For me it started with some Central Kalimantan wood from KZ (scent close to kinamantan the oil as well as midori Qi) then I went for a sliver from marvelous old totally saturated heartwood of aceh woo d from Sumatra. Quite different yet similar to both ensar Sumatora 96 and vsi from Russian Adam feel oud. Zesty bitter as hell and intense. The aroma is captured in agar aura oil called: ambrosia. Totally a sobering note Like a jolt to the system. Ice bath....

Before dinner, slightly higher temp on subitism 10.5-11 volts to have some faint smoke. The wood? Combo of light and dark purple florals. Ceram and irian noir. I was beyond myself.

Assalamualaikum brothers,صباحُ الخير, good morning. Yesterday meet one of the longest serving oud wholesaler in Singapore. Told him that I would like to learn and adventure oud and thank God that he accepted my request, though the meeting was 8am Sunday morning. He showed me all the ‘stuffs’ from wild to mix wild and also when someone purchased and mix them to then call it from their own countries ??!! Such unethical practice and I was so shocked. Only a trained nose can indentify the ‘mix’, yeah it’s a sad thing but it’s the truth. Well Long story cut short, we had a wonderful time fire camping while he reminisces the days of his past since late 70’s and I was truly intrigued. A bonus question I asked was, since he has a bundle of incense grade chips, why not distill it to make out of this world dehn al oudh, guees what his reply was, ‘are you nuts!?’ :p The yield will be so Low and the price will sky rocket and who the heck will buy that kind of oil. So I just end the conversation there on the oil part and we continue our campfire and gazing at his Kyara, singking and whatever stash he had. Oud on the plate was, Cambodi/Indo Kinam/Brunei Kinam (he was almost knocked out too), Maroke and all the Borneo’s and India/Bangladesh. Got lost into a psychedelic mode and literally forgot my next appointment. ;)

i love it when that happens. the state of trance, a euphoric feeling, time becomes meaningless...

and yes like all things rare and collectible there will be lots of shady business and unethical practices. as for turning wood of such you mention above to oil, is true, our fellow resident distillers will be the first to tell you that too. it has been done with likes of oud ahmad and others made from largely or entirely sinking batches of wood, but the whole darker, harder, blacker the better narrative simply doesnt hold. there are many lighter shades and other colour resins that to a novice eye looks meh or entry level. yet on the heater the scent is WOWOWOWOWOWOW.

Salam Brother Rasoul, it’s a pity that this happens now and it’s more rampant than ever all because of profit vs yield margin. I was intrigued too with some oils that was claimed superior so I politely asked whether I may try it. Thereon, I should have brought my Aroha Kyaku with me to compare the difference. The proclaimed superior oils was not even close or in the same
League. But negativity aside, I really treasure the time and experience with him and will be coming back again to continue where we had stopped. Learning is a never ending process especially for a beginner like me.

these pieces are hard as hell. Can’t break them. Barely shave them. Need fine tooth saw.

Ceram’s scent is sweet delicate and baby purple sweet iris.

Irian noir is polar opposite. Darkest purple in the spectrum and violet heavy.

Bois d’iris sits in the middle slight left toward that sweet ceram but far spicier meatier and packing that oudy marrow goodness.

And note the voltage: 8.4. At This temp, florals dominates. At 9.5-10.5 the spice and dark green black notes take over

Just had a meeting with a perfumist who is interested to add oudh/delhn Al oud to his boutique.
Burnt all the chips that I had and as usual........ His experienced as he described, heavenly, so unique, psychedelic and as usual lost track of time... 6 hours of oud experienced, almost burnt my showroom down.:D
Oud on the table:

Repeat of ceram bois iris and irian noir wood and achieved same results. Bois iris can withstand higher heat and shows more notes as temps change. Ceram least. Irian In beteeen but closer to bois in terms of new note development.

A fat Tibet incense stick, Sorig - Stress Relief or something along those lines!
yesssss. another incense fan joins the rest of us. keep em coming.

for me, last night was a few minute burn of KZ's north burma wood (i was gifted 1 single stick since i missed out on the opportunity to pick up a pack). cambodi and vietnamese accents are joined by that classic subtle hay, leather and tobacco note of agalocha. most unique. unreal incense. soooo gooood. we need to ask Dr. WS for encore.

I have gone crazy buying incense lately, Japanese, Indian and Tibetan, oh my! Now, "Jinko Yomei" by Gyokushodo, first time burning :)
Would like to try some of KZ's sticks
right on. seijudo is my most favoruite japanese incense house. the kyara enju is their flagship and is insane. has actual musk grains in it. but the fleet of scent, kyara seikan and pine moon are also awesome.

overall wu shuang ge from china is THE ONE for my taste.

KZ stuff are all over the place: some are absolutely terrific and really speak to me while others are no go.
