Dear Rasoul,

I found OR5 to be quite an interesting oil. Your description always good as always dear Rasoul. Next time you get a chance to swipe it again, see if you can smell a slightly acidic coffee note (think espresso) or something along those lines, I'm no coffee expert. But anyway, smelling that note reminded me of when I was a kid and I'd sip coffee with my family acting all grown-up.
For sure there is roasted coffee beans note but subtle. The most intense note alike can be found is in FO Maroke Noir which I described the oil as roasted coffee beans-stuffed dolma LOL! Have you tried the latter?

You are very correct. The smoky roasted catamelized touch seeet but otherwise savory bacon note is in fact more coffee like. Bingo!

EO jsl after a long hiatus.

The opening as before is yusuf with more green veg, mint, patchouli but not camphorous notes. The mid is where things get exciting and a very strong chlorophyll (sencha/gyokuro tea) note comes out and makes sure the wearer notices it. Along with it, the mid brings bitter notes that help take the fruit. It is objectively speaking a terrific complex and arguably finest organic oil I have tried to date. For whatever reason I don’t crave it the way I do with so many other oils. Fingers crossed I come around and can enjoy this like I used to in the very beginning of my artisanal Oud journey.

Today I was drowning in oceanic natural aromas with three hefty swipes of Ambergris tinctures
(medium grey, goldish brown, and apricot hued light grey).........
and then after a nice hot shower, I swiped some Oud Royale Sri Lanka. I’m picking-up refined ambergris notes together with an addictive creamy metallicness that reverberates from my olfactory sense to my brain. It’s moments like these that show that Oud is a special substance:rolleyes:

Started my day with AA Camellia...
wish I had a full bottle.
Do you pick up any similarities between Camellia and Au Luong (if you’ve tried it)?

Acqua di Gio for me today. Forgot to bring my Suriranka Skin Milk on the plane with me. Got extremely dry skin halfway through the journey. The airline was kind enough to provide moisturizer...... Thought I could handle it for the sake of saving my skin...... Ended up washing it off within 15 minutes.

Oh yes there are similarities.
It’s like Camellia is Au Luong’s brother.
They share an otherworldly.........no, not otherworldly,
more like an unusual oud note/notes. Certainly a result from tweaks, which make them interesting, but by no means stars of any region or genre.
I’d like to have a bottle of each to frag-out the uniqueness because both my samples are now empty:(

This oil is already aged, I wonder what another 10 years will do for it.

This evening.........FO Thai Papua
There is no Papua in this oil.
The focus here is the honey/sugar sweetness, with florals and fruits held at bay.

Russian Adam made some interesting oils during this period (Sam Yan, Full On, Bio Chan Ko, Thai Papua).

Well.......Kanzen this morning.
Not much change since I got it.
Cambodi essential oil indeed. Some Khmer Special K up front with a tiny bit of Camellia in the background.
Burgundy fruit preserves, resiny oudy, woody, a whisper of candy, long lasting pleasureo_O



Noon swipe.....
Oriscent Cambodi Caramel
creamy caramel notes, smoothed by age, quite aromatic, the fruits are medium shade, some fruit, resiny oudy woody like Kanzen, but not as deep. Nice composition:cool:

Hahah stuffed dolma! I haven't had the pleasure of smelling that oil.
 
I’m still just starting out my oud journey, going to give this a shot...

Zazen: words that come to mind - clean, fresh, crisp, a slight menthol note almost. Wakes you up & smells really good! More sharp and intense on the opening, but as it settles and dries, the menthol type note almost disappears. What remains is a nice clean, fresh woody scent that for me conjures an image of freshly chopped wood, not the dark damp mossy type, but light coloured and fresh. Good projection throughout. People friendly, absolutely!

Due to my limited palette, experience and exposure, I don’t think I do the description justice, but hey, gotta start somewhere!
This was an impulsive add on to my purchase, it had just been listed, and I had not seen any reviews. Literally because the description said: “in honor of all the centennial trees that were felled in these legendary jungles over the last several decades.” @Ensar great job on the write up, you know how to hit a nerve with tree lovers! I didn’t really pay attention to the details or notes in the description, soon as I read that, added to the cart. Of course the price played a part as well...if it was twice the price, may have held off for sure.
Trying it out today, and I am glad, actually that is an understatement, that I got it. I had been searching for a oud for the warmer months ahead, seems like it found me instead.

@Ensar - I also hate the feeling of moisturizer on my hands...lol

The aroma is similar to the lingering scent left in my room after lighting some Wu Shuang Ge Hainanese incense:rolleyes:

This oil isn’t telling it’s whole story.......
I think some more aging is in order.
I will have to observe this oil very intently with each swipe to familiarize myself with the inner workings of Bangladesh agarwood.

Later on I revisited Bingo, a Bangladesh oil I got from Russian Adam a while back. The oil originally had a walloping south-end barn, enough to turn heads wherever you go, most of that barn is gone and the perfume aspect is starting to develop, just like Anhaar took a while to develop it. But the scent is short-lived, quickly drying down to a waxy scent:( I wonder if white wood is the culprit, or temperature/length of distillation.

Then I swiped my Chinese musk in Fritzsche Brothers sandalwood oil. Nice smooth musk but not strong. When I originally got the musk it was already dry old stock which means it lost a lot of aroma.

Then I needed some perfume to contrast all the previous barny scents. So out comes Ayu, and relief is on it’s way. My Ayu is now greenish in color, no longer blue, but the scent is still the same.

Oudamberlove, I have noticed that these blue/green colored oils all have that distinct "cola" note to them - Ayu (AA), Darul Aman (AA), Sumatra Q-TiQ (FO), Blue Malayu (FO) - and all these oils turn typical tan/brown oud color over time (at least they do in my little .1ml v-vials).. I have warmed up to that cola note - at first it smelled too odd and almost like it wasn't a natural scent - but over time I have come to really enjoy it - Darul Aman (distilled from the same wood as Ayu) is one of my favorite oils from Taha - it has a denser, more syrupy/medicinal type quality to it, with a more muted "cola" top note than Ayu. Ayu is more of a lighter and headier experience.. Both very fine oils.. I wore Ayu the other day on my way home from work (car is one of my favorite places to apply and enjoy oud), and when I got home I added a bit of Darul Aman to it - really helped me smell the differences.. I prefer the Darul Aman, though I could see why some people would prefer Ayu..
