I have found that vigorous exercise makes the aroma of oud so much more vivid and enjoyable afterward - using oud after a good workout at the gym is always a divine treat..

Today - a Chinese oud feast courtesy of Ensar - started with Yunnan '03, then Chinese Exclusive, and now Chen Xiang Exclusive..
Sounds awesome! As Brian said, please tell us more about the Chen Xiang!

@5MeO Just tested this with a small workout followed by Santal Royale and there is a huge increase in the scent appreciation. Thanks for the tip!

OR1985. Inhaling this is just the most wonderful experience...so much majesty and mystery in that bottomless deep green. Dearest @Ensar is there a comparison to be made between this and Xiang Liao Ling I wonder?

I feel so grateful to be able to smell ouds like this. Wishing you all a good night from London.
Xiang Liao ling is not similar to the OR1985, scent wise more alongside OR#5....I've also heard it compared to maroke 2004. The Xiang is way better than OR5 in my opinion....more ethereal , i prefer its viscosity to the thicker or5. A superb maroke oil..perhaps the best I've smelled so far

Thanks @Taherg that's good to know. I've never tried the marokes so I don't really have a reference point, but the descriptions sound more appealing to me than even something like Tigerwood Royale.

Bushido from JK at The Rising Phoenix. If you ever wanted to imagine you were a Samurai hundreds of years ago, put this on, close your eyes, clear your mind and it will get you there. Deep oud with 100 year old Allspice.

Glad to hear it Shabby! Yes indeed, exercise is a highly reliable way to clear out residual energetic funk and cleanse the olfactory receptors for greater oud enjoyment.. And an added benefit is living longer and healthier which means... ...enjoying super long aged oils when one is 90 years old!

Chen Xiang Exclusive to me shares a good bit in common with Chinese Exclusive, in terms of the scent profile - certainly closer to that than to Yunnan '03 - it is more intense than CE though, a piercing orange zest animalic type of thing - those Chinese style ouds are hard to describe!

--

Today - "Kannan Koh" (EO) - I have always enjoyed this, and have been impressed by its richness and opulent qualities - but last night I had an exquisitely enjoyable experience that I've repeated this morning - there are these tangy fruity/floral type notes in it, but they are so dense and otherworldly smelling - really extraordinary..

My SOTD is EO's beautiful Oud Mustafa 5. Elegant and magnificent. A very complete Oud!
Right on, my brother! Totally agree. If someone came to ask me what real Oud smells like, Mostafa No. 5 would be what I would use to demonstrate. OM 5 is very dear to my heart.

Chen Xiang Exclusive. Bhanny jealous. Not totally true, but you know me and those Chinese. And Kannan Koh is awesome. Wonderful spectrum and silky smooth.

Today for me? The great Sultani. One of a kind and blows my mind each time.

I agree with Taherg 100 percent, Xiang Liao Ling way beter than RN 5 which I love .
But Xiang Liao Ling is a killer , so beautiful and extreme in : earthiness , jungliness , incenseyness and oudiness as Ensar said.
So lucky to have it.

Today my SOTD is Jing Shen Lu and this the first time I tried it , in my opinion its really the best cultivated oil so far .
Its to early for me (5 minutes ago) but I am getting a waves of positive energy from this aroma.

Dear @Shabby, there is zero connection between the two.... Nada. Nil. Zilch.... I still don't get how so many ouddicts see a similarity to Marokes in the OR85.... Maroke oils are distilled from aquilaria filaria, whereas Sumatra oils like OR85 are mostly composed of aquilaria malaccensis (barring the occasional hirta that may be admixed in the pot). To me, the OR85 is much closer to an old school (and I mean really old school) West Malaysian than it can ever be to a Maroke....

Tigerwood 1995 is up today. What an amazing oil. And given how good it is, I almost can't even imagine what Tigerwood Royale will be like.

Oh wow. This means there is still a whole world which is undiscovered for me...and a world whose description is very attractive no less. God willing I will try and sample it soon. :) Thanks for your reply!

I agree - I have OR1985 and several fine Maroke oils - I find no similarity beyond that they are over toward the green jungly side of spectrum rather than the fruity side or the barnyard side.. OR1985 is really unique in general, very distinct aroma that doesn't remind me of any other oil in the collection..

I copied you today my friend. This is what I always envisioned oud would be. Before I first ordered Ensar's sampler. Before I ever realized how diverse and amazing this whole thing is. Awesome stuff.

It is Agar Aura day today. Sutera Ungu on the left and Hirta on the right. Different yet complimentary. Very comforting scents for a cold fall day.

Great couple you had there my friend. As I said earlier, Tigerwood 1995 on my left, and another Malaysian, JK's Kayu Penyulingan. Both nice. But Tigerwood 1995 is hard to beat for its resin content and it is a decade older.

Just finished bath time with the boys, so now my evening swipes begin. Sultan Suleyman on the left, an amazing NG/Malaysian with Ensar's typical beautiful Sultan topnotes, this scent spectrum a bit different with the Malay component added to the New Guinea. Adds a little of that "purplish" element to the amazing blue-green already present with the New Guinea. Drydown = divine as well.

On my right tonight? I wanted an ancient feeling Hindi. Kyara d'Assam. Just an amazingly pristine Hindi, a tad of barn, with mild sweetness.

Dude! You are like the Smithsonian of Oud. Well done!!!

Oud Emerald (EO) - another oud that has grown on me - the medicinal quality has become more apparent with aging - this one now seems like a Maroke oud - most enjoyed!
