I made progress on hindi oil last night with a swipe of Ensar Oud Assam 2005.

Least barn hindi to my nose from what I have seen to date. And total integration of aromas in perfect harmony. I see mildly fermented notes of cherry liqueur and molasses laced tobacco, some fine leather and clean barn.

Now, I still don’t crave it and wana rush to wear one, but at least I don’t have to run off and wash my hand or make sure it doesn’t get on my clothes or pillow.

We are making progress!

Hailam LTD. Oil that smells better than the raw wood on gentle heat, thanks to the hand that cooked the brew (my Taiwanese kyara sifu). Absolute Hainan madness. Zero soak, no funk, no rot, no horsey stuff. Pristine sinensis honeyed kinam with orange zest in the background. (I know I overdid it, but you can add more superlatives as you see fit!) :p

I am going to do my best to ignore the above exchanges.

This morning was Chiem Po Chai. A bitter, medicinal, non-tutti frutti cambodi with some serious cohones. The only thing I am struggling to understand is how is it possible for my bottle to be leaking so bad around the dipstick when it has been standing upright for months without ever being tipped. Must have some strong capillary action but either way, I am going to have to solve this problem.

Some oils do that more than others.
It’s called passive fractional distillation.
(I made that up:D)

Today Sultan Abdüs Selam
Spicy Sumba Jungle meets New Guinea Jungle by the ocean. I can’t help but think that the two regions in this oil are Arm Wrestling.

Then a swipe of Assamugo Senkoh.
Nice oil, but I’m not a big fan of the Assam region.
That’s just me. The opening is my favorite part, I get a bright citrus. Probably the Chinese influence.

Au Luong. I thought I lost this bottle. I turned my house upside down looking for it. I searched under the seats in my car. Weeks passed and I instituted an “oud bottles never leave the bedroom” policy. And in fact it turned out that the Au Luong never did leave the bedroom. It was right on top of my dresser in a little tray where I keep the attars and tinctures I’m actively using. So I’m wearing it now but when I sniff my arm, all I can smell is big dummy. No, I’m just joking. It’s quite strong and high-pitched. Floral perfumed gasoline. A tiny trace of wood, or maybe it’s an undercurrent of ORSL. Mostly though, this oud hits me behind the eyeballs- tamarinds and kumquats soaking in acetone. I think Taha would rightly tell me I have more work to do on this one. Which I will do. Assuming I don’t lose it again. Big dummy.

I've bought 2 bottles of it. I use sample vial & v-vial with new toothpicks every time I wear. Au Luong is a very special oud ... to me it is inspiring.
