Today my SOTD is the beautiful crafted Aroha Kyaku by Sidi Ensar. I also burned some wild hindi agarwood chips and left it closed in my closet. My clothes just smell complete now with the addition of the EO's AK.

Maroke LTD - Gaianmind your post on the ouddict forum got me reaching for a swipe of this one - wow, forgot why this used to be my favorite oil! Well, it was my favorite early on in my oud collecting, when I had only tried a couple dozen oils - I wouldn't say it isn't my favorite, just that I have so many fantastic oils that choosing a favorite is futile lol.. Anyhow though, the combination of vibrant, sweet kyara-forest freshness and heavy medicinal scent in Maroke LTD is just phenomenal..

My little .1ml high recovery v-vial qty of this oil though has separated into 2 layers - the top layer is light yellow and the lower layer is an orange.brownish color.. Not sure what to make of that - my other qty, in a 1ml v-vial, has not separated.. I remember also, I added perfumer alcohol to the remnants of my sample vial qty of Maroke LTD, and after a few days a glob of clear waxy oily gunk settled out of the liquid onto the bottom of the vial - the scent profile became very poor at this point, and I decided that perfumers alcohol and Maroke LTD was not a good mix..

Today's SOTD(s) are taking me to another place. Purple Kinam, Kynam No 1, and Oud Ahmad! In my opinion, these three oils are the finest oils ever crafted (from the ones that I've smelled). That's saying a lot for me because I've been on a real traditional oudy kick lately with the likes of Tigerwood 1995 and Kinam Rouge and two of the above smell nothing like Oud. I'll be reviewing these in another thread.

5MeO I'm eternally grateful for your kindness in letting me aquire 1ml of the Maroke LTD from you! Yes I love it. That is intresting about the separation of your .1ml v-vial, is the cap all solid or is it the ones you can insert a syringe into?

P.s I know what you mean about the impossibility of choosing a favorite oil!

Today I have Kayu Penyulingan from JK at Rising Phoenix. Quite a smoky scent compared to most Malaysian Ouds. A dark incense underpins notes of chocolate, dark black fruit and leather. Really nice stuff.

So awesome you are enjoying them. All three are so special. Hope they have the same effect on you as they do me, especially the Kynam No1.

I think this is an interesting phenomenon. There are oils I try the first time and may not love or even like at first sniff. Fast forward to a later time and suddenly they are great. Aroha Kyaku was one of those. Now I freaking love it. Sometimes it is also the "style" of the oil. I get so used to wearing EO oils that trying a different brand can initially be underwhelming, but it just ends up being "different". Not worse. Great in their own ways.

Have you tried Cambodi Hakasui from JK? It is awesome, IMO.

You are absolutely right. I find that a lot! I have not tried it. I will have to take a look.

Ensar and Adam were talking about Adam's Old School Vietnam. I put a swipe on tonight. It opens with smoke and lots of it. Smoldering agarwood and tobacco smoke. And you better take your coffee black, because that's how its served here, dark and bitter black coffee. Don't ask for sugar, don't ask for cream, none of that sissy stuff here. There's incense there alright, its bone dry and fits in with the bitter coffee and smoke. This one softens and becomes a less smokey as it develops. Faint red spices creep in. Just a tad of sweetness, just a tad mind you. The smoke is really balanced with resin, incense and spices at this point. Really nice and complex. For me, the smokiness in the beginning was maybe a bit much, but overall its very nice. And the late first, mid and latter phases are amazing. And for someone who wants some smoke, this is the one for you!

I went with Oud Royale 85 today. Does it get much better than this?

It is quite a personal scent. Not loud on me but close sniffs are pure nirvana. Just beautiful beautiful stuff.

EO Tigerwood 1995.

It's special treat time at the end of a bug we all had for a week and it's also the very last of the sample vial... I feel some degree of sadness that it's now finally gone. I had to pour a little argan oil into it to dissolve the last for removal.

It strikes me that with it's initial classy menthol notes it's de facto the finest vicks vapor rub that ever was or will be.

However, I will be repurposing the vial to pour a drop of EO Purple Kinam into it for a newly made buddy at Ouddict, oudamberlove, as well as the dregs of my Ambra, Green Papua and Borneo Zen for him to sample. This gives me no small degree of joy as sharing the experience of new scent joys makes me happy.

The only babysitter that I trust with my kids, Lily, who is also my upstairs neighbour comes originally from Hawaii. As a reward for enduring them for 4 hours when baby girl was pining over me I gave her a layered swipe of Borneo Zen and Oud Yusuf. She was transfixed for a moment and told me that this was exactly how a field of wildflowers near her old home used to smell. What a gift! My wife remarked how happy she looked afterwards.

@kesiro - It's very nice my friend. I tend to favor the personal scents. Oud Royale 85 is such a heavenly resin-laden Sumatran. It is unabashedly oud. I love it. Its the only oil I actually own a 2nd bottle.

@RobertOne - Awesome to share my friend. Glad you've been able to sample such amazing ouds! And even better that you found a sitter you trust with your kids, we have one and its a blessing. Do let us know after your next round of sampling your thoughts!

I went with Kinam Rouge today. Love the red medicinality of this baby. Not to mention kinam.

@bhanny- I am with you my brother. In my younger days I was into the scents that would throw a big scent trail and aura around me. I have gone totally in the other direction. Oud for me is more for the user then for leaving a mark in the crowd.

@bhanny - Up since 2ish AM (time of posting is 0440 CT) I needed some oompf despite going to bed at 9PM so shortly after getting up I swiped some Kinam Rouge just under my nose too!

@ Kesiro - I know exactly what you mean. These days when I am using scents, especially precious Ouds, I only swipe a tiny amound on freshly washed beard / skin directly under my nose. They are for me to enjoy.

The exceptions are when out on a hot date with my wife or when I want her opinion on a scent or attentions.

Hey Robert! Hot date the the wife is an exception, haha. As a matter of fact, I had one last night. So the scent of the evening was Guallam Solide. This is closer to a perfume in behavior than any other oud I have experienced. Much louder projection and cRaZy sillage. Definitely a special occasion oud.

Still lounging in bed at a hotel in Walnut Creek, so the SOTD today is still TBD!

Nice! I also reserve mine for special occasions. I recently used it at a wedding.

It is interesting to see how others experience, enjoy and wear oud. Oud for many, now and historically, is a very personal and spiritual thing, as well as being something to be shared. As far as sharing and as a Muslim, we follow the Hadith and Sunnah of our beloved prophet Muhammad(SAWS), in hadith it was reported:

~ Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) never used to refuse Taib (attar, perfume oils, oil fragrances, musk oils) and used to say that the Prophet (peace be upon him) never used to refuse (a gift of) scent.
[sahih al-Bukhari / V7 / H5929]~

~Whoever is given Taib (attar, perfume oil, oil fragrances, musk oil), he should not refuse it, because it has a good smell and it is light to carry.
[sunan Abu Dawud / V4 / H4172 / Hadeeth Sahh]~

There are many times when I just want to sit and listen to an oil, internalizing and focusing on its scent progression, dynamism and realizing any of the more psychoactive qualities of the oil that I may perceive. Although I do and enjoy that I typically wear oud more prominently heavy, dependent on setting and appropriateness of course as I live in the West. In Hadith it was reported:

~Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) states that when a companion would desire to visit the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and would not find him, they would track him by his fragrance in the streets.~

~Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that, 'When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) went down the road, anyone who had followed him knew that he had passed that way because of his scent.~

Now, as a side note about refusing and don't you say anything @bhanny, I didn't refuse but rather I asked for a raincheck. Because your not trying to do anything but get me in a whole heap a trouble and put in the doghouse, and besides that my wife knows where I keep my cutlass. I know your taste and know for sure that anything you'd send me I'd just have to have. I don't just track my package because I can hardly wait to get it, I track it in an attempt to intercept it so I don't have to hear, "Oh, you got another one of those little packages from over seas". It's not easy guys.
