I put a small tiny dot probably the size of a mosquito head this afternoon around 1:30 pm and right now is 9:20 pm and I could clearly still smell the beautiful Marokeness in this oil.
As @Taha said it smooth yet potent. More to come on this one of a kind oil. A true honor to have tried this!!
Amazing. Wow. I am fortunate to have Syed ascent. It is a beast but a beautiful beast. Quite elegant.

If there was a bow down emoji, I would use a line of it!!

OR85 for me tonight. The deep oudyness of this oil is just unmatched. Dark camphorous, liquor like, almost black ink/graphite notes dominate this beauty. A medicinal dark gem. The aging is clearly part of the secret sauce here, not to mention killer wood. A reference oil.
OR85...a gem indeed... I wonder where Ensar unearthed that beauty........I mean beast:confused:

@BrotherKool
I have a fond memory of Ketenangan.
I was chillin’ on my bed beside a window. The swipe of Ketenangan was on my wrist with my arm rested at my side. The wind was gentle as I was getting waft after waft from the swipe 3 feet away.
Precious:rolleyes:

Amazing review !

IMHO the level of potency-smoothness-aliveness-depth comes from AA Syed's Ascent _ absolutely unmatched & each parameter at it's highest level.

Specially the depth & smoothness of Syed's Ascent is literally incredible _ to me it's an ocean. Every time I wear it starts stirring my soul with soft sweet gentle touch.

It's an unworldly spiritual medicine which heals the agonies of my soul instantly. Ascent is not earthy _ to me it's a HEAVENLY OUD.

Smooth, mellow, airy, ethereal and fragrant. The high toned top notes malinau is famous for us toned down and have beautifully merged with the rest of the oil thnx to aging but I am also positive based on the distillation itself. I just can’t see borneo diesel or Royal malinau becoming this oil with even 10 years of aging. @Ensar?

Truly a beautiful oil. The colour that comes to mind is baby yellow. Seaaon is spring.
What was once a source of problem for me (cardboardy note in steam distilled oils) is no longer an issue. I guess body has made adjustments.

Very highly doubt it! Though I am very happy with the Diesel just as it is now.
Good to hear. As a matter of fact I am wearing Borneo diesel now. The depth is there but the top notes can make it hard to see it. Lovely oil.

Generally speaking though how long does it take for top notes to quiet down or integrate? I am with you that with some oils we likely never want them to go there while others really do benefit from it. At the end of the day to each their own. No wrongs.

EO’s Jing Shen Lu. How can I forget about this one of a kind oil. This was probably my 3rd or 4th bottle I got from Ensar after I woke up from my deep absence of oud.
The Kyen notes in this are very visible and someone new into oils can easily confuse this to be a Vietnamese Oil. That’s how powerful this stuff is. The tanginess, sweetness, and the quality of this wood is exceptional.

Wanmei baby! She is awake from her slumber. Another case of hide and seek and mind game play kinda oud by mr taha. I wonder if some of ensar oils too go thru this “dumb period”?
Note: dumb period is a wine term meaning a certain period after bottling that the wine shows less. Feels shut down and otherwise ungiving. Automatically and texturally. Aka bottle shock”

Anyways back to the oil. She is a beauty. I chose she purposely. She is Smoother rounder sweeter than kenmei/kiyosumi duo and also has left the green cooling camphorous note behind. There is a mint and patchouli note but more as a scent and not as a sensation. Also it is mild.

Unmistakably Vietnam. Unmistakably taha oil. And worlds apart from what I thought once: royal guallam and wanmei as somewhat related like cousin oils or something.

No way sir. Two very different beasts. Both beautiful in their own right. Different energies too. RG is terminally bitter and very awakening. It’s a bolt. It is like a general. Masculine and disciplined. Wanmei is sweet and round. No edges or angularity. Like a perfectly relaxed and chill yet dressed up lady.

Man we are lucky to live in these times. The amount of oil offerings of such vast different styles, qualities, grading... available to us. I wish Prices were lower for oils I really like. My problem is Vietnam part cambodi borneo Malaysia Brunei is my Home. These are the oils that really touch me on a different level. Walla patta was once one of these. Not anymore. Is coarse. Gyrinops is coarse. It can be enjoyable and complex and something one craves but is no Vietnam or others above for me. I know hindi and Chinese belong there for most. Burmese even. Etc. but for me this is where I am at at this stage of my relationship with Oud.

I am betting that genetically crassna and sinesis are a superior species to gyrinops. I wonder if any scientific proof exists for example of number of aromatic and precurser to aromatic compounds exist more in one ba other? Or other markets that could prove this.

Honest write up ... ;)

That's why I've ordered a .5g sample of Wanmei before a full bottle or 2 ...

AA Kuzen

Taha said Kuzen is 'Kanzen Level' stuff but I'd like to add a little more. More like Khmer Special K in some parameters ... overall a little inferior than Kanzen but in some respect even better. It is one of the most amazing cambodi I've ever smelt. Very pleasant scent. Mood changer. At the price point (Lesser than Kanzen) definitely not a steal _ it's a HAUL !

Today being Friday and trying to keep the Hindi mood alive, I decided to first fumigate my clothes with some super Manipur wood. After that I took a nice swipe of AA’s Chamkeila. Wah wah. Taha’s Gen 3 oils are a different creation and to enjoy this one of a kind Indian Oil is something very fortunate for me. We are waiting for Taha’s new project. Another Hindi handcooked by the Maestro?
