@ bhanny - yes for sure, I have taken to not writing a review on an oud until I have a few wears of it - though sometimes I love it so much initially I'll post something right away :p

Some ouds definitely grow on me - I've got Sultan Afnan on my right wrist today and Borneo Adventure 2 on the left - at first I didn't care for Sultan Afnan, though now it's a favorite of mine.

This afternoon I applied Oud Yusuf. It has been about 2 months since I last tried it and my experience this time is totally different. Today it is much more powerful and deeper than I recall before. Really surprised me. The floral notes are beautiful and still present but I am getting a deeper incense and resinous accord. I am shocked how much I am loving it. It is no slouch in my line-up.

Good and how are you doing sir? Came to the Bay Area to visit the family for the holidays. It truly is an awesome oil.
Awesome! If you have some time during the Thanksgiving 4 day weekend and can make it to the Sacramento area, I would be happy to hook up with you and share some oils and say hi. Just an open invite.

That's really nice of you. I am a bit tied up with the family but next time I come I will try to make a trip to Sacramento. Thanks once again. Would really like to see you and your oil collection.

No problem. Open invitation. I figured you were busy. Enjoy the weekend!

Shano Shokat again (AA) - this one and Lalitya are earthy, woody, and sort of sour/acidic in the way that fine wines and coffee can be.. Indian oils that are a really awesome part of the oud scent spectrum - I can't say that either of these two oils smell like any other oils I have had - except maybe Bhavana (AA).. There is a "neutral" quality to these oils that I really like - a somber, dignified quality - there is no fruit, no sweetness, no florals, no "green" note, no borneo sunshine, no Malaysian extravagance - so what does that leave us with? Very hard oils to describe..

I have read that some types of Indian oud wood has a natural animalic/barnyara aspect - while both these oils have no extra barnyard from soaking/fermentation, there is nevertheless an animalic quality that is quite delightful - does not smell at all like a fermented/cheese/fecal/barnyard note though - a very pure smell..

Hi everyone, I always enjoy reading everybody's posts (very educational-thanks alot),
I would like to ask the Maestro of the Oud Symphony (Ensar) to take it easy on us ! We have families my friend !
Every few days new release and I say (no more oils till the new year) , man it doesn't work ... when I see the amazing new oils start to feel itchy !
I've been doing really well for 4 months and my goal not to buy oils to the end of the year and all the sudden Tigerwood Royale and no body can say not to this one
Then the big sales ( ended buying 4 new oils .....!) , I AM NOT DOING A GOOD JOB.
so Ensar can you take it easy ? Because we can't ! ( just kidding), actually the reason I am waiting to say hi to everyone here and enjoy joining nice and good people
And say big thanks to Ensar for the nice savings I made for the oils I was watching for a while.

And finally today is mighty Yunnan 2003 , I love it.

I am with you my friend. He is killing me with the releases. I certainly did not say no to Tigerwood Royale.

My SOTD is Oliang form Rising Phoenix. Very interesting dark, insency, coffee scent. The wood was 'charred' before distilling. Really unique and I am surprised how much I like it.

Ha! I've never done a good job! Yunnan 2003, mighty indeed. Amazing orange blossom/neroli, awesome animalics, more ambergris than other, beautiful ancient woods. Love it.

I went with Port Moresby. Super green, deep but beautiful green, some kinam notes. Oceanic. Super duper nice.

Funny, just as I was typing this earlier to Joyoud, Krugers Black China email comes out.

I have a weakness for Chinese oud. Joyoud wearing Yunnan 2003 had me put a small swipe last night to scent my dreams. Today I did my trifecta, Yunnan 2003, Yunnan Exclusive and Hainan 2005. What a wonderful day.

But now China Sayang?!? I have no doubt it's every bit as good as it sounds.

Welcome good sir, (I will guess) - I look forward to more of your posts! You have keen sensibilities on these matters, that much is immediately apparent to me... No doubt a nose for quality as well..

It sounds like we also share a similar issue - trying to keep money in the bank account but, lo and behold, these amazing oils just keeping coming out - one surprise after another! I think that after January 1st I may need to treat myself to some new treasures..

Yunnan '03 is fantastic - animalic wood perfume, like something out of an elf castle in Lord of the Rings..

Awesome 5MeO. Awesome. Love Lord of the Rings, as well as the Chinese ouds, now if you could just add Arwen or Galadriel to the mix, thanks.

@bhanny there's no doubt you have a heck of a nose, but you jumped right into eroticism with a love for the Chinese oils. They have an aromatic, animalic, pheromonal complexity that is a weakness for me. In the advert for China Sayang Ensar said something to the effect of it not being about a soaking technique. I'm beginning to think that it is something intrinsic to Chinese agarwood that give them their unique scent profile. They have a musk like note mixed with a dried orange rind slight fruitiness that hints towards becoming red, but never quite gets there. The dry down is just as weird, I must admit that as a genre(based on my limited exposure), I haven't made up my mind if I love them or hate them. I'm the type that loves a little weird, Sultan Sufyan with its cosmic blue grey purple is just gorgeous, but these Chinese oils are really something else(they'll probably become my favorite based on how my oud journey has shaped up until now).

I know what you mean about the Chinese ouds PEARL! I have found myself on the line between liking them and not many times - I like them a lot now, though feel that I will also come to enjoy them even more.. Chinese Exclusive was my first such experience - man that is a great oil..

If you like Chinese oils I can highly recommend "Oud Al Shareef II" by Al Shareef Oud, still in stock - this is technically a Malaysian oud, but to me the scent profile is very much Chinese in terms of a version of those animalic orange zest type of notes - this is a very fine oil indeed..
