For lunch it's a durian smoothie and a swipe of Feel Oud Chan Yan.
One day I will try Durian! Awesome John.

Today is Aroha Kyaku LTD. This oil emotes a quiet sense of power. Unlike AK, this one is devoid of the evolving dark red cassis and fruits which evolve during dry down. Stays smoky, green and and potent.. I am continually amazed at the variety of scents nature and deft artisans can create.

Sotd: FO Choco Bo Rai + Sandal 100k by FO. Bitter cocoa smoke sweet opening with a classic Sylheti drydown. Sandal is pure Mysore Thrill maybe an electrifying version and less on the lactonic-woody aspect.

Sotn: Saturday Nights are a blessing knowing that tomorrow is Sunday lol. Second trial of Lushai Hills by Agarwood Assam. An ultrarefined thick sweet smoke cherry of aged agallochas with a strange pinch of tobacco. Marvellous.

Today I put on the beautiful Oud Mustafa 5. What a beauty! Dabbed a nice swipe just before my 5 1/2 hour drive up north. How and where did the time go, I have no idea. One thing for sure is that it did make my drive very pleasurable. Hands down one of my all time favorites!

I am around 45 mins away on highway 17. I take mission blvd. in Fremont all the time to avoid traffic when going over the Sunol Grade. Fremont is becoming a seriously nice town, amazing really from what it once was. Let me know I'll be driiving by on Monday.

This morning I put on Mysore 1984 and Santal Sultan on both arms. Both are really really low notes, but the Sultan has an addicting buttery sweetness that rounds out the 84's bitter 100 year old driftwood smell. Can still smell them clearly tonight but only up close.

Aroha Kyaku LTD: Sheer grace wrapped in wafts of oudy smoke is what I couldn’t find anywhere but in Aroha K. Agarwood treasures divine oud oil in its heart. Aroha K treasures heavenly incense wood in its each trail. This is a Cambodi, but transports beyond Cambodi where pure OUD resides, without any zone-centric limitations.

Sunday :) Wearing T shirt completely soaked in the essence of Wild Manipiri wood burnt at very low heat. Sweet and sour bonfire with that epic sweet herbal effect out of this world and different from every Indian oud. And topped it wìth Lushai Hills (Agarwood Assam). Throughout my journey I have flirted with Bengali Beauties of various ages (barn, non barnyard, spicy, smokey, rarely sweet as well) but this is a love affair. An affair which takes my love to a state of obssession with Hindi Oud. One of those sufi oils which needs patience, maturity andwisdom to understand it. Can easily be missed if you blink for a second and you have deprived yourself the pleasure of olfactory euphoria. It is ultrafiltered hindi oud with thesweetness of very old Kalakassi cherry pipetobacco which opens with a waxy earthy tone of wet soil. A reflection of the soul of HindiOud trapped in time. When it flows in the airyou it is so perfect as if someone if painting abeautiful image with oud brush in the air.Ancient Nakkashi. It is pure poetry. A couplet of love from Khusrau sahab sung by a legend like Nusrat Sahab when he is at the peak of flow. His hands high in the air ready to receive love of God and golden sargam flowing out of his very soul. This is epicness. Glory be to you brother Zak. You are blessed to have a father who can treat Hindi Oud like this. Pure velvet. Makhmali. Have a goodsunday my Oudi friends :).

But Kanam/Kyara are Ustad Badei Ghulam Ali Khan, Pandit Jasraj, Panditah Girgia Devi;)! You are right in Qawwali he is matchless.
Wow. Wow. Great taste dear sir. How wonderful. I am more of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi guy sir. But still Nusrat Sahab is my fav singer. He was flawless to my ears. But strictly his qawwali. I also listen to Abida Begum, Farida Khanum and Mehdi Hassan. What amazing talents. But I agree Kyara and Kinam would be the ragas :).

SOTN Sentana Dalem by Brother Muhammad T (Agarwood Indonesia). Glorious Indonesi. Hits the nasal ceptors like a bullet. Sharp terpentine menthol blast settling into meditative bittersweet Oud. The opening slaps your mind with a blast of wintergreen oil and hints of cardamom. Wait for the drydown. It is magical. Also gets hints of geranium and himalayan frangipani. Very unique signature. What a humble talent. I love his work.

This morning was Malay Encens from HOM. There have been comments about similarities between this oil and TW95. I can see where that is coming from. Both oils share a similar musky, oudy characteristic. This is a scent profile which can be a bit challenging to the newer enthusiast but eventually becomes a beloved one, at least in my personal experience.
Apart from the similarities I mentioned, the 2 oils are quite different, reflective of their price points. The TW95 is more complex, incensy, musky, balanced and clearly from higher quality wood. Its like the M.E. turned up several notches in every category. It is a benchmark Malaysian oud for its price point. Having said that, I take nothing away from the Malay Encens. It delivers a very satisfying oud experience, despite being somewhat more harsh. And for this morning's sweaty high heat round of golf, it was a guilt free big swipe wear, knowing I was saving the 'good stuff'.
Given the justifiably high cost of top quality ouds, it is nice to have a cheaper alternative when critical, introspective sniffing is not really possible, but you want to wear something (I guess I am addicted, LOL).

If I weren't actively trying to save up for a couple of bottles I have in mind, I would purchase another bottle of TW95 in the blink of an eye. I am soooo enchanted by this one. :)

Kyara LTD (EO) this morning - veeeery intense oil! It so bursteth forth with spicy, sweet, bitter, and kinamic nectar notes that it is almost a little much at first - as it progresses on the skin it becomes this radiant and immaculate kyara scent (the floral nectar aspect of kyara).. The spicy aspect is more prevalent up front, and this gives way to the smooth floral nectar..

This evening I'm heating some very fine Yunnan '91 agarwood from Ensar. He says Chinese agarwood is the most medicinal, and oh boy it sure may be - I was stabbed/stung by a stingray this afternoon and endured several hours of very bad pain in my foot - finally got seen in the urgent care and am not enjoying the benefits of some pain relieving medicine and this very fine agarwood.. This Yunnan '91 has a rich spicy-sour earthy quality that I just love.. My pain has faded and olfactory bliss has taken its place - thanks Ensar!!
